Fantastic video, Ms. Brenda. I feel the use of fine hand stitching takes your work up several notches! Clients are paying for professional results. I love doing hand work!! May I add, keep the stitches small and not pulled taut. Thanks again 🙂
@BridalSewing4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely!!! Huge demo stitches are not what you want on a gown! Lol 😆 I actually thought about the fact that I should've mentioned the issue of stitch tension *after* I made the video. But, really, I was trying to just categorically go over the 6 stitches & how we use them. It's not really a masterclass on hand stitching. It would've gone from 25 mins long to 6hours. I kinda hate how long this video ended up being. I edited out whole segments because I tend to do too much of a deep dive & bore ppl. 🤷♀️🤣

Thank you for the idea for hand understitching! Sometimes it can really be more practical to run it by hands rather than doing it on a machine. But where we can use this letter\invisible stitch please?
@BridalSewing4 жыл бұрын
I use this almost daily to close up the side of a shoulder strap. I also use it to repair a seam that is threatening to split, (if it is difficult to get to.)

You may need to use a lot of pins or baste stitch first.

When you use a sewing machine do you also use upholstery thread? I thought that using upholstery thread would be bad for hand sewing or sewing machine. I was steered away from using that type of thread on fashion fabrics at my local fabric stores.
@BridalSewing4 жыл бұрын
I never use upholstery thread in my sewing machine. Fabric stores or home sewing sewing techniques have almost nothing to do with bridal sewing. It is completely different and usually cannot be compared. That being said, some of the things I sewed in the video, (like understitching) would usually just be sewn with my medium weight mara 100 gutermann thread. If I didn't specify what kind of thread should most often be used for a stitch, then it would be up to the circumstance. Upholstery thread is also much more visible for videos. You can tell how much easier it is more me to show what I am doing compared to getting the invisible thread to show up. Thank you for watching and commenting! 🤗

@angellover021714 жыл бұрын
How much hand work do you do in your dress percentage wise?
@BridalSewing4 жыл бұрын
Of course, it depends on the design. Some gowns are very embellished, have few seams, and actually have a high glue content. (PNINA TORNAI GOWNS!!! 😱) Goodness, they have sooo much glue and large stones. They have to be hand sewn on quite a bit. Other gowns that are in the mass manufactured category can often be altered completely with machine sewing except for the gather stitch at bustline if needed, and tacking the bust pads in. I even often machine tack the stabilizing tacks in the train.
@angellover021714 жыл бұрын
@@BridalSewing speaking of bust pads, can you add bust pads for larger busted women? Do those bust pads have to be made custom? Are are larger busted women steered to other types of dresses or corsets?
@BridalSewing4 жыл бұрын
@@angellover02171 that's a lot of questions!! Lol Let's see... Yes, bust pads come in all shapes & sizes. The type of pad isn't determined by size. For instance, most busty women will want shells, but some will need push-up pads because they need the lift. The steering happens in the stores/salons. I should say, it "doesn't happen... lol j/k. No, it really is a big problem sometimes, but I try to remind my stores that refer to me to be careful about what they allow a busty girl to try on. They need to explain that a busty girl needs to understand that support will be limited in a backless gown, etc
