Kin ell. Amateurs or what? Go inside, flip out the glazing bars. Unscrew the frame. Bingo. Wouldn't want them doin an upgrade. 😮😮😮
@SteveAndAlexBuild11 ай бұрын
Did you actually watch any of the video? The glazing bars were outside with brackets and security screws which we don’t have a screwdriver for . The frames would have been cut up for the skip anyway . There were 3 rusty screws So your comment is just ridiculous 🫠

Interesting as had the original not been such a bodge i would say pre 1980 because of lack of insulation. When i was at college, mid 70s we were taught to spread the bed correctly and minimise snots in the cavity and if there were any to leave them as scraping them of will just create droppings. Obviously this is pre cavity insulation days but this example proves we were taught correctly in them days for the systems in use 👍

Running out of superlatives for your work ethic both of you - your customers must love you! I'm not a tradesman at all but even I can see the awful job the previous 'brickies' did! And they got paid for it? Shouldn't there be a call for an independent 'assessor' or Quality Control person to sign-off finished work before payment? But, hey-ho, what do I know. Good job guys, thanks for the upload Steve. Al, watched you emerging for over a year now, you have progressed beyond recognition. Hi guys. Very old UPVC frames had aluminium inserts and were only welded on the corners. Nowadays we have steel inserts however I've noticed that here in Poland and for that matter, most of Europe, the internal joints are still mechanical (not welded as in the UK). I think it's something to do with internal stresses of the UPVC in hot weather but not sure. Not sure whats with the bright blue and yellow walls. I guess different people different tastes. Certainly a wake up call. Anyway, great job.

Cavities 3 courses deep with snots is not uncommon on any build from late 50s onwards and especially extensions like these. Took out some cast in situ concrete lintels last year. They had bitumen trays but the trays were 200mm deep with snots. The Marston bricks and mortar with Leighton Buzzard sand in it were absolutely rock solid and impervious to water ingress, everything was bone dry at least.

These weren't boot lintels, full 200 x 225 x 3600 or imperial equivalent. They had butterfly ties cast in them to hold the soldier course on the outer skin.

Why always the wool between the two layers of wall? It isolates worse than air, likes to wick itself full of water and then starts to mould. Is that some modern construction-code in britain?

@@martin2466 Well quite some moulded isolation-wool from the "Hohlschicht" (don't know the english term for the space between outer and inner bricklayer) of a (privately built) outer wall from my parents house was removed during a renovation some years ago, that soaked itself full of condensation over a period of about 40+ years. That stuff was almost totally black of mould. Don't know if it was "Rockwool cavity insulation batts", was made in the early 1980ies. And was definetely not a good idea. > "What do you mean when you say, "It ISOLATES worse than air?" That (unmoved) air is still the best thermal insulator (besides vacuum). Or is "Rockwool cavity insulation batts" better? Then sorry ... Nothing against Steve and Alex, I thought that maybe the isolation-wool is some kind of legal-standard now in Britain, like wrapping old buildings in a lot of plastic seems to be in germany.
