I have had an eating disorder for over 40 years and I am now 50. I suffer from chronic pain with no known cause. I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis, but never had a fracture. I am trying to rebuild strength, but my muscles are so weak and I suffer horrible pain every time I do the minimum. I used to over exercise when I was deep in the eating disorder, but stopped exercising over the last several years because of pain. Now I have pain in my knees, feet, hips and low back and don't feel like I can support myself, especially in the balance exercises. Walking is very painful for me, so I bought a recumbent bike to at least get a little cardio, but my knees hurt so bad when I am done, and I only did it for 10 minutes with least resistance. I am at a loss of what to do. I have been in physical therapy, but all I get is stretching exercises, and that actually makes my pain worse. What to do???

I'm so sorry to hear this. Sounds like you are trying hard to recover in some way and pain is very challenging for movement. Pain is complex, and often needs more nuanced care. It would be wonderful if you could find someone that had special training in the biopsychosocial model of pain management. Dr Rachel Zoffness PhD is absolutely fabulous at helping people with complex pain. She has a wonderful book called "The Pain Management Workbook". a.co/d/d6YeNvN

Hi. I love your videos. I am a very disciplined person. A former yoga teacher . I've had osteoporosis for 10 years. No medication. I was apparently doing movements for all these years I should never have been doing, at least not without modifying. Hard vinayasas- omg- the arm/leg balance poses and twists.I am amazed that my body is ok. Here's my problem. I do have an outer hip tissue problem ( can't for the life of me name it or find my medical paper describing it). My outer hip/glute stings. I've learned to live with it and recognize what makes it worse. My problem is the movements that are good for building bone the best ( weighted squats or lunges) put my outer hips in pain. If I do all the other things including using weights, just not squats or lunges, can I still expect to derive benefits to my bones? I know too much yoga created the outer hip tissue issues but it's frustrating that the answer to one problem creates or worsens another problem, Meanwhile thanks sooo much for all the balance work. I am seeing amazing results in that area. Always my weakest part of yoga (have bunions)-one legged balances ( much better on my arms and head) and now I can actually do balances and close my eyes!!! That's a miracle. Thank you. My posture is good thankfully.
