This budget tracker has absolutely changed my life! Thank you thank you! I've been using it for a month now and I can't believe how in control I feel of my money. I have had various iterations of budgets over the years and I'm actually an accountant but I never felt I was in control throughout the month. I would just look at the numbers at the end of the month and wonder what happened. I knew I needed this I just didn't know how to go about it. Future us thanks you when we can retire!

Just about to graduate from college and had a little bit of a meltdown yesterday thinking about finances in the next 4-5 months (money is going to be tight transitioning into the workforce). I've taken a spreadsheets class so I decided to look up a tutorial. The amount of relief I feel right now from doing this is wild! I feel like I have control over everything I do financially moving forward now and can even look toward the future with savings using this format. You are a lifesaver, thank you sir!

Great tutorial. I got rid of my Quicken. This is better. I added two columns to the Final Tracker sheet. Column G with the label Complete, and added checkboxes to the entire column. Column H is labeled Bank Balance. The formula for Column H starting at H3 is: =IF (G3,H2+D3-E3,H2) then drag it down. Put the starting balance in H2 (same as D2). The Bank Balance will change as you check off the transactions as they occur. If you want to make it a little cleaner, add conditional formatting, custom formula starting at G3 with this formula: = (G3=FALSE) Make the action to change the text color White, then drag it down. Then the calculated numbers in the Bank Balance column will only show up when the check box is checked in the G column. Hope this helps someone.

Super video! One piece of advice for those that have expenses that fall on the last day of the month each month. What you do is on the first date, you manually enter the date (the last day of the month like normal). Then the second date, you will use this formula =EOMONTH(cell with first date, 1). The first number is the reference, the 1 is the number of months it will return based on the cell reference. This in our case will be "1" since we want the following month!

@libbysworld76492 жыл бұрын
The two currencies is beyond my scope of understanding...but there's another video on this channel on how to add a savings account to this spread. And as far as importing from csv data sets, if you use chrome, as I do, there is an extension to import csv tables to a master spreadsheet. From there you can adjust your queries to blend the data with the expense and income tabs. Hope that helps.

This is very good. Well done. Relatively simple but provides a lot of useful information. It occurred to me, when you were testing the conditional formatting using the speculative expense of the Boat, that perhaps there could be a function that would suggest when you COULD afford the Boat, or other exceptional expense. If we created a sheet “Anticipated” or “Speculative” which contains expenses that you might want to spend, perhaps it could search through the Tracker sheet to see when, for each, the Balance is higher than that expense and that forthcoming expenses aren’t going to cause it to drop below the $500.

I figured out how to do it for monthly and for yearly, but for the life of me I cannot figure it out for bi-weekly or semi-monthly. What does this formula do & where do u put it?
@Justin-mh9zq Жыл бұрын
Awesome! I plan on using it for 2023. Is there anyway to create a new sheet that keeps track of all your transactions once you check off "complete" on the "fixed expense" sheet, "income" sheet and fill out your "other expenses", this way you can track things month by month?
@libbysworld7649 Жыл бұрын
Hi Justin, what I did was create a pivot table of my "Final Tracker" sheet and I was able to use that rolling data to plan and forecast all kinds of things. You can easily set up a tracker doing this month to month and add additional columns for your own tracking purposes. I did something similar to show me my spending trends. You can place it in an independent tab on the spreadsheet. Best of luck.

Love it!!! Been wanting to do something like this. Can you show how formulas would look like in excel
@janinepelletier99652 жыл бұрын
I was wondering this too. As much as I love some of the features of Google I like that excel is on my computer and not in the cloud. But I'm not sure how the formulas translate if at all. I hope he sees and responds to this. Or hopefully someone can

Thank you for the quickly set up template. Recording all my purchases that put me at a deficit was not so quick or painless though. This will definitely help me curb purchases that aren't strictly necessary. (Edit) I'm commiting to lots of overtime lol

I have been doing this manually since 2016 for our personal finances and have always been curios how I could automate it easier and this is exactly what I needed! Any time I was asked how I budget, my first response was, I dont like the word Budget! I simply just know where my money is in a month or even a year from now. Idk what would we even call this kind of "budgeting" tool?

I just wanted to say I am such a fan of this Spreadsheet and has been such a great addition to organizing the family budget, i do have 1 question, if you receive a pay rise how do you change your income without having to go through individually. please understand i literally copied your entire video as i have no knowledge of how to you use excel at this level
@libbysworld764929 күн бұрын
Hello, if you go to your income tab and modify the entry of the first pay with your increase and in the lower right corner of the cell that has your income, click and drag down and fill in the remaining cells. Everything else should adjust.

Very good video, thx. If you add a "countif" for the -500 bucks you don't have to scroll to search everytime you want to know if there's a problem with the budget. You also can look for those specific dates... Just adding to your video with ideas... Thx for sharing ✨

Thank you for this video!! I had the same question as someone else below: If I transfer money to savings, but then go on a big vacation and take for example $1000 out of savings, how do I go about documenting this? Savings was already an "expense", so now what do I do about my new $1000 expense so I don't double count both savings and my vacation as expenses?

I'm so thankful that I found your page since I've been searching for the past couple of days. My brain is wrecked from recreating multiple ideas. So I have a question since my brain is stuck. If I have multiple bank accounts and want to still see the running balance including those, how'd I go about setting that up? Maybe in the morning I can better wrap my brain around the addition. Lol. Thanks!!! Appreciate all the help.
