One cool thing to use as well, especially in place of using the manual arrow to place the sub model, is the "Activate Buffer Exchange" option. On the step where you place the lid, you can select the lid itself, activate the buffer and raise it up from the lower box. It will automatically place an arrow to show that you are supposed to place the sub model onto the top of the box.

I'm 2 Videos into your channel and you've made my life so much easier, I designed my first ever MOC 2 weeks ago and I've been dying to make instructions for it but the whole process just looked super daunting and I've been doubting myself but you've made it look so much fun and I can't wait to start on my instructions tomorrow, I really love the way you think when making instructions (how would I want to build this) absolutely awesome and definitely something I would have not thought about but glad that I know about it now.

@@msbrickkitten6882 sorry I didn’t see this question sooner! It is possible through parts designer, that is a separate program from studio, but it’s also from Bricklink and they work well together. I’ll put that on my list of tutorials to tape in the near future.

A very helpful tutorial! I just have a question. With the model I'm designing, there are four legs with three sections to them; the foot, the calve, and the thigh basically. In the instructions creator, there is a text button which is what I assume you use to type "x4" to symbolize you need to make four of that submodle. Now, the question is, how do I not make the three other versions of these separate submodels appear in their own steps, but appear in the instructions alla the final page where we see the whole model together? I apologize if my question looks complex. Edit: I found out how to do what I wanted. Once again, thanks for this helpful tutorial!

Thanks for the vid; very helpful. I have a problem I cannot figure out. I add bricks as temporary supports early in a design. Later I want to remove them. I cannot figure out how to get studio, nor the instruction maker, to represent this as a step. When I remove the temporary bricks, they are not just removed from the current step, but from all previous steps as well. Have you ever done this or know of a workaround? Thank you in advance for any help here and best regards.

Great tutorial, thank you very much. I am very new to Studio and have successfully created 2 instructions for 2 ball contraptions in 1 week - it speaks more of the versatility of Studio than my competence :). However... I got to the end of one of my build instructions and decided to delete a huge section so that I could create that section as a sub model. When I went back and clicked step 1 in the 'Build screen', the model is still 90% complete (the section I deleted has gone, which is what I wanted). Why does it not take me back to Step 1? Can I go back to where I laid the first brick so that I can edit the build as prep for the sub model creation and insertion?

Sometimes you want to pre-attach a few bricks before adding it to your (sub)model. The official LEGO instructions often do this in a small box. Is using a submodel the only way to do this in Studio? Thanks.
@BooneBuilds

Yes, you still use a sub model, but in the instruction maker, you click “convert to callout” I hope this works for you!

But is it possible to make instructions that show the pieces with an arrow from them to where they need to be inserted in? ( not sure if the new official lego instructions have this, but the ones that i had from the 90's had like 15 steps for smth very complex with the help of what i mentioned. Now smth like that now would take 60+ steps)
