[Update] Follow up video on settings: • Apple Vision Pro: Work...
The big question: is the Apple Vision Pro worth it for remote work?
How much is the Apple Vision Pro? It starts at $3,499. That's expensive, yet still more affordable than the Apple Pro Display XDR, which starts at $4,999.

It's obvious that Apple should have prioritized productivity as a critical feature of the Vision Pro from day one, enabling a multi-screen workflow. For example, users should be able to open multiple apps and windows within those apps on the main desktop view, as the leading computing is done wirelessly. I hope that a firmware update, Mac software update, or the next iteration of the Vision Pro will provide such a feature-rich experience. Imagine opening Final Cut Pro with the monitor on one side and all the editing tools on the other, so there's no need to switch back and forth between the two workflows. It would be even better to move some favorite tools in spatial space in front of the video as we make minute adjustments.

From what I have heard, it has something to do with the VP's rendering ability. They prioritised the display's clarity, which is rendered in VP rather than on the Mac, as is the case with Airplay. I am surprised they didn't dedicate a chip for this so as to boost performance, but I suspect this will be a significant feature of series 2. Unfortunately, Apple loves to gimp its products to elongate their release timelines... You also have to consider that if Apple decided to focus on screen sharing, it could have been misunderstood as a glorified monitor and not a new kind of 'spatial computing'. In that sense, they have bolstered themselves from that. However, unless Apple is able to bring the performance of a Mac to the VP, it is going to be limited to iPad-like capabilities which sucks.

If Microsoft Office , Logic pro and Final Cut Pro and whatever else you need came as native apps to Apple Vision Pro, you could place them as separate windows anywhere, you don’t have to be restricted to the MacBook screen. Maybe even a Mac may not eventually be necessary, as long as you have an Apple ID and an iPhone. Then you could be anywhere, even out of town or another country, you could continue your work.

Thank you for this demonstration. It was very well done. What I have been looking to see is how I can zoom in and out. I am legally blind and use the Zoom feature on my iMac and MacBook. I really would like to see if/how the Zoom feature can help me read text within the windows and also text on a wall in the room or signage such as the name on a store or the text on a street sign. Please consider demonstrating this feature if it exists on the Apple Vision Pro. On iMac and MacBook, the Zoom feature I use can be turned on as follows: Settings >> Accessibility >> Zoom >> Toggle On "Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom" >> Leave "Modifier key for scroll gesture" set to the default "Control" key >> Set Zoom style to "Full Screen". Obviously, if I could use this feature in the Apple Vision Pro, I could have full access to the environment around me. So please, if you could, I know for a fact there are thousands of people who would greatly appreciate the demonstration.

I'm building a cabin in the woods, on a lake. The views are stunning. I've been working remote for 25 years in my own business. I had always planned to seamlessly transition my work from home to the cabin all throughout the year, but this takes it to another level. I was looking for this EXACT kind of review. I think I'm going to take the leap. Brace yourself for pictures of me, sitting on my lounge chair, on the dock, in my bathing suit, with a Vision Pro strapped to my head, and my laptop on my lap. It's the ultimate re-invention of work. And then I can take this virtual office into the car (if I'm not driving), on a plane, to my bed, to the deck, or back to the dock. One question ... I wonder how Vision Pro works with Zoom?

Okay, so question. Why can't Meta Quest 3 that comes at a price of 500$ not worth it? Why couldn't this model be priced at 1500$ and be said worth it? because Meta Quest 3 is quad hd and this is 4k. Apart from that surely you can easily justify that at 500$ what quest 3 can do, and at 4000$ vision pro can so, how huge is the leap in productivity to make you say yeah 4000$ gives 8 times more productivity so i will use this over the Quest 3. Genuinely curious because i am considering getting a mixed reality headset for work.

Great use of the Apple Vision Pro. Can't wait to purchase one if it comes to australia, although there's a few things i'd like to see added to the Vision Pro that in my opinion would make it better! 1) To have 2-3 external display extensions from a mac computer, opens up professional multi-screen workflows and applications 2) To be compatible with a Mac Mini, apple vision pro would be a fantastic multi-display with e clean desktop 3) To have menus appear on your hands when you look down at them 4) To work better in low light situations, from what i've seen you need to be in a well lit room

A few things: * Foveated rendering only renders sharply what you're focusing on as your peripherals don't see hi-res. This is a big part of how it's so fast. * Thank you so much for doing a practical use video like this! Comparing it to a pro-level monitor makes total sense. * Is your house an A-frame? I don't really get it you never used a vr headset? All you did was replicate desktop that most headsets can do... sure it has some neat things but nothing really mind blowing that wont wear off in a few weeks as a tech demo so do update in a month or a few after actually using it to work.... I have 5 headsets and i just don't see it happening anytime soon as it being convenient and comfortable enough to be used in such a way always just go back to monitors. I am not sure why you are comparing it to apple XDR display there are plenty similar monitors without the 5x apple tax unless you really think that apple logo matters to you that much( I personally use Asus ROG Swift OLED PG42UQ and its great).

