We just got back from a Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand vacation in January 2024. One of the reasons we traveled there was because of the affordability. Even though it was budget friendly we still thought it was probably the best vacation we have ever been on. We could enjoy eating at a nice restaurant and not be concerned about the cost. At many of our travel destinations, like you, we sometimes would fix our own meal at our apartment instead of going to an expensive restaurant. We spent a month there and always ate at a restaurant. . We visited Da Nang and Chiang Mai and loved them both. Probably the highlight of our vacation was a visit to an elephant resort about an hour away from Chiang Mia. The incredible interaction we had with the elephants was probably our most memorable traveling experience ever!!! The bamboo raft ride was another fun activity at the resort. The staff was very accommodating, I had left my passport at the resort and they went above and beyond to make sure it was returned to me after we had left to relocate in Chiang Mia. In one of the cities, in SE Asia, I was blown away when we only had to pay 68 cents for a taxi ride to a place that was to far away to walk too.

Another traveling couple - Chad and Claire stayed at an elephant resort near Chang Mai, too...really want to do that....do you have the name of the one where you stayed? Planning a trip to Thailand for next year....was winter a good time to visit? Think we'll add Vietnam, too, for sure!
@markroylance64868 ай бұрын
The elephant resort we stayed at was the Tawan Riverside Elephant Resort. It cost only $35 for a cabin, but the elephant experiences were more than I expected. Even though we had to pay for experiences, we thought it was well worth it. The bamboo raft ride was a bargain. One of the experiences was with an elephant in the river that would lay down in the water then we would smear it with mud and then wash it off by throwing buckets of water on it. But what was really special was when we had a photo shoot, with my wife and I together and individually, in which we would sit on the elephants front leg. It would then hug us with it's trunk, kiss us with it's trunk and then playfully blow water on us. You have to visit this resort.

I absolutely love this video! I have watched enough KZbin travel videos to be familiar with most of these places. As a result, I wholeheartedly agree with your list. I know that people love Chang Mai. With regard to Da Nang, I have a friend that is a world traveler. He absolutely raved about Da Nang. Somehow, Vietnam was not really on my radar screen. However, Da Nang was number one on your video. This really opens my eyes to this place. My friend also said the people are very, very nice! Well done. Thank you for all that you do. I totally agree with the Algarve being affordable! I stayed in Olhão, right next to Faro last April. I had a fantastic studio rental that cost me $42 US a night. The hosts were amazing and even picked me up from the bus when I arrived, then took me on a tour of the city. As an American I can say I had no idea I'd ever get that kind of hospitality! It was walkable for me, though it was a bit over a mile to get to Aldi, a little further to the Mercado and boat dock. I took a ferry for about 5 euro round trip to Ilha do Farol with is a gorgeous little island and stunning beach!

Another outstanding video! I really appreciated this one particularly. I’m always looking at affordable places to visit, as we are budget travelers, too. Most of the videos I watch about ‘affordable’ places don’t actually work out to be affordable at all. The biggest issue is usually housing. We use primarily Airbnb and they don’t reflect the cost of living in the areas they’re in. It’s so frustrating because that’s the majority of the travel budget. We generally try to stay at $700 a month or less which is challenging, for sure. We are leaving tonight to fly to Tirana, Albania. We’re so very excited to finally be going there! I have been dreaming of visiting Albania ever since I watched your videos on it. We hope to stay for a year there, exploring Albania and the nearby countries during that year. Brian, I was laughing so hard watching you back pedal on your comment about comparing the Turkish food to Carrie’s cooking. 😂🤣😂🤣 I just wanted to let you know that Paraguay is an extremely affordable country, too. We have been here since December 28th and have really enjoyed it. We spent the least amount of money on an Uber last night. Wondering if I beat your best price? My Uber cost $1.50…..and that included a tip! 😮😮😮 As always, thanks for the hard work you put into making these wonderful videos! Safe travels.
@BrianandCarrie9 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, housing costs seem to be going up. $700 may be possible in SE Asia, South America, and part of the Balkans, like Albania but getting more and more difficult to find. We are hoping to get to Argentina, Paraguay, and Chile next year. As always thank you for watching!! Enjoy Albania and safe travels! Cheers!!🍻

We have been following you now for over a year and we love the content and presentation of your videos. We have learned so much from you. We enjoyed the area close to the Dam Hotel. We describe the area that we stayed in in the Antalya video along with a link to the Airbnb. However, the laws have changed for Airbnb in Turkey. The one that we stayed in is now only available for a minimum of 90 days. You can still get "aparthotel" for short-term stays. Thank you for watching and safe travels!! Cheers!!🍻

Your videos and now you website have been super helpful as we plan to begin full time travel in 2024! Thank you for all the useful information and easy to enjoy video entertainment. We are actually planning to visit 2 of your recommended destinations, Kotor and Krakow. Wondering if you can add the best times to travel to these destinations from your experience. We priced accommodations in Albania for the early fall and they were much higher than what you were able to get. Still getting the hang of this process and I'm sure we will learn as we go! Thanks so much and cheers to 2024 travel!

