I had the plane all fixed up and ready to fly in the next few days. I used my laser cutter to cut new landing gear blocks and redesign the way it is supported and add some doublers in the fuse. I actually had a rough landing a few flights later (bad servo issue) with this plane and it bent the gear aluminum but the fuse and mounts were fine. The Motor on this for this flight was a Tacon Bigfoot 32, I have upgraded that to a Power 52 from e-flight swinging a 16 inch prop on 4s. It has plenty of power now and yes it is a super slow flyer and super maneuverable. The snoopy makes more sense as the pilot when you see what else I brought to fly with Brian that day We filmed 4 planes that day, this is the only one we crashed Btw :) More to come

Mike - I really enjoyed your segment with Brian and Camera Crew and look forward to seeing your other 3 planes. I built a Great Planes Trainer 40 back in the early 80's but never finished it because I didn't have the heart to crash it. I really got in the hobby under 2 years ago with foamies and modern tech. Now I can fly. May finish the Trainer 40 with electric power in the future.

Brian...you fly so smooth I can only think that comes from lots of experience and maybe lots of crashes? I got my Night Radian put together. The very first flight, the elevator slipped back as I followed the directions and didn't glue it. After waiting a week for blades, I spent an entire day slope soaring in front of my house. Funnest flying ever. It was just getting dusk when my dawg let out a blood curdling howl. Scared the crap outta me. We had been attacked by wolves before so I pay attention to his barks. It was only people walking. I was flying over trees. Looked away for only a moment and heard a crunch. My radian flew right into an eagles nest where it resides currently. I'm gonna buy another though your channel but I wonder if you can tell us about some of your crashes? Assuming you've had more than one or two???

It looked like the moment the plane went past the corner of the garage the wind situation changed 1000%, which we've seen in a lot of other plane flights. I'm shocked its a 4S plane. He must have put a very small motor in it. Dancing Wings makes great balsa plane kits, ARF and PNP.

it had a tacon bigfoot 32 which gave 100w per pound. it should have had plenty of power but the drag on that plane is very high and I didn't have a big enough prop due to the cowl size, I have upgraded the motor to a power 52 and 16 inch prop. still fly's slow but much more authority and spare power. I have learned on these ww1 planes like this and the DR1 you will see at some point that you need to upsize the motor and prop a couple sizes and ignore the watts to pounds equasion. My DR1 is on a power 60 with a 18 inch prop and 6s on a 8 pound plane and is not over powered at all. lots of drag to overcome

I reached out to Lemon a while back when this new generation of receivers came out. Unfortunately there is no self- leveling in this generation of receivers. I have asked them to consider bringing self- leveling back. Hopefully they are working out any issues with the earlier generation and we will see it again in the future.

Brian the E prop also suck on big cowed model. The gas props are best or wooden props that are over sized, and are cut down so they have a fatter prop cord at the prop tip. It works trust Me. :) I have been flying a Gee Bee model Y sense 2006. Brian I learned the hard way.
@MikeBrown-yp3ck Жыл бұрын
you are on the money. Zoar wooden props and upsize the motor on these ww1 planes are the key. lots of drag to pull the plane thru the air. I have upgraded to a power 52 and a 16 inch Zoar prop on this one, still 4s but it has plenty now

$20 lemonrx?😵💫🤦♀️🤷♂️🤯! That much in a plane to settle with an inferior reciever. WHY? I use spektrum rx's in everything, including my FT foamies. (Usually 620 or 410)
@BrianPhillipsRC Жыл бұрын
I think LemonRx makes a great Receiver, AND I love Spektrum as well. Mike is a special kinda builder...he really looks at these beauties he puts together and says, "...well, if it crashes, I'll just build another!" I've heard this before, but he REALLY means it, hence he let me fly it - LOL - but seriously, he's just a builder at heart; he loves it, and for him, the LemonRx is no problemo. He doesn't see it as a risk at all...but rather a cog in the hole of his build...it could be Spektrum, and he's done that too, but for this model, it was LemonRx. For what it's worth, regarding lemon, we've used them for years, and never had an issue (well, maybe one time - but that's debatable). I have personally communicated with the OWNER and DESIGNER of these devices, and the guy is a FREAKING GENIUS! He does the RX'es from what I can see as a total loss leader in his REAL industrial wireless communication control business. Really, if you think about it, if not for guys like him, Spektrum could and probably would, raise their prices, rightfully so. You gotta look at it from the perspective that some people do things because they LOVE doing them, despite the cost (aka, they don't need profit), while others may actually still LOVE what they do, but they can't do it to their own financial detriment (due to lack of resources, investors involvement, etc). I see LemonRx as a company that doesn't NEED to exist, but they do it from a true servants persepctive, and they make this hobby more affordable even for those NOT using their product. If you love Spektrum, as I do, then by all meant, keep getting their great product, but I'm not going to pretend that LemonRx is inferior, at least on it's face. These products do what they say, and they do it well. Are they AS GOOD? That's in the eye of the beholder, but they are more affordable, so we deliver this option for your consideration. @BrianPhillipsRC A flying buddy of mine, Dan, is like that. But even he has crashed a few using non-spektrum recievers. So many he is like me & my thinking. & he uses flysky too. (The cheap 6ch tx/rx that comes with 2 rx's for $50🤷♂️)

I love my 4strokes also but I had so many years of cleaning goo off of planes I have been doing a lot of electric. Not sure that a 46 would be enough power for this one. Maybe a 56 or a 70. Back in the 90s I had a sig 1/4 scale cub with a os 120 twin on it. I built a custom muffler out of aluminum pipe of different sizes tig welded together. It was as quiet as electric but still messy. I have another cub like that in the works and it too will have a 4t twin with custom muffler. However it may be gas.

@BrianPhillipsRC Жыл бұрын
I love that you call our 74+ acre flying area a "neighborhood" - LOL Yes, just like it will every other human in the USA, but to be honest, we can't really discuss this publicly, since there are things in the works. Also, we don't talk about this, since it's all up in the air, and such a waste of our brainpower, since the "powers that be" will do whatever they want, regardless of our rights...so I'm not super worried about RID...it we have to install 450 "devices" so we can fly in class G airspace, then I guess we'll have to get 450 devices - WHAT A JOKE. Not sure if you tried to update your Drone Registry...but they're now asking for a list of drones...these people need to go hide under a rock somewhere.
