They have a lot of guitar players, but it really translates well live as it's a hypnotic wave of sound that you can't replicate with one or even two guitars and amps. When I saw them, the sound was really balanced and you could hear everything. It's very cool, there isn't anyone else that sounds like them live.

He needs to stop this. He is in his 50s. It makes me sad when he is mean to Joel which is shown in the Nox Orae set recently. It is not the same as in a recording environment behind closed doors. It is at shows in front of others and very disrespectful to his very accomplished and superb band.

Anton needs to quit touring, it's embarrassing. I'm out of excuses for the guy. Ridiculous thing is, if Anton saw a manager railing on an employee like that he'd probably go nuts about it. He's got zero self-awareness and a tragic alcohol addiction. Isn't gonna end well for the guy. Horrible seeing a band capable of such beauty degenerate into this sort of foul mess, and it is 100% on Anton, nobody else. He cannot handle booze. He becomes a really sick thug and a bully. I won't be going to see them again, which is sad as I've seen some amazing gigs.

He’s not a legend, though. I used to see him fucked up, no money, getting kicked out of shit hole bars in LA. Always had a young person around that you could tell looked up to him, but would eventually wise up. He’s a working musician well into his 50s, more infamous for his behavior than famous for his music. Maybe time will turn him into a legend long after he is gone, but his time on Earth was troubled and violent.

The funny bit is the comments from supercool people originally debating the merits of 4 rhythm guitarists and a dedicated tambourine player. If you go to a BJM show and you don't expect to see this type of thing, then you haven't been paying attention. Seen em' 7 times, seen Anton stop the show in every case. He's not going to suddenly change his stripes. True, this sort of thing may not happen with 'other bands,' and that makes it all the more special - glad they aren't like everybody else, that I have a unique experience when I see BJM.

Man, I saw BJM years ago when Matt Hollywood was still in the band when they were still producing good music, they were great live with loads of energy. Much of their recent output is so dull and substandard.I saw them live more recently almost the whole set was a boring, lifeless dirge.

the logistics of their tour would be tough for a bunch of fitness freaks, let alone these guys. They did something like Norway, then to Denmark, then back to Sweden. Tour manager needs to look at a map. They were completed disorientated. The Grey Goose didn't help

Every one has ego. Why is ego a bad word? It’s who we are, and our way of being in this world. I think his egos beautiful. I also think people are referring to inflated or false pride when they talk about ego. Anton’s passion for music is unparalleled. The guy literally would not exist without his music, and maybe more importantly his ego. He knows his worth and the musics. What’s wrong w him wanting his band to perform up to his standards and vision? Homeboy does lag on the drums too. Could Anton be a bit more gentle about it? Probably. But it’s his fuckin trip, his music. I personally thank God for the man’s work. It’s life or death shit. For real.

Everyone accusing Anton; He said “Pick it up” and offended someone’s little feelings onstage. I can vouch as a guitar player singer for what he then said “or else the songs gonna suck”. He can hear the tempo and knows it needs to be faster. If you’re a professional musician and that offends you then You need to get another job. He’s the boss and if he says play faster you better do it. Don’t flip him off or tell him to grow up. You’re the one who agreed to play in the band. If you can’t keep up go on down the road.

Joel, the guy with the tambourine, has been in and out of the band many times but is one of the most recognizable members (they even put his face on one of their album covers). Anton is known for being very difficult to deal with and has been engaging in professional and personal sabotage for nearly three decades by now but somehow the band has endured.

I watched them play live in São Paulo and the guitarist slapped Newcombe on the face in the middle of the concert bc he was saying some nasty stuff

The fighting/ranting/whatever-you-wanna-call it has become tiresome and fake. It now seems to happen because it is expected to happen. They know half the audience is there to see the band meltdown into an internal fistfight, so they give 'em what they came to see.

Same exact thing in my band... If you off time, out of tune whatever.... we stopping and starting again. Don't see why it's controversy.... It would only get worse as the song goes on...