The best time of year for good weather is late spring and summer. The prices will be higher that time of year, unfortunately. We were there in late January to late Feb. 2021 and prices have gone up since then. Thank you for watching and commenting on the channel!! Safe travels! Cheers!!🍻

Another awesome video guys. I had predicted most of your pics, but had included Bulgaria too. Is Bulgaria on your 2024 list?
@BrianandCarrie9 ай бұрын
Not this year, hopefully in 2025 😊

Brian just mentioned his haircut, which is awesome. Carrie, what do you do for your hair when you're on the road - is it easy to find a place to do a color, cut and/or style? Thanks!!
@BrianandCarrie8 ай бұрын
I typically do my own. But, I will say there is never a lack of places to get your hair done. We see salons and barbers everywhere. Pricing is kinda all over the board, but from I've seen very affordable.

Folks- thanks very much for this video. We are dying to make the part-time expat jump, though we are bound here by our 13-year-old furry family member. Until she goes to that big "farm upstate," we are limited to the planning stage, and the occasional 9-day trip to Europe. This helps us add to our list of places that we want to explore. (The "in- Schengen" and "Out-of-Shengen" info is particularly helpful, along with the prices of course) Thanks again!
@BrianandCarrie6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for watching, Brian! Take care of that furry friend! The part-time expat jump can wait a few more years! 😃

Being Europeans for us Malta, that unique place in the Mediterranean sea is the favorite holiday spot with its beautiful islands, old towns and villages, churches and cathedrals, intriguing medieval history and mythical atmosphere. Then to feel like the hero and heroine of a 19th century classical novel from the Romanticism we love to spend time in some real gems of the Atlantic ocean, the picturesque islands of Madeira, and the Azores, and also Cape Verde, as an alternative option to the Canary Islands.

Hey guys I appreciated this video very much and agree with the list I've been to most of them.. I thought you guys were through with Airbnb? Anyways great advice I'm more of a slow traveler but always enjoy your videos.. keep doing well stay safe stay healthy keep smiling.😊
@BrianandCarrie9 ай бұрын
We most always use Airbnb. We have done a couple of videos about why we continue to use the platform. There are a couple of other KZbin videos out there on why some have chosen not to. For use, it is the most convenient with the most options. Thank you for watching our channel!! Cheers!!🍻

A little different topic but do you slow travel with backpacks, carryons or some other size luggage? Just curious as we start our travels. I enjoy your videos.
@BrianandCarrie9 ай бұрын
We use the Away larger carry-on and love them. The size is perfect, but you will be over on weight restrictions on budget airlines. However, we have only been weighed one time. Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!🍻 PS: We have no affiliation with Away luggage, we just like ours. 😃

I love your tips. It was thanks to you that my boyfriend and I got to know Krakow and Brasov. You have very good taste. I'm also in love with Salzburg and Antalya ❤

Thank you 😊. So happy you enjoyed those areas as well. LOVE Salzburg ❤️

I have only been to one of these locations; the Algarve. I would return. All the other places I note with interest so that I can have them added to the bucket list. You do very well in finding european gems that are outside the Schengen zone. For sure Southeast Asia will be a place to spend some time and save some money while enjoying beaches and food. As always thanks guys.

My husband and I are getting ready to slow travel, and plan to start in Asia in January of 2025. Thank you for your videos and information! We have learned so much from you guys! I've started looking at the long-haul flights to get there. Do you guys usually book one-way at a time? Or do you go ahead and book round-trip for leaving and returning to U.S. Thanks!!
@BrianandCarrie8 ай бұрын
We usually book one way with some layovers. We will be doing a video soon on just how we book flights. Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!🍻

Algarve! Definitely want to visit in 2024. Is $950 the price for 1 month accommodation for two people? I need to find this place!
@BrianandCarrie9 ай бұрын
Yes, that is for a couple. Plenty of options in that price range. Cheers!!

Hello…what is this shaggen (spelling probably wrong😂) that you keep talking about. Thank you for your great video and time you put into sharing your experience 🙏
@BrianandCarrie7 ай бұрын
The Schengen is 30 European nations. Those of us that don't live within those nations only have 90 days in a 180 day window to explore then we have to leave. 😔

Loved your video as always. Quick question: Some of the places you visited seemed to be right AFTER COVID when costs were pretty low foor travel and accommodations. Have you noticed if costs have increased in those top ten places you recommended? We to went to the Algarve in and around the time I think you guys were there. We just came back the other day but as we were planning thisb trip costs seemed to have increased soewhat. Just wondering if you have seen that as well? Thanks again for all your great advice and input. I used you guys again in our last video about packing tips. LOL

Seems like we pack better each time we leave!! 😂

I agree that Krakow and Algarve are good value to fly to and to stay in. I have stayed in Becici in Montenegro that was walking distance of Budva that is also good value. Krakow is my favourite from this list. Have been there a few times. Not been to the other places but will definitely check some of them out
@BrianandCarrie9 ай бұрын
Budva, Kotore and the surrounding area are really nice, and you can get a lot for the money for sure.

Love you guys and all your interesting and informative, & sometimes funny travel videos. However, a good friend living in Thailand with his wife did feel you were a little optimistic with the costs for both Chiang Mai and Ko Samui. He said certainly there's rentals that cheap and inexpensive meals there, but they won't be even middle of the road, or in the greatest part of town. Even in Thailand, while very affordable, you still do pay for what you get. And unfortunately, we poor Canadians have a currency that's not so strong. :( Do appreciate all the time and effort you put into your youtube presentations...they're always so entertaining well done! Thanks again.

The prices that we quoted are accurate. Good accommodations in Fisherman Village in Ko Samui and Nimman Dist. in Chang Mai. Very nice areas to stay in. We were very satisfied with both locations at a great price.
