Drew - best of luck with your RM application. IMO, the Royals still to this day have the hardest basic training in the regular British Armed Services. A couple of suggestions for you. 1. I can see you hit the gym and whilst upper body strength will be severely tested you also need to be able to 'tab' with weight. You can't do this in a gym - there is no substitute for putting a 30lb pack on your back and getting out on the hills at weekends. Trust me, it's the only way to build load carrying, fitness and endurance. 2. Consider joining the Royal Engineers instead of RM. Hear me out on this one...They have a Commando regiment. After basic training and combat engineer training you can apply for the All Arms Commando course and on passing that go to 24 Cdo Regt in Barnstaple. The major benefit of going Engineers is that you will be able to do a trade course such as Bricklaying (and get Civvy quals). So look at the big picture, at some point you will come out of the Services and you'll need a skill or trade in order to get a job. Engineers offer loads of trades and other technical courses. Plus you get a green beret and a dagger as a Cdo! Happy days!

I got to be honest with you, I've seen your videos pop up on my feed but I've always ignored them because I thought I was currently watching the most skilled trowels. After watching a couple of your videos I realized you are definitely on that list so you now have a new subscriber. Not sure I've seen anyone butter perp and lay a bed so skillfully and quickly. Very impressive. God speed.

Is it normal for block-work to wobble? I’m at plate height with no roof on and when pushed slightly there is a slight wobble.
@matthewsandford48132 жыл бұрын
How do you secure the wall plate? In parts of Australia you would hoop iron at least 4 courses down or threaded rod embedded in hollow block work and back filled with concrete.
@IzzytheBricky2 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the comments buddy, here we use Lateral Restraints. Basically a L shape steel. Spaced every 600mm bolt the top of it into the timber and the long part bolted into the blockwork wall

What type of insulation do you use in the cavity, I thought that insulation was for roofs only and you had to use cavity bats, any clarification would be great as im about to start an extension.

Izzy, never seen a staggered tray before, especially on the upper level. I’ve seen it at damp proof level and applied above lintels. What was the reason why you had to do it the way you did? 👍
@IzzytheBricky2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, it's staggered so the whole side of that extension along the angle of roof is protected from damp. Cheers Richard, hope that helps a bit. There's a few good pictures online explaining strep trays alot better than I did in the video 😂👍

I think it's because bricks and stone are porous and water can actually seep into the cavity. Site manager at work said he's seen water streaming down cavities with extensions or other buildings at an abutment to the wall quite insane really.
