BMW used red Loctite on their front wheel bearing/hub assembly, and when I had one go bad at 120,000 miles, it took a 2ft breaker bar and a 5 ft cheater pipe to crack it loose. Crazy.

I use anti-seize on the threads and rely on the crush gasket or taper to do its job. But I am saying this as a car with the #6 plug RED Locktited in because I did not want to helicoil it. Been in there for 2 years now.

Andy Plater I love flying after a storm or in colder weather. The thermals are soooo much kinder. Winter flying gear has come a long way. Dewalt makes some cool gloves, jacket combo's. They are powered by a standard 20v drill battery. Keeps ya nice and toasty for a few hrs. 😉

Needs more red loctite! Man we need to invent a torch holder, or maybe they have them already? thats the worst when you need two hands after you heat something and have to put it out just to set the torch down. Also, do you have a rosebud tip? I've never used one but need to get one for occasions just like this.

Mine broke and am having problems putting wires back in plastic housing. I know there is a Black, Yellow and a Stirped wire. HELP. Can’t find any clear answers online.

I use loctite 262 locker on things like bearing shells(to prevent spinning) and spark plug repair inserts like Timesert.

Got a question hoping you can help: I have an exsepensive survival knife that I believe someone used locktite on the end cap of knife. It's supposed to unscrew to get to contents inside the handle but this thing won't budge . I've had it in a vice grip no luck. Is there a chemical or something you could recommend? I've thought about heat but am afraid it may damage the built in compass under cap. Thanks

Yea red loctite requires heat in any correct application to take it out. The head here won’t really work with loctite without an activator. Aluminum magnesium stainless and others require an activator. So he probably got lucky that it was used without an activator or he wouldn’t have been able to get it out so easy. The heat though breaks down the bond and with the activator he would have had to put more heat than that head could have taken without destroying the threads by the way he explains in the video. I’m not sure if the spark plug also has stainless for threads. If so that again might be why he was able to use a hand tool. Edit spelling

Use CRC clorinated Brake Clean (Red Can). Soak for 30 minutes. It dissolves Locktite.

I have a good lady friend in Murry, who wants to fly tandem with me. Would be cool to do some fly camping with other ppgers. I live near Twin Falls, so a fly in is possible to Utah.. Anyone watching this really stuggling with red loctite and u dont wanna use heat, use non-chlorinated Brakleen. U just spray a pool on top of the bolt and it will soak through the threads and literally melt the red loctite. Takes a little force but it will go after about 20 minutes of sitting and making sure there is a pool on the bolt the whole time. Wayyyy easier than heat, for proof I used this method and disassembling by Big Brake Kit for my car.

@@jeffersonairplane6094 not that i know of, it didnt even effect the paint on the calipers. I still use this method when i use red loctite. Works great. Just make sure its the non-chlorinated red can. Green can wont melt it

It's all about trusting materials, workmanship, and your training. You trust your car, tires, and other drivers with experience. The fear is there, but the reasons to go anyway are also there.

With good gear and training it's a lot safer than you think. There's not much to hit except the ground and decent is well managed and a hedged bet. It's safer than most of my other hobbies like hunting, dirt bikes, skiing, target sports etc.

I broke my first ratchet on red locker because he put it on the brake caliper mount. which believe it or not has to come off to replace the rotor. At least it gave me a good excuse to by a nice socket set

GM uses blue or a yellow green thread locker on those, but they also use very course threads to reduce surface area- or visa versa. Either way- it works.

Questchaun Dont forget used equip. Deals can be had from guys buying tbe equip new, and only flying once. They was a fellow on ebay who got rid of $5k worth of equip for $2.5, cause his wife was scared of him flying.. Little do folks know, but you are 10 times more likely to die in a car crash going to Walmart.

When a car accident disabled or kills someone we know we kind of just accept it as inevitable... When what actually should be done, is something along the lines: the trillions we (humans) wasted on military must instead be spent on automizing the transportation system (/eliminating the car accidents, or greatly reducing them). And this requires spreading of this kind of consciousness, which eventually should result in massive protests for this cause (since the power/money are centralized, the step of protests are inevitable really, in any issue, but first and foremost there must come the realisation).

briansmobile1 Thanks for the reply Brian. I understand. I have two of these machines. Actually the first one put out, the paraplane (twin counter rotating props and a two seater hammering high flyer. Developed a terminal disease from agent, had to have a lung transplant, so I haven’t flown since then. It is a beautiful sport. Nothing like going up 2500 feet or so cutting off the engine, almost surreal. Treasure these times, nothing stays the same. I read somewhere, a man shouldn’t regret what he did, only what he didn’t do.

Once the Loctite reaches carburisation temp it releases its hold . I have read where CRC brake cleaner degreaser works where heat might be a problem let soak 24 hrs and I personally never used this method but saw it work. I think temp is about 500 degrees for red but not sure, much below metal melting temp though, rule of thumb blue only unless you know of blue failure to hold and it does happen. Ask a man who wrenches heli's he can teach you lots about Loctite

It’s a thermoset plastic. Heat will soften it, but it will not melt. Put heat to it and try to loosen, if you not successful add more heat until it will loosen. Somewhere between 450 and 750 F. It’s a great brand and has provided me wages for over 15 years.

The heat to "break' red loctite is very very likely much less than the melting point of the host metals. If you melt a casting to break free loctite, there is something being done wrong.

If you watch his other videos he explains the sparkplugs on those engines like to fall out because of all of the vibrations, if it falls out mid flight you are in for a hell of a ride when your engine shuts off at really high altitude.

TehHijack *WRONG* From another ppg'er, the higher you when your motor suddenly quits, the safer you are. Imagine being only 300 feet high, now how much glide time do you think you would have, vs 8-10k feet?? With the with conditions and a skilled pilot, you could glide for 15 min easily at 10k feet. This is also why the FAA frowns upon ppg'ing at a lower alt over urban areas.. If something happens at 500 ft over L.A. city, you have literally seconds before some innocent person on the ground gets killed.. See how Brians vids show him flyin over the boonies?

Back when I still worked behind the counter in an auto parts store, one of our customers asked what loctite he should use to install the seats in his truck... After we told him "none, torque it to spec and use a bit of blue if they're loose when you recheck them..." he decided we were wrong and went with red... I mean, the carpeting under a seat isn't that flammable, right?

Believe it or not. Non chlorinated brake cleaner will melt red loc tite, which is especially in a area where heat or a torch is a no go. Put the NC brake cleaner on and lert it soak into the threads for a few hours or longer, (maybe 2 or 3 applications) it will melt the red loc tite and you'll be able to remove it.

Red Loctite is great when used properly.. that being said I've seen people put that stuff in the DUMBEST of locations, THEY MAKE A BLUE ONE FOR A REASON! Recently I bought a used zero turn mower, i went to change the oil out and uh.. the previous owner put a THICK coat of red loctite on the drain plug...i ultimately resorted to pumping the oil out and I'm not looking at having to replace the entire assembly because i can't get this sucker off unless I were to melt the whole half of the motor. Feels like i'm going to do more damage trying to take this one plug out than anything else.

Matter of fact- yes. Yes I have. It was back in early October. I got a cold thermocline I was stuck in over a mountain again- same mountain as before. Nice thing about cold air is it's like sports tires. It's thick and you get good bite on it. The other good thing is you can get down out of it either on the leeward side of the mountain or because it generally sinks rather than carrying you up like warm air does.

I think you should have just given the heat to the head and not the spark plug, the aluminium would have expanded, but the steel on the plug remaining the same.
