The reason I really respect John Grimsmo is that his knives are so precise. His fully machined knife is perfect, and the tolerances are amazing. He makes something that just can't be achieved by hand.

The model that you shown down the main demonstration model is simply amazing. The handle reminds a Dolphin and the blade is just a piece of art. Brian Tighe is without a doubt the best and most creative knife maker out there.

I definitely love Brian's work too. The first time I checked his website out I was shocked at his price points. Very reasonable. Would you say he is sort of underrated in the knife world or is he just doing what he loves for the consumers also love, in a great price? Overall great piece Jim. Blue is my favorite color for knives so this one is for sure knife porn.

I think that pattern is from folding in a cylindrical pattern. The Japanese actually have a similar process, but generally folding of the metal materials create imperfection within the materials and shift the atom around while the heat revert it back. This process eliminate impurities such as sulfur from the iron and yes, it does create a cleaner steel.

Awesome blades Jim! Loving the CNC skill and artistry of Brian Tighe. So enjoying your logic that you don't see John G. as a knife maker...LMAO! I should ask John to send you a Pimped up Norseman for your 15,000 sub give away. LOL P.S. He actually had a little grinder that he just upgraded to a larger one for softening/champing the edges mostly because it is faster, but don't tell anyone.
@JimSkeltonKnives11 жыл бұрын
I have actually considered finding someone with a Norseman for a Gust Blade soon. I am actually getting more and more curious. And now hearing he is going to start using a grinder excites me, I can't wait to see what he ends up going.
@sickjohnson11 жыл бұрын
Jim Skelton Well you do have a point, he is coming at it from the other direction in a way. There are whispers of an integral frame in the future, I can't wait for that. You will probably run into him and his brother at one of the next Knife shows if someone doesn't send you a Norseman first. P.S. Is the deposit on the little red Corvette, because that would be a great B-day gift! ;)

How do you sharpen your knives They are all so expensive and you Carry and use them so I was wondering how you keep them sharp On a cheap production knife it would be easy to sharpen yourself but with fancy steels and blade shapes it would be a lot harder.
@JimSkeltonKnives11 жыл бұрын
I'm fortunate to have friends with vastly more experience than me with sharpening. I don't trust myself not to screw up a $1000+ blade, so I leave it to the pros :-) I'll strop, but when a new edge needs to go on....

Knives can be made in different ways, someone who makes it with insane computer and CNC skills is no less of a knifemaker than someone who uses a grinder to make a blade. An argument can be made for the CNC guy being more skilled than your average custom knife maker with a grinder.
@VeritasNous11 жыл бұрын
I agree. One can imagine the same "knifemaker" argument going on when people started using powered grinders rather than files, pedal-powered grinding wheels, and general hand finishing. A similarly silly argument currently goes on in the bladesmith (forged blade) vs knifemaker (pure stock removal) arena. Of course guys like Grimsmo are knifemakers, they just substituted one skillset for another. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be justifiably more impressed by guys like Wilson who are able to obtain such unbelievable precision without ever letting a computer touch their work. Computers are supposed to be beating us on these things.

Mr. Tighe's knives are a little too fantasy for me personally but that being said he was a super guy to meet and the quality of what he does was outstanding from what I saw. On top of that, I agree... his prices versus the some of the other makers seems like a ridiculous bargin.
@WillMoon11 жыл бұрын
I have no idea how he charges as little as he does, I've had a lot of Tighes and every one of them was perfection, the designs are stellar, easy to carry, ergonomic, quick to open and close and built with tight, consistant tolerances. Brian really thinks his knives through in the way the end user will integrate them into their carry routine, which is what's so impressive about his work; he has a lot of designs and they all make fantastic carry knives.

+Dylan Hardin A car is machine designed to get you from point A to point B; why do people get body-kits, paint-jobs and customise their car down to the finest point? You're watching at a custom-knife review channel and I think you're missing the point. These high-end custom products separate themselves on the market by their detailed aesthetics and exclusivity.
@JimSkeltonKnives9 жыл бұрын
+Dylan Hardin Why would you feel the need to "remind me" of something that I clearly know well? So you're saying things can't be made nicely just because they have a purpose? I guess the several dozen purely "tool knives" I've posted don't show you that I buy across a diverse selection of styles?

Galiant the Paladin A winky-face or subtle sarcasm would hint that he's joking. There's nothing indicating he's joking while there is clear evidence he's arguing a point of view. Not only that, but he's subtly demeaning the uploader in saying, "sorry," (implying that he's wrong) and "I need to remind you,". Odds are he's a narcissist; certainly not succeeding in the humor department otherwise.
