In SEA, it is a weird mix of all 3 possibilies: bride's family pay, grooms family pay, nobody pay. Though I am aware, some have this tradition of doing what we see on the video. Though it's not real. They're only acting it out for fun, and the amount is very small. Marriage is no happiness for women, even in west women who are married lives on average by 7 years shorter life and have her unpaid labor increase by many hours weekly. Love is cheap word some men feeds to women to scam them with marriage and children, when they have to show it then they cheat, mistreat woman, leave for next best thing, throws all domestic chores on her shoulders using her like slave. I think both the song and father came from a long line of talented singers. How humiliating was the bride to strip down in from of all the guests. This showed how classless she and her family was. This raises a question in my mind. If the wedding doesn't proceed due to the grooms decision (whatever the thinking behind it) is whatever bride price paid to date refunded? If it isn't, this has the makings of a scam. Women agree to marriage, get the bride price paid up front, move the goalposts causing the groom to cancel the wedding and so walk away with the bride price paid to date. Even if the bride price is refundable, why wouldn't a brides family double the price on the day of the wedding? After all, it will cost them nothing (other than the wedding costs?) and they may even screw a few more thousand from the grooms family.

The woman from the first part: If she got to keep the agreed bride-price, she may have decided to end the wedding because she loves someone else and the money is already there. Sounds reasonable that the money was used to force a breakup, but it also seems like the bride’s family also knew since they would be the ones held accountable for the costs and damages too, especially cancelling the wedding and travel costs already spent. If the bride scammed her family, they did so with no thinking about the costs involved. The groom’s family might also have had reservations too. Or they might not have known. These kinds of weddings tend to involve 3 generations of family “accepting” the money from the groom going to the bride’s family. The couple usually don’t bear that kind of cost alone, nor does the groom pay for a home/car/diamond ring by himself. Nor is that how a typical marriage could ever work, as the belief / social expectation is to tend to aim for 21-25 years of marriage age. Ie getting married before they finish college/university or even date outside of school. Things can, do, involve the families arranging things.

Trying to lure random peoples to marry man is not love. China have this problem because for decades they under one child policy favored boys and destroyed girls so now those boys are grown but there are no women for them, those few women whose parents kept them can put their demands because supply is so low.
