This is what's so awesome about your videos. Most videos, Crash= end of video. Ad someone who is newer than new "still waiting to maiden my first real plane (apprentice sts) I find it very valuable to see your reactions. Like seeing the problem, assessing and making a plan. Ditching in the long grass, not panicking. Then you let us stay for the repair. It is seriously like having a mentor in the hobby. Thanks for that

Megan, you deserve a trophy for your filming!!! Modern powerful electric gray camo-ed jet flying in a gray sky with Brian slamming the sticks... Oh my gosh... how do you follow that thing? Your skills are amazing and with them you create the best videos. It feels like we are watching Brian's flying in person. So much that we duck sometimes but you don't... Thank you both so very much.

Brian, I started flying model aircraft 33+ years ago and I recieved my Private Pilot Certificate November 25, 1992. Of all the Aircraft I have flown, only one was lost so far and it was hit by one of my best friend's airplane while I was trying to land. Have you ever been interested in flying full scale airplanes. You would love it! NOTE: I enjoy watching and listening to your channel and you are one of the best educators in this hobby. Thank you for all you and your wife do. Scott Salmon

Thank you Scott! YES, I am currently involved with PPG, and hope to progress in this, as well as moving up to ultralights, and hopefully, with some more time, a lot of hard work, and some luck too ;) We will hopefully be building a 60X80X20 storage building and hangar for our full scale planes, and a full scale runway on the other side of the treeline behind our house. This will be an off road strip, about 1000-1200 feet. Here's our planned progression of large capital projects on the way to the plan above, God willing, if you're curious. 1) Plan & Dig (or start digging) Pond - THIS YEAR, going through permitting and engineering now, fyi 2) Build 60'X80' building pad, and road approach - Next year (2024) 3) Build 60'X80'X20' building and hangar - also next year (2024) 4) Build runway - dirt-work - The NEXT year (2025) 5) Build - Pave in Concrete OR Asphalt a Heli Pad and road from the end of the runway (current driveway turn around) over new dam, and then through the middle of the runway, continuing to the 60'X80' building, then continuing out the middle or far approach of our other property. This part might be broken up into a few years, depending on the immediacy of need of the path. This will probably start in 2024/2025 and then finish in the following few years. While all this is happening, I will be progressing in my PPG skills, doing it in a way that will give me as good a chance at keeping safe, and not getting injured or killed while practicing. This is a harder than expected step, and will help me to keep from getting too complacent. I'd like to also start working toward my PPL, up to and including instrument and gear ratings, with a possibility of helicopter rating too. Some of this will unfold as our life changes over the next few years, but I'm trying like crazy to keep this timeline, but there are a few items that will come up and cause some delays, if life keeps being life ;) I know about a few, that will happen whenever they happen, but Megan and I are trying to keep those from causing too much delay - this involves buying another piece of property (which is happening pretty much any time, if there's not a problem uncovered on updating abstract / closing) - this property will hopefully yield opportunity to build her folks a new house, and when they sell off their current land (being squeezed by town...they've been there for 40 years, and will hopefully make a pretty good windfall when it sells)...then we'll either rent that home to them, or sell it to them. Either way, this will lead to a possibly delay in the later projects, but Megan and I are going to be obligated to help her folks, and that's what we plan to do. Anyway, we'll also do a few hundred to maybe a thousand videos in that timeline too, and hope you'll find some interest in following along. I'm a planner; difference with me and others I've met - I'm blessed/cursed with a drive to see projects like this through fruition. It's a heavy weight I carry around my neck, but love the pursuit at the same time! Only issue we've faced of late, is helping my wonderful camera crew, wife, and best friend - Megan - to understand how to live this way. She would rather slow down, relax, enjoy what we've worked for. I will be learning to strike a balance between what she loves and what I love, so that we can keep enjoying our generally happy marriage ;) Well, that's all for now. Hope this makes sense, and helps you to understand what's REALLY going on "behind the scenes". It's more than most realize, but that's not their job, but I still think it'll make for a cool drama in the background of this otherwise simple channel.

I’ve been replacing my bad severs with AGFRC servos. They seem to be smoother and stronger then the Spektrum ones. I do have a stash of Spektrum ones just like you, but as I use them up I’m getting more AGFRC to replace them. Glad you got it working again. Sometimes I find fixing the planes more fun then flying them.

Sweet video!! I still fly my Freewing F-16 90mm that I got years ago, and man it flies so good! As my son wants to learn how to fly jets I’ve been thinking about getting the E-Flite model just cause of the safe feature, but even if I set my Tx as an instructor and let him fly until he gets into trouble. Lol Great video!!

This video is great I’ve wondered what goes into fixing some of these things many times. I’m a diesel tech and I’ve been very surprised how much overlap with tiny plane stuff it has. This is super cool bc now I’m not so afraid of crashing I know I have the skills to fix it assuming it don’t destroy it entirely awesome video.

Excellent video. The jet comparisons were awesome. Your flying skills and performance I could watch all day. I hate that this misfortune happened. But what an incredible opportunity to see how to diagnose and fix maintenance issues on your plane or jet. I have enjoyed this process immensely. As for the failed landing gear door. I’m definitely not a pilot that could pull off what I’m about to ask. But as camera crew and you mentioned, you have to have a plan in these situations. With two gear down, would there be any chance of landing with giving it aileron to hold up the side of the failed gear? Just curious? All in all this has been one of my favorite videos that you have produced. Hell of a job Sir. Thank you. Ok you just answered my landing question. I had sent this before the video was finished.

