Vinyl Pick Ups & Scams

Sometimes this record collecting obsession gets me into sticky situations, this week I share about a recent instagram "ALL RECORDS MUST GO SALE" scam I fell for. But its not all bad, I was at the right place at the right time and was given TWO boxes of Jazz records.

Thank goodness you are able to report the scam to your bank in time. It must have been quite stressful all the same to experience that. Album collections are like books and they can reveal so much about the previous owners' lives.

Yeah I was so happy I was able to get my money back, back in the day it was hard . So true records are like books , totally says a lot about ourselves.

Hey Monica, I did the exact same thing. It was a fake website on Facebook selling Rolling Stones boxsets. Deals were too good to be true. The thing that got me was there was a timer on the website counting down saying the deal was almost over. In a rush to buy, I didn’t pay the deal due diligence and got scammed for about £100. Luckily got my money back through PayPal… won’t get scammed again!!!! I always take my time. Cheers, Jack

Ah! I felt so bad falling for it but they got us at our weakness ! Glad you were able to get your money back too, I tried to find the ad again to report it on Instagram but no luck. There’s been times when I do see great deals like this so it wasn’t too odd, the website had the timer thing too

Thank you! Shuffling though the records it seems like the really good ones were probably sold or taken. The guy had some price tags on the boxes. It was exciting though to get so many records all at once, never know which is the fun part! 😄

Glad you managed to deal with that! I may have a problem with a discogs order. Paid, guys got big sales and good feedback, but no response. Two weeks now, I notice that his latest review and sale was in april last year. Maybe he is dead? Have you ever seen videos and photos on sites with «amazing» prices and discovered that the «spokesperson» in the video is a fellow VC’er? Not fun for them at all. Oh no that’s horrible they would use familiar faces to get people trust. I just saw the ad again on Instagram - the same one I feel for and reported it. Oh sucks about discogs, are they good with returning your money if you never get your item? eBay pretty good on it.

@@MonieMuse I have never had to complain, also 10 minutes after I wrote you, the guy wrote me and told me ha had been sick and he was very sorry. Right after that again I got a tracking number on his shipment. So that was good! I don’t remember who it was but I’ve seen a couple of pretty well known people in the VC and other being misused in videos from scammers 😳

You can now become a Dixieland expert. Go buy a candy strip jacket! I use to have that Al Hirt, it came from my dad. I do like classical but it depends on the composer

Oh no!! Sorry to hear you got caught up with some scammers! 😢 Don’t feel bad, because you’re not the only one!! I thought I was getting a great deal on a bouncy castle for my kids a while back and it was a scam!! $100 for a brand new bouncy castle…I should have know lol!! I learned my lesson. ☹️

So many scams. I almost pulled the trigger on one. I saw a ad for a Beatles box set for 29 dollars. Like that say if it’s too good to be true , it’s usually is.

Given you're into Post-Rock, I HAVE TO RECOMMEND checking out one of the albums I recently picked up and that's "Altered State" by Tesseract. This album, an absolute masterpiece, was one of the best Prog Metal projects of the 2010s and one of the best Prog Metal albums ever made in the genre's history. The band released two versions: One with vocals (this is the only album they recorded with Ashe O'Hara on the mic) and one without. It's melodic, polyrhythmic, groovy, atmospheric, airy at times and all around really complex!

I forgot to mention, but I was like "EXCUSE ME!!!!???? HOLD UP!" when I first heard "Calabi-Yau", the closing section of the third song "Of Reality". A saxophone solo was one of the most audacious things I had ever heard in a Metal song, and is the cherry on this cake.

Herbie the love bug , Bennie Goodman is from my grandparents time period what did you think have you had a chance to put on any of his albums? Dixie land , sesions, Red Nicholos so on Presidents day I actually got a chance to put on some records after the Leafs Blues Kiss - Unmasked Jefferson Starship- Modern times Queen - Debut Queen - News of the world Van Halen - 5150 Foreigner - Boston - Debut I didn't finish do you have any of these records?

@@MonieMuse Have you thought about getting 5150? some of those albums may not excite you being there from the 70's I understand But I do think you would enjoy 5150 it's from 1986 its a 4 star album. even though 1984 is a better album 5150 is still good and worth picking up any thoughts?
