What a great way to start 2025! I've been to all of the places you mentioned, except Antarctica. You'll have a great time. South America is a wonderful place to explore. Chile is one of my favorite countries with so many diverse landscapes. If I may as a Spanish speaker, I'd like to provide you with the correct way to pronounce Iguazú, looking at it by syllable. The first syllable, "i", is pronounced like "ee" in weed. For the second syllable, "gua", think of how you pronounce the "gua" in the word guacamole. It's pronounced the same in Iguazú...like "gwah". And two things for the last syllable: the "z" in Spanish is never pronounced like the "z" in zebra. It's always pronounced like the "s" in sing. Also, there is an accent over the last syllable, meaning it gets the stress. So the final syllable would be pronounced like "SOO". Putting it all together, Iguazú is pronounced "ee-gwah-SOO". Looking forward to seeing your videos! Happy 2025!

Thanks for the pronunciation tip, we'll try to get it right! 😁 The more we research Chile the more excited we get! We don't believe we will run out of things for the next 3 months! Thanks again and Merry Christmas, Jim, we appreciate all your support! 😊

Great plans! You were the reason Karen and I decided to try Slow Travel for FOUR months in the Off season in Southern Europe - Albufeira, Alicante, Antalya, Istanbul, Split, Lisbon! We are nearing the end of our 5 weeks in the Algarve....LOVING it here! Loule is our favorite town so far, then Sagres. Still to see Lagos next week and Portimao. We've done Tavira, Albufeira, Silves, Sagres, Loule. We found we needed a small car to help get around. THANK YOU for introducing us to Slow Travel!!!

If you visit Cusco, I suggest heading straight from Cusco Airport to Ollantaytambo and staying there for at least three days to acclimate to the high altitude. From Ollantaytambo, you can take a day trip to Machu Picchu. Ollantaytambo is a charming village worth exploring. Once you are done in Ollantaytambo, travel to Cusco by car, stopping along the way to visit Moray, Maras, Chinchero, and Pisac. I recommend arranging a taxi through Taxidatum for both the transfer from Cusco Airport to Ollantaytambo and the return trip to Cusco. For the train to Machu Picchu from Ollantaytambo, make sure to book in advance after purchasing your Machu Picchu ticket from the official website. Avoid third-party websites for bookings.

You could spend 3 months in Chile easily. The entire country (each region) is connected by express bus. They are affordable and comfortable. I recommend putting San Pedro de Atacama on your list and don't forget the wineries near Santiago. Chile has everything, beaches, volcanoes, mountains, unique towns etc. I hope you love it! I know I did.

One other magical place I forgot to mention is the Amazon. If you can include a side trip cruising down the Amazon or a stay in the jungle, it is a must do. The river people and children are so beautiful. We took disposable, instamatic cameras and it was the first time the children had seen themselves. We also visited with a Shaman while in the jungle. It was an experience I will never forget. Have fun & happy almost New Year of fabulous travels!

To illustrate the joy you have in life, you could include a video clip or still shot of other daily activities. Like enjoying that super kitchen, the huge table, comfy couch or delightful pool in your last place. A dramatic reenactment of a nap! To show folks the joy of simple things while traveling.

Have you thought of Cuenca Ecuador? It’s up in the beautiful Andes Mountains. The weather is temperate with almost no rain. Stunning architecture. Lots to see and do. We stayed the winter at Apartemenos Otorango. Cute apartments. Budget friendly. Maid service. On the Tomabamba River. Just a short walk into town. Drop off laundry service nearby. Markets. Grocery store a $2US taxi ride home. The owners are great and will arrange tours for you if you like but there is a ton of stuff to see and do in town. Don’t miss the zoo!! It’s more of an animal rescue. But take a taxi to it. It’s up on a mountain but there’s plenty of walking inside the zoo. Good wifi. Airport and bus station in town. And it is very safe. The problems in Ecuador are down on the beaches. 5 or 6 hours away.

We spent 9 weeks in Buenos Aires December 2023 and January 2025.Yhe neighborhoods of Palermo, Recoleta and Puerto Madero are a must ...I think you guys would also really enjoy taking the commuter train to tigre and take a boat tour of the delta so worth it. Also if you want another easy stamp in the passport take the ferry from BA to Colina de Sacramento in Uruguay it is beautiful. We spent 5 weeks in Mendoza and it is beautiful the wineries are spectacular with their snow caped mountain views .We did a self guided tour by team then had a local driver to take us to our desired destinations. Also spend time in Parque San Martin it's wonderful. Also the parks in BA are amazing, the Japanese garden, Eco Parque also try to visit the polo grounds and the racetrack both great...Enjoy cheers !!!

