I was there on that day as an opposition fan.The Blades fans were absolutely brilliant in their appreciation of Cloughie. When you talk about legends of the game Brian Clough gets a seat at the top table.A truly remarkable man who was much loved by folk in the football world and the world in general.

As a Sheffield Utd supporter can I add that Brian Clough was an absolute legend, there will never be anyone like him again. I was there that day, final 10-15 minutes we were 2-0 up and the United fans just started singing for him, "One Brian Clough", "Cloughie for England" etc. When he turned to us and gave us the thumbs up it was magical. He has left a legacy all of his own. RIP Mr Clough.

Met Brian a few years ago on holiday in Majorca we was very pleasant and polite to speed to, and as I’m a Wolves fan we spoke on the league cup final were Wolves won 1-0 and he was very respectful to the Wolves team that played them that day. He spoke to my wife and daughter and three years or so later he was at Wolves on a speaking assignment and he remembered my daughters name from the holiday. I was impressed with him for that. RIP Brian and best wishes to your family.

I met the great man as a 10 year old outside of the city ground one Saturday lunch time. I was with my mum and he pulled up in his Mercedes. He saw my look of astonishment so he came over and gave us both a hug and spent a few minutes with us. The greatest manager ever. Rest in peace Brian and thankyou

I met Cloughie when I was a 13yr old lad just before he got the knee injury which ultimately finished his playing days, he was my idol. I was really sad when he got that injury, I was even more sad when he retired from management but I cried the day he passed away. R.I.P. Mr. Clough.

SEE ARSENAL, this is how you send off a legendary manager who had a bad end to his run 🙌🏻 Forest fans after being RELEGATED to the championship under Brian Clough: One bad season doesn’t make him a bad manager Arsenal fans after coming 6th with no silverware: WE WANT WENGER OUT. Not an Arsenal, Spurs or Forest fan but it disgusts me to see legends of the game being miss treated by their own supporters. YES for *both* of them their time was up but that shouldn’t paper over what legends they have became, their individual and collective achievements and the irreplaceable legacy they left behind.

The reason managers get treated like that nowadays, is because 80% of the premiership fans/supporters haven’t got a clue about football and they’ve never played the fucking game

The same happened with Forest fans too, the fans say in this video that they don't know why others are calling for his head, which is what happened with Wenger too. In another 10-20 years time the videos of wenger leaving will be like this one of clough leaving (with adoring fans and a happy stadium) the critics videos and comment will be lost in history and only found if purposely searching for them.

Great footage. I particularly enjoyed the goodbye from Barry Davies, what an absolute gentleman he was. I still miss Cloughie. I've got my own Cloughie story which I'll share here. 1978 and forest were on that 40 game unbeaten run. They came to Newcastle on a Wednesday night and beat us 2-0. The place was absolutely rammed despite a claimed attendance of around 40,000 (I'm sure the directors fiddled the gate figures back then at most clubs.) We were stood in the old Leazes End at Newcastle and they were giving Cloughie a bit of stick, chanting "Brian Clough is a puff" over and over. It was pretty loud, loud enough for Cloughie to pick up on it. I happened to be looking at the dug out when it was at its height. Out came an arm, with the hand making the two fingered sign towards the Leazes. I'll be generous and say was making a "2-0" gesture. Not how we saw it in the Leazes. We thought he was telling us to fuckoff. Up went the chant "Cloughie for England" over and over at deafening volume, with loads of people round the ground joining in. I'll never forget it, nor will I or anyone else ever forget Brian.

The infamous post-Sheringham and pre-Collymore season; we weren't really good enough that season. But Clough was a miracle-worker. - Won us the League - Won us two European Cups - Won us four League Cups - Almost exclusively kept us in the top 10 He was a legend and my one real sadness is that all our managers since Clough have been unfairly compared to him. There will never be 'another' Clough. He was a genius amongst men. People say that to understand Scholes' genius you need to speak to Xavi or Zidane. Well to understand Clough's genius, go and speak to Mourinho or Guardiola. They didn't grow up with English football and even they recognise his absolute genius. Gone but never forgotten. RIP Brian

I think the Forest directors at the time should have hung their heads in shame at the way they treated Brian Clough and their seeming disregard towards his health. I know working with s functional alcoholic is horrendously hard and the hardest thing for an alcoholic to do is to accept they need help and treatment, but it seemed Forest only cared about what he could win, rather than his welfare. The fans understood though and loved him and perhaps if this was twenty years later, they (the board) would have been more accommodating and perhaps sent him to rehab? It’s clear that he could still inspire the team and was capable of doing the job.

Legend and as an Arsenal fan I salute his genius but as a Gooner comparing this to the Wenger situation is farcical. Cloughie had delivered the impossible for forest but struggled after the board stitched him up selling players and not adequately replacing them. Wenger's downfall has been of his own doing unless he tells us different. He was in full control at Arsenal and chose not to change and not to evolve, it saddens me he's going but it's for the best.