@JorgeHernandez-oy9ug
@JorgeHernandez-oy9ug 7 ай бұрын
@@mitchell10394 Hi. Depends on how you use it. On the steam deck you don't have nebula app hence no three degrees of freedom which allows you to turn your head for controlling what you want to see making it "more natural" (a limitation on all devices). Notice that even in a physical big screen you don't see the whole screen at a time for reading. One additional disadvantage to notice is the screen door effect for text which is a current limitation for OLED, but the text is perfectly readable and video has no issue. Without 3DoF it is also very fatiguing to turn your eyes to the limit for seeing text in the corners of the screen so, XReal Air in not yet recommendable for non Mac devices.
@mitchell10394
@mitchell10394 7 ай бұрын
@@JorgeHernandez-oy9ug No, i have the extra thing that you can buy that gives you 3DOF regardless of what you plug into. It's still an issue with the FOV. And the lack of 6DoF makes it bad for work - at least to me. If it had a higher FOV and 6DoF I could see myself using it for work.

The micro oled display is just low volume and expensive right now that Apple threw everything they can on this device. Whereas, the glass implementation by Xreal and Rokid is the most sensible where it allows passthrough for cheap and without the huge weight and huge cost. During pandemic, I got an idea what if I replace my TV as monitor with VR. During my search, there are indeed people who used VR for remote work but of course no one did it permanently for many issues.

I have a ultrawide 5k monitor and yes it's great but if I need to go and work away, I'm down to a 16" screen which is tiny in comparison and really kills my productivity. As you say too, being limited to working at the same spot, sitting in the same position all day gets tiring too so this will offer a bit of freedom working. Version 2 of the OS looks to amp this feature up to new levels with a panoramic 2x 4k monitors side-by-side which is replicating an ultrawide but on a cinematic scale. Will definitely be popping along to the Apple store to try one out.

I've tried using a 50" 4K as monitor and it wasn't nearly as good as having 2 x 27" 1080 monitors even if the resolution ok the 4K in theory should be almost equivalent.

I totally agree with the premise of this video. Nice work! However, the only limitation, which isn't that bad, is that the amount of "pixels" for the mirrored desktop display is 2560x1440. That's not bad. I currently have the Apple Studio display which can be 5120x2880. I love all that pixel real estate, but it's almost too high for the 27" screen size. I wish the resolution was larger for the VisionOS desktop mirroring. It'd be really nice to have 5120x2880 in the VisionOS to scale to any size, taking advantage of all those pixels. But 2560x1440 is not bad, it'd just be a couple notches better to have the option for more pixels on the mirrored desktop in VisionOS.

Does it detect what you are working on (say you have a non-laptop keyboard around) or you have to dial down immersion ? In Meta Quest 3/Pro, you can using custom passthrough to keep being 100% immersed while working and seeing your hands and keyboard (I am using custom software, xsoverlay and steamvr for this), I am considering the value proposition, if it can actually do that it's a major selling point.

For the price... I was hoping to been able to have at least 2 or 3 monitors available, that was a missing opportunity for Apple. The weight is not a problem, I use a Quest 3 which is about 100gr less but I'm using an extra battery so it's probably the same weight now.

Sounds amazing. Now they just need to keep making small/big improvements over time. The big one is perfect clarity is needed and less weight. If they solve those 2 things with a price of under $2k…I’ll probably get it. But we will see what happens in the market. Exciting times.

Apple is just barely scratching the surface with this in its current state. With future apps to come, the potential is immense.

Thanks for making this video. This is exactly why I was so excited about this product. Its my ability to work from it. I dont care about most for VR sturff out there.....the Apple Vision pro is just different. Glad im not the only one buying it for the sole reason to work from and maybe watch some content with during down time.

The fuzzyness is foveated rendering, when you get really close it is more noticeable, but Apple blurs things you don't look at directly to make it easier to render such high resolution displays at such high refresh rates, it is a technical limitation for now.

What about opening MULTIPLE safari or chrome windows all at once? I don't think that is possible but every review video seems to be NOT ADDRESSING that point or just vaguely mentioning it. It is a HUGE problem if you can't have mutliple browser windows placed in various places in front of you all at once. Please let us know about this for clarity.