Suggestions for the other three videos- 1- location activities, 2- food and transportation tips and 3) best neighborhoods to stay in and close by day trips. I want to see the reality of staying in a place for a month rather than you moving quickly bc you think we need more content. Thanks for all your videos!

I have been following you since the beginning. My husband and I live overseas and travel around a lot. However, once he retires this Spring we plan to slow travel around the world. We’ve been planning this for about 8 years and the time has finally arrived. I have loved watching you guys and have been living vicariously through you. I get a lot of value from your videos and think you both balance each other well. I’ve taken a lot of your tips which has made our travels easier- for instance we went on the Mon Cheri cruise to see Halong Bay & loved it! Since we live in Japan currently we have visited Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea and Taiwan soon. The videos you’ve made on some of these places has made it fun to get a preview and helped to set our expectations. I think your videos have come along way and I enjoy being along for the ride on your adventures. Funny thing is this summer we will be going to Argentina and I will be looking forward to your videos of Buenos Aires and around. Sad because I was hoping to have a meet up with you but I hope eventually our paths will cross.

You inspired me to become a slow traveler after I retired last Marchand it has been an incredible experience so far. Thank you! I wasrecently in Argentina and it was my favorite country in South America so far. Buenos Aires has the look and feel of a European city . I stay in Recoleta where the architecture is like Paris. The people are friendly very welcoming. The food, especially if you like meat, was the best beef I have ever had (asado). Good to try: Dulce de leche, Choripán, empanadas, perhaps the best pizza in the world and of course meat. You’ll love it! Enjoy and have fun!

Hey guys, exciting year ahead! Can't wait to see what you discover in Argentina & Chile. For your open 3-month window in late spring/early summer, have you considered Northern Europe? Scandinavian countries are obviously pretty expensive, but you could instead visit the much more affordable Baltic states (we absolutely LOVE that region) - hopefully, towards the end of that window when the weather is nicer and you get those never ending hours of daylight. You could also compliment Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania with a bit of time in Poland, Slovakia and/or Northern Germany at the start of those three months. Merry Christmas to you, and all the best wishes for 2025!

Great video, look forward to seeing your travels. I do have to applaud you both on the ‘enough’ money concept. Hey guys. Enjoyed your 2025 plans. One suggestion while in South America I have is Colombia. My wife and I stayed in Bogota near Parque 93. Highly recommend this area as it was beautiful and very central as well as safe. Not saying we experienced any area not being safe while in Colombia whenever we went but this area was awesome. Family friendly and the central park, Parque 93, was great. Many restaurants and bars and other places to visit. We found Taxi rides are easy and inexpensive also. We also then flew to Cartagena for a few days and stayed in the Centro. Again, across the main central park and was also beautiful. This is a gorgeous place to visit and very historical and beautiful. The main thing I must warn you about is that it is very touristy and we did not enjoy that. I suggest going out a bit from the touristy areas and definitely do some excursions, if you can, outside of the main areas to really enjoy the burbs and the countryside. Well, I hope this helps and keep on going!! Cheers! 🍻

Enjoyed your look ahead to 2025. If I may put in my two cents, I would recommend that you try to include the town of Bariloche, Argentina to your list. This is a lakeside town with wonderful lake and mountain views. We are blessed to live on the ocean and enjoy wonderful sunrise scenes. But the sunrise in Bariloche is among the best we have ever witnessed. As for Chile, we found that country to be disappointing. Perhaps your experience will be different. We did very much enjoy Argentina and Buenes Ares is a complex and layered experience looking to us like a Parisian little sister. Having said that, We loved Peru. The authenticity of the people and their strong grip on their culture and heritage is inspiring. While many South American countries rush to modernity and even futuristic changes, Peru feels different. Not so much stuck in the past as honoring it and sticking o its roots. For us, It was the best of South America.

