Weep holes do more than let water out. They let air in to the cavity. If you have a 30 mph wind up against a wall you'll have 30 psi of air pushing on the surface. You have no wind on the inside of the cavity. That makes the air pressure less on the inside surface. The pressure differential leads to the masonry units not just absorbing water but actually sucking water in like a vacuum. Some walls used to have brick vents to equalize the pressure.

Flashing should extend slightly past lintel. Even 2 mm to make a drip. Sealant on lintel edge seal flashing to lint so no water gets in between flashing and flashing material. When it rusts you can never get back in to fix it without removing units.

Thanks for sharing this. I hate doing things on my own sometimes, but videos like yours Izzy really motivate. You make it look easy. It's easy to pay for this kind of work, but so much more rewarding when you can do it yourself. You are clearly good at what you do man. The only down side is, if you teach everyone these skills, won't it mean you get less contracts? For the record, i'd employ you or your company, if you have one, without hesitation. Thanks again mate. I need to subscribe to you now. RB

Feck that Lol, I wouldn't have even got out of the Van if I had seen them trestles,how are they they going to do the roof and Gables of them? Seems to be a bit of penny pinching going on at your expense. Believe it or not weep holes are not deemed necessary anymore in rendered work not that I've ever seen one work lol, wouldn't be allowed the brick bearing for the lintol by my local BC , classed as a cold spot but allowed under a steel as a compromise??? 👍

@IzzytheBricky2 жыл бұрын

Are cavity trays essential?
@IzzytheBricky3 жыл бұрын
Hi Pat! Yes mate they are nowerdays. They help moisture escape the cavity via the Weep Vents. When you have anything that bridge's the cavity (something which touches the external brickwork and also the internal blockwork) it needs to have cavity tray over it.👌👌
