Is it possible to change the designated "accounting" currency from $ to whatever applies to my country? I like that it is separated, instead of the "Currency" option where the symbol sticks to the number, which is not visually appealing imo.

For those doing this is 2024 during the date autofill at 14:05 you must type Feb 29 instead of Feb 28 because this is a leap year, or the dates won't autofill & you will have to enter them all manually. Thank me later.

Tip: on the transactions tab, arrange activity in chronological order, oldest at the top, add new current rows at the bottom. Why? Doing so spares you the hassle of INSERTING a new row for every single event. There are ample empty rows at the bottom. Plus, chronological order just makes sense to view. Bonus tip: place a running sum column on the right side of the main tab. Just be sure to count income as a positive and expenses as a negative. (I've been doing this since the 1990s.) Good video.

⁠@@Jonesy02445 =SUM(Cell#:Cell#) In the paranthesis are the cells you want to calculate Example: (A1:A10). This is a formula that works in Excel I’m going to assume its the same as Google Sheets I could be wrong, but if you can locate the autosum function and click on it when you are at the bottom of the sheet then you can use it as a Total row.

Isn’t the running sum column just the same as the net income table ? Or do you mean the sum of the transactions ? That also requires a starting total of the balance

A running sum can REALLY slow down the processing speed of even a fast computer. His method avoids this, and is worth the extra effort.

LOVE this tutorial and I plan to use this for 2024. QUESTION: How do I account for charges placed on a credit card because I want to track the category of expense ($50 office supplies from Amazon -- tax write-off). But I do not want the expense to be duplicated when I pay the bill at the end of the month ($150 Amazon Card PMT) If I simply logged office supplies as an expense and then logged the card payment as an expense, I would end up doubling the expences. I hope that makes sense.

Date formatting can be quite tricky in both Excel and Google Sheets in my experience. Just be careful and try and test it by subtracting one date from another to check if it works👍

@brian - this is exactly what I want for my monthly expenses except it's missing 2 things. 1. a way to use a google form to auto populate the expense tracker so I dont have to manually add expenses to the sheet 2. a way to see my monthly budget status across all expense categories (without having a million tabs at the bottom) Can you show us how?