We just finished six months slow travel through South America. While in Argentina, Buenos Aires is a must (especially for this city guy), but Mendoza and Cordoba are wonderful smaller cities that would be ideal for workcation. Patagonia is a dream trip, but keep in mind the far away location makes living there expensive. In Peru, all the Inca cities are exquisite. But Arequipa would be an ideal place to settle down for awhile. I love Cuzco and Machu Picchu, but they are tourist delights, less a workcation. And dont miss the falls! Whatever you decide, you will love it.

As recently retired travelers we have enjoyed and valued your channel for several years. Thank you. On your Peru plans I have been to Machu and would suggest you consider spending a night or 2 in Ollantaytambo on the way to Machu. It has some impressive ruins right in town and a good choice of accommodations and restaurants. It's a lived in local vibe occupied historical village that I enjoyed nearly as much as Machu. It's also the start of the best train section to Aguas Calientes and Machu. We also spontaneously hired a driver there for cheap who took us to the major sites like Moray and the Salt Mines which are nearby.

I forgot to mention Santiago in my previous post. We spent two weeks there while in Chile for two months. I loved it, though there are fewer “things to do” compared to Buenos Aires-but for slow travel that suited me. Are you traveling by bus from Mendoza? I don’t remember if you mentioned your mode of transportation. The ride through the Andes was one of my favorite bus rides ever! While in the Capitol, perhaps do a day or overnight trip to Valparaiso (gorgeous). SkyCostanera was a phenomenal panorama. The Plaza de Armas is fun. Consider the funicular to a great view. We stayed in Barrio Bellavista, the “bohemian” neighborhood. It’s a lot of fun. Even if you don’t stay there, check it out for the restaurants and plentiful places for Brian to have a beer.

We'll be doing London (briefly), Portugal, Spain, and Greece for the first part of 2025 and then we'll see. Merry Christmas to you both and enjoy your time with family.

We spent a few months last year in Argentina. Trust me when I say don't skip Corte Comedor for a great steak dinner. Recommended by a local and much better than the touristy, famous places that we also tried (like Don Julio). Fogon was the best steak of my life, but you pay for it! We moved B.A. Mendoza, not so much. Patagonia is an absolute DON'T SKIP! As far as Peru, we spent 2 months there last year as well. Mira Flores is the place to stay in Lima. Lima is a chaotic big city, so be prepared for that. Cusco is also a great place. Spend at least a couple days there. M.P. is incredible. If you are considering Brazil at all, look into Jericoacoara. Super fun beach town and very safe for Brazilian standards (it's a town in the middle of a national park and far from dangerous cities).

Good choices for winter 2025. I made a long trek around that continent last year at this time, including an expedition cruise to Antarctica. The Galapagos is also an incredible addition to long term South American travel if you’re interested in unique flora and fauna. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have. 🙋‍♀️💜

I did a 19-day Antarctica expedition cruise, and it was expensive. My tip is to go to Ushaia, where they offer 50% off leaving the next day or week. For full-time travelers, this is the best way. For Peru, look at Peru Hop. I'm doing this hop on/hop off bus from Lima to Cusco in Sept/Oct. Then spending time in the Sacred Valley and, of course, Machu Picchu.

Merry Christmas Brian & Carrie. I love that you are venturing to South America. Try and include the Galapagos and some time in Ecuador. I would definitely include Patagonia before or after you do Antarctica. It is so breathtakingly beautiful. If you can enjoy some Carnival in Rio from late February to early March, I think this trip is complete. Safe travels and I am heading back to Turkey in 2025 and will include Cappadocia and Antalya... your video inspired me to spend extra time in Antalya. Safe travels and congratulations on the upcoming Greek wedding. I am getting a Mamma Mia vibe here. 👩‍❤‍👨

We have done all the places in South America you are planning to go. Our travel budget is a little bigger than yours, so most of them have been guided tours. 2017 Machu Pichu and the Galapagos Islands. 2023 we did the expedition cruise to Antarctica and added on Iguassu falls. We got a 2 for 1 deal but it was still $12000. Make sure you do the boat ride at the falls. This year we did the cruise from BA to Santiago not going to Antarctica. Got a deal on that when we accepted to change to our cabin from a balcony to inside, got all of our cruise fare back. We then took a tour from Santiago to Easter Island and back. Then we toured Patagonia in Chile and Argentina. Valparaiso is a good day tour from Santiago for the street art. Bariloche in great area to visit in Argentina.

