Brick Lane was completely dead 30 years ago. Now, it’s packed 24-7. I come from there. My Nan used to own a Jewish restaurant in Brick Lane called Kitties in the 50’s. Should have gotten a dozen Beigels to take back. Brilliant vlog. Such happy memories!

Most of the Jews had moved on to better pastures and the Bangladesh people were the new kids on the block. A time of transition. A hard time as it mostly always was in the very east end of London.

Sharron & Martin great content again as usual you go together like strawberry's and cream a great couple and family .may I just say that I spent most of my young teenage life living and working in the east end and I loved it full of Jewish people with their bakeries tailoring shops and the famous blooms restaurant just before aldgate station serving salt beef to the stars of the day,and brick lane was the world famous petticoat lane market and on the corner of brick lane was the famous tubby Isaac's jelly eel's and cockles stall.the year was 1967.

My word this has changed so much.The flats I lived in are opp the station but it has changed so much it’s unrecognisable.There was a pub and an old fashioned shop that sold sweets in the jars.Good memories

My wife Sharon and I have done that Jack the Ripper tour one atmospheric evening, and it was excellent! If you ever get the chance, do it. I've taught in schools in the area for 35 years (now retired). I love it, it has such a long history, and when you walk the little back streets you really get a flavour of it. It's always been the part of London that has welcome immigrant communities, starting with the French Huguenots back in the 16th century. Followed by Irish, Jewish communities fleeing persecution, and now the SE Asian community. It got it's name after the Great Fire and they started rebuilding houses in bricks rather than wood, loads of brickmakers sprung up using London clay. Thanks for the entertaining video, I like your channel because of the range of things you two get up to.

One thing I learned staying in a Travel Lodge is...don't place your room key card next to your phone as your phone will block it from working. Twice I got locked out of gaining entry through the locked corridor fire doors alongside my room door.

Another great travel video and I love sag a loo not sure if the spelling is correct ? but it definitely incorporated spinach. I love cheese and definitely melted cheese. Very interesting - when I lived in London many moons ago, it was fun to go exploring all the different neighbourhoods - I guess you could probably go somewhere different every Saturday & it would take you a long time before you returned to the same place twice! I'm always amazed these days - compared to the the Olde Ones - how many eateries there are - how people have that much dosh to keep so many places going! We were just making a lamb & spinach curry - but I can't imagine it will be anything like yours, Martin - that looked brilliant. Really do miss a good Indian (although it's been years since I've eaten out at all) I do enjoy your jaunts - actually you may think about doing Lincoln - as the old part of the town at the top is worth a visit. One of our favourite places used to be Durham, don't know what it's like now, very atmospheric at night - actually I think that was the last decent Indian we ate!... Enjoy - Happy Travels & Good Eating!

I’ve absolutely 💯 enjoyed this blog- sooo funny, educational and fascinating 🧐 The banter between you two in the hotel room is priceless 😅 However, Martin, that’s very naughty of you to call Sharon a lazy cow- she’s not, she’s lovely and has the right to relax! Very much a comedy of errors with the hotel room- sort of reminded me of when you travel with Lee, Martin😂 Brick Lane was very interesting 🤨 reminds me of Brooklyn, NYC! Restaurant dishes looked delicious and I learned the names for some dishes from you so many thanks 🙏 I liked it when you went in the Vintage Shop- my God, the high prices-they call it vintage but it’s really a nice way of saying thrift shop😮 I could get rich selling all my old clothes 😅 Honestly, Sharon and Martin, you are sooo delightful and the best channel on KZbin!
