Because Gasseflstein had like 3 of the songs already finished on his own, as a music producer. It's what makes the industry move fast. They have music stashed on their computers like if it's their proof of weddings done in their wedding catalog to show their potential costumers. You have to stay prepared as a producer, wether its showing your catalog to an "Artist" or creating a song from scratch for the artist on the spot. Weeknd didn't produce any of these instrumentals lol. These are all Gasseflstein's signature sample pack drums, synth sound design, and way of producing for years. Weeknd just had every part of the song structured perfectly tailored to his vocals. He just felt the emotion of the music and poured his heart out on these masterpieces of Gesaffelstein. Great Music Producer , great mixing engineer, and Great singer, of course. And together you got this great album. It's never your favorite "artist" making everything lmao

Your reaction at 5:37 is all of us!!! You need to watch his music videos in their release order cause he always completes the album story with the music videos, especially After Hours. I like to know what you think of the story he is trying to tell. Keep it up; you're doing fantastic! this ep literally does break you if going thru a breakup. it's such raw emotion. i was never there is one of the most sadly crafted vocal parts. one of the greatest components in his discography. severely underrated, under-discussed release. i had a short-lived phase of getting high, just weed, and i was listening to this and the sadness was not only magnified but it was like, handed to me and put in my heart. i felt it so deeply. you can hear in his voice, he's really singing what he's feeling and feeling what he's singing. it's sincere. it's gessaffelstein producing and he does use that classic 90's westcoast synth but much louder than traditionally. hear his track hellifornia for reference, which is a sore thumb on the album it's from. but yeah, more or less the same sound. it's not weird that you want to give him a hug and make sure he's okay 😂 it's really that dark and sad.

It’s not weird that it dropped between starboy and after hours. This is the precursor to After Hours. That led him to spiral back into his old ways, addictions, and the vulnerability that came to be the masterpiece of After Hours. This is the prequel to the trilogy we are in now.