Brian awesome video. Love that 90mm. Viper. You can build up that dent inbthe leading edge with lite spackle filler. A few coats and you'll never see it . You can even put a tooth picks parallel with the wing , glue it in place so the very leading edge is stronger and it will give you something to glide your finger or butter knife on. I'm getting good at patching dents. LOL

I find that my thrust reverse works best on the “I” bind button switch. A little hard to reach but that makes it safer so I won’t accidentally hit it in flight. I did that on my RV7 and recovered 5ft above the ground 😳. After that I started using the “I” bind button for my reverse.

Great great video, Brian. What's crazy is everything that got damaged in your crash. Is what got damaged/quit working when I crashed on my maiden. (Got stuck in a tree 100' up) oh and I didn't get it down for 5 days.. My right stab got bent and I broke a few teeth in the servo. You can bend it back btw. I did it and it still flys true to this day. My gear door didn't fail during that crash, but it did a few flights later, after I it was back together. Had to replace the servo. The left wing is glued in 3 places, the front fuse is glued, missiles are glued to the wings, and one vent fin is glued to the fuse 😂 but man I swear on everything I love that it still flys straight and true. It's not the prettiest and it's my Frankenstein F-16. But it's so darn good. I have another BNF in the box but hell this one is still going strong hahaha. Again, great video and I love when you show this stuff. It always sucks when stuff like this, that's not really under your control, happens. But hey, idc who you are.. It's fun fixing your planes and getting back in the air. I always come back for more!

I've had a ton of stock Eflite, Spektrum and FMS servos fail in the past, my most recent was an aileron servo in the UMX Turbo Timber which was a pain to replace, it just stopped working for no reason. I usually upgrade to a better quality servo if I have the option, but by far the HobbyKing servos are the worst with the highest failure rates.

The F-16 actually carries a AIM-120( the missile of the wing tip of your model) as standard flight operations, on the wing tip. as were most fighters carry the side winder( likely the smaller missile you were talking about) it is due to aerodynamics of the F-16 wing, the short anwnser is. having the larger aim-120 on the wing tips cuts down on wing flutter and makes they viper more stable in flight while maintaining combat air performance. It is really the only fighter plane in the world to do this. So the model is accurate..... I have some experience with the F-16 and I'll leave it at that.

In my opinion the Viper 90 just blows all the other jets away in the fantastic flight performance and the build quality it is much better than the 80 mm F16. It's a shame E-Flight didn't give it a quality paint job but for all the features they added to it would of brought the price up.

Hey Brian, thank you so much for your videos. I’ve learned so much have a question. What does flair mean when you’re landing the airplane and you use the word flair I’m not sure what that means.?
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC Жыл бұрын
Flair means pulling the nose up and keep flying straight, as opposed to just flying UP. It's flying in a high alpha, or nose-up attitude. This uses the body of the plane to slow down the plane by adding a lot of drag, and also keeping controls working. Many aircraft flair on landing. You'll also see the space shuttle flair on landings to burn off inertia. Hope this helps!

I had an identical servos issue with my brand new Viper, which drove to a crash as it was on one flap. Was I could advice, try to check the heat of each of your servos before flying.
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that might help if the motor was overrunning, or if the end stops were broken inside the servo. That being said, I've seen several ways of failure on these servos, and all of them are super annoying, and very frustrating. Love both of these planes!

Yes, but only ONE aileron will be controlled by AS3X or SAFE....but this is USUALLY enough to keep the plane righted.

Great save on that landing ,it'squiet obvious that it wasn't any fault of the pilot. But a complete failure on Eflite's part and poor quality control and they don't have a good reputation for customer service either. I would hate to think if some young pilot had saved his hard earned money up to and purchase this product and fail . If it was mine l would send it back to place of purchase and ask for a refund . Although l did appreciate the indepth diagnosis and patience it took to find the problem

I understand your concerns, but don't forget I have crashed this plane a number of times ;) She is robust and amazing. It's one of, if not, my favorite plane!!! Troubleshooting is a tough part of the hobby, and something that everyone will have to do at one point or another, so I really hate having to share this, but want to teach, and Horizon Hobby is one of our best companies we work with, in regard to support after the sale. They have been good to me WAY before we were working with them. There has never been a time, and I've had a lot of "times" - LOL - where they said "no" to making a complaint right. Either way, glad you're with us Shaun, and happy flying!!!

I don't know of any plans, but if I did, I wouldn't be allowed to share them ;) I'd love to see one, but I think it's too easy to replicate in a DRONE style (Prop in wings), so I have to assume it'd be some hokey looking thing like that, and not the true to form dual EDF setup or pivoting EDF's - that's what I would want.

Jets r designed to do hi alpha, so hi alpha plop wouldve been best option. But elevator wouldve still caught grass & fried servo. Which may have been prevented by swiching off TX instantly A hot servo or a buldge around servo motor is a quick tale tell sign of fried servo With this kinda intricately wired plane, it would be better to solder replacement servo in-situ, instead of rewiring it.

It shouldn't be that difficult to make functional missiles that launch from the F-16. Just be sure there is no dry grass around or any material that catches fire easily. Small rocket engines for a short burn (just enough to put the missile in flight) would be perfect. I should be possible to do a gear up/gear down check just prior to flight...if you really want to go that far with preflight checks every single time (I think I would forget after the third or fourth time).