My favorite Pizzaria in Buenos Aires is right by the Retiro Train Station across from the Sheraton and the clock tower called " La Torre" (the tower) sit order a bottle of Malbec wine or Quilmes Beer and a white pizza with olives and people watch. The same waiters have been there for years. Also a wonderful parilla restaurant in the San Telmo area called Desnivel (Unlevel) great for grilled meats etc and again a bottle of Malbec called "San Telmo" like the Area, great local place. The Iguazu (E-gua-zoo) Falls make Niagra Falls look like a trickle, the film " The Mission" with Jeremy Irons/Robert Duvall was filmed there years ago with a terrific music soundtrack. Don't forget to have alfajores (cookies with dulce de leche filling) with your coffee, Havana is the major brand. In Santiago Chile take the funicular up to the Zoo....Buen Viaje!

If you opt for a boat ride into Iguaçu, the captain of the boat will often steer the boat directly under one of the smaller waterfalls. It's fun but brace yourself - lotta force! Also, there's a bird zoo(?) called Parque das Aves near the falls that was great! Has all the exotic birds from the area.

In Spanish it is spelled: Iguazú. That little diacritic over the U means that the STRESS is over the U. Unlike English or French, Spanish has only one way to pronounce things, so without any doubt, in Spanish it is ee-goo-ah-zoo (stress in Zoo). :) I am a native speaker of Spanish. I will say, once you get over there, you will probably learn how the native people from the region pronounce it. It is possible that in the native Guarani language, it would be pronounced Iguazu (same as above but with the stress on the middle or first syllable). :) It looks like your 2025 will be exciting! Can't wait for your videos!!! Machu Pichu is in my bucket list :)

Looks like you guys might be coming through Peru before we leave for Argentina, would be nice to meet up with you guys if timing is right. For my two cents on your Cusco/Machu Picchu visit, I would recommend a minimum of 1 week in the area, there is plenty to see and that will allow you to hit some less visited locations like Pikillacta. You do not really need three days in Ollantaytambo to acclimate as indicated in another comment, Ollantaytambo is about 9,200 feet and Machu Picchu is lower at roughly 8,000 feet, much lower than the roughly 11,300 feet in Cusco. I do agree that Ollantaytambo bakes a good base for a few days, in general I would arrive in Cusco and get a transfer to Ollantaytambo on day one, you can book in advance or just negotiate with drivers outside of the terminal. Check into your accommodation in Ollantaytambo, explore and then spend the second day visiting the archeological site, visit the Salineras de Mara, and get a driver to take you down the road to the 'Sacred Valley Brewing Co.' (near Pachar). On day three plan your visit to Machu Picchu (I would recommend an overnight visit, but a one day visit is possible), if doing an overnight visit, get a morning train back to Ollantaytambo and explore a bit there. On day 5 you can visit Tipon and/or Pikillacta, and the Inkary Museum (time permitting make a stop in Pisac), then the morning of day 6 check out of Ollantaytambo and transfer to Cusco, stopping in Chinchero on the way, spend the remaining time exploring Cusco center and/or Saqsaywaman. Day 7 fly back to Lima and spend some time there or travel on. One could easily add a few more days in Cusco and not run out of things to see, the Church of San Pedro in Andahuaylillas (referred to as the Sistine Chapel of the Americas) is well worth a visit, and you can head NW of Cusco and visit Zurite and Killarumiyoq, maybe stopping in Huarocondo for the towns famous lechon. I am sure you guys will enjoy your time in Peru and if you have any questions I can answer let me know. Hope to be able to meet you guys in Lima.

Hey, look at the Seas down below the horn or South America. There's basically an oval shape (large) of the seas there that are the worst in the world. Make sure that your "around the horn" is pretty close to the shore, and then also make sure the route to Antarctica avoids that piece of water as much as possible. The most difficult spots are Cape Horn and the Drake Passage. Check and see if the reason you got such a good deal is because it might be a rough ride. Love your channel and not wanting to burst any balloons. Really hope it is amazing. Would love to go to Antarctica ... and want you to know ahead of time, in case you had not been aware of that.

Thankfully the time of year we are going to Antarctica is the best time to go and typically the best crossing time ☺. Unfortunately, this is also unpredictable, so you just have to go in prepared with sea sickness meds. Happy Holidays!