It looks like they have implemented a focus region around the center of the viewer’s locus of vision. This is smart, because your eyes naturally blur out your periphery a bit anyway. These outer areas can be rendered at lower resolution without much loss in perceivable quality, saving processing power and energy consumption, thereby increasing battery life. However, it looks like the “double layering” of blur from both the software and your natural eyes means that you have to really focus on what you’re attempting to look at in, say, the spreadsheet, to get it to set the soft focus to line up with your eyes’ natural “sharp zone.” There will always be a tiny lag between when you move your eye and when the software can move the “focus locus”; the trick is to reduce the lag as much as possible, and the speed with which the first-gen Vision Pro can already do that is really impressive. When given time to catch up, that focus is super-crispy. Neat trick by the devs that might have a little refinement left to do. I’m sure this effect will be ironed out over time. Probably as processing power increases the size of the central focus locus can be expanded, making the edge less noticeable. This requires faster chips to render more area in hi-res; remember, the area of a circle to be rendered increases by the square of its radius. Probably future generations of chips will be able to handle this exponential increase in processing requirements. Also reduced lag as eye-tracking chips get faster should help too. I’m sure these ASICs will see major improvements by like version 4 or so.

The biggest advantage in my opinion is that you literally need less physical screens with the Vision Pro. A real tv/monitor needs real space. (Besides that it’s very heavy and not always movable for one person. I try to move my 55 inch tv yesterday and decided that it was better with two then alone.)

It’s not remote work, unless i am missing something. It’s more like augmented work, or even virtual work, but not remote. You aren’t remote to anything in this situation as you are in your work environment. Still cool.

Any thoughts on Vision Pro vs. Xreal Air, Viture, and the like?
@JeffFromMichigan
@JeffFromMichigan 7 ай бұрын
I have Viture and have seen people withthe VIsion Pro struggle with having something like a youtube video playing while they walk around. It seems it stays in place unless you hold it and "carry" it with you? I was walking my dog today and watched a video for work very well with the Viture. That being said, they're still very different products and are difficult to compare in my opinion. I'd compare the Vision pro to my Quest 3 before the Viture or Xreal Air. Won't be long before they have this for the Apple masses starting at $1500 with some features removed. Casey Neistat said it best, "this will be the worse Vision Pro Apple ever ships". Of course that makes sense, so this price is crazy for what you're getting right now for the average consumer IMO.

Great video! Do you think it’s doable to get work done on it without connecting to a Macbook? Like maybe just using an Apple magic keyboard and mouse and no laptop… That would be the real game changer for remote work or else it’s just another thing to have to set up. Edit: I bought mine for working during travel. I use all Apple products except Macbook (I use a windows laptop)… I have an Apple magic keyboard, but now I’m worried I’m going to need to buy a Macbook too now to really get the full benefits of remote working…

The need to turn to bring things into focus would definitely bug me if working for long periods of time. The other thing is, it has an M2. Why should you need to have the laptop with you? It should've been able to replace it entirely for $3500+.

Wanting to find a video regarding lens fog, I find it a big problem on Quest 2. Does it have lens fog when first being put on?
@joelmulder
@joelmulder 7 ай бұрын
Whether or not the lenses fog up has to do with the fit of the headset on your face, so it’s different for everyone. I’ve never had anything on my face fog up, from safety glasses to VR goggles, but others have it constantly. You’ll have to try it for yourself.

Am I crazy, or do all the Vision Pro videos show everything opened kind of tilted? Not really properly centered or aligned? I am assuming this is something you can only see on the videos, and your eyes probably don't see that same thing

Bravo!!! This is the review I was waiting for. I appreciate this detailed operating experience from a remote worker's perspective. When I first saw the Vision Pro, I was curious to know: - How does it help with writing, particularly with lengthy, in-depth script editing sessions? - Is it useful to online traders? Does it allow multiple windows on other platforms other than the Mac projection feature? (Or, maybe this is already possible but I'm missing it.) - In terms of eye and muscle fatigue, what does using and wearing the VP really feel like? What hurts after long use? Thank you-I'd appreciate any feedback from any passing VP user.

Thinking about getting a MacBook to use with my Vision Pro. Can I connect to my laptop while it sits closed in another room but plugged in? So if I have my laptop sitting closed behind me or in another room, can I go to control center in the AVP and connect to it? I have a Bluetooth keyboard I connect to the AVP, and would get a track pad to go with it if I could just connect to it conveniently within the avp without needing to go get the laptop and open it up.
