To clarify, I generally recommend blue loctite when installing parts.

Thanks for a great video. When I got my first scope in 1964 for my Sako .270, my Dad told me to use Gasket Goo on the scope mounts and screws. It worked well, but when I became aware of Loctite a few years later, I used it. Still do to this day....

I Loctite everything... Theres optic companies who claim you dont have to Loctite the scope rings but that's BS I've have rings loosen up even if they're torqued to spec... I think just about all shooters has had this happen at some point... Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!

I’ve had the same thing happen to me using my Glock 45 MOS with the OEM plate. I was practicing for an upcoming match and shot about 200-250 rounds in about an hour. Noticed at the end that my POI shifted and at first chalked it up to the barrel being hot. That’s when I noticed the exact same thing, the MOS screws backed out 3/4 turn on both sides.

Have allot of PA prisms & the same optic you got on the way😎. I personally have never put locktite on the mounting screws but always make sure it’s pushed forward and pretty damn tight and never had them come loose. May or may not take your advice😜

Interesting that you had that issue. I know some mount manufacturers don't want Loctite because of the way it effects torque readings. "Wet torque" versus "dry torque" maybe it was just a mount failure?
@OreGear
@OreGear 3 жыл бұрын
The mount itself seems fine. Nothing is cracked or damaged. I didn’t use any specific torque when installing it on the rifle either. I’m inclined to blame it totally on user error.

VERY interesting! True,I’ve got several PSA guns and these soldier types at the range said they don’t touch PSA. I did t get it because I’ve never had a problem with mine, but I also never have had my barrel literally smoking like they did that night. But yeah, I’ve got some low tight but I’ve never used it. I think I will do I just put it on the screws as they are or do I have to back them off and remount? I’m assuming I just put it on as it is….

Live and learn, eh? I've heard Faxon barrels are not dimpled where the gas block goes. Have you dimpled yours? If not, you should very seriously consider it unless you are pinning your gas block to the barrel. The same force that pushes the BCG back also pushes the gas block forward. Simple set screws don't cut it. I've got my own KP-15 build just about ready for testing as soon as rounds don't cook off in the magazines from going outside 😉

2 questions: Why is the limited eye relief prism mounted so far forward? Why is your laser illuminator so far back? Really interested in this setup. I have a wwsd to build myself.
@OreGear
@OreGear 3 жыл бұрын
The eye relief on the new micro cyclops is extremely forgiving so it’s perfectly usable at this distance. It also allows me to place a magnifier behind it when I want to. The IR unit is a laser only so I don’t have to worry about illuminating the rifle. Having it located here also helps me keep the weight further back, which feels better on such a light gun.

What’s the weight difference between the KP15 as opposed to a regular lower with adjustable stock?
@CalzaTheFox
@CalzaTheFox 2 жыл бұрын
This will vary a lot depending on your choice of lower, stock, and any extra bits added. But, as an example, the complete milspec KP15 is 1.704 pounds according to Brownells. Stripped is 1.026 pounds. As they say.. ounces lead up to pounds real fast.

a barrel becomes longer as it gets hotter but it extends straight as long as there is nothing holding both ends. for this reason a full floating barrel only holds one end and let's the other freely expand. only if you over heat the barrel to the extent that it melts will it bend. otherwise it should remain completely straight. a pencil barrel cools faster than a thicker barrel. If you would like to cool it even faster, JP Enterprises sells what they call thermal dissipators. check them out.

I accidently applied a little too much blue loctite on the barrel nuts of my Stribog and a lot has seeped out onto the outside of the barrel. I've recently installed a 16" barrel to convert it to a PCC carbine. Do I need to worry about that? Would that cause damage to the barrel if I leave it alone. I don't want to have to take the thing apart. But if I do, I think I need to do it soon as this stuff cures in 24 hours
@OreGear

Is red a bit too much? Or which flavor of locktite do you recommend? I know there are many different compounds even of red locktite I.e. 271 272
@24YOA
@24YOA 3 жыл бұрын
Personally I'd use blue on about everything that's not getting hot, or that I may want to remove easily. Red is usually overkill and requires concentrated heat to break. Using red on a flashlight or plastic grip is a bad idea. Using red on things like a rail system screwing into your upper, or your castle nut, is a more proper application.
