I thought it was really disrespectful and thoughtless of the bride to say, "let's just let them try it on without telling them the price". She KNEW Lisa was tight on a budget; not that Lisa didn't WANT to pay more for a dress, she literally COULDN'T pay more! If you don't have the money you don't have the money; you can't just conjure up more anytime you want!

Good for the Bride’s “best friend” sticking to her budget as much as possible. And the one that wanted the higher priced dress because price didn’t matter to her, should pay the difference for the one who couldn’t or the bride should…. And it wasn’t a matter of “not wanting” to pay that much. It was a matter of “not being able to”. ….SOME people just don’t get it.

I think if the bride picks the dress, especially if it's anything over off the rack non-designer prices, she has to pay- even if it's a substitute for the bride's gift to her maids. Because the bridesmaids may not have any further use for it, especially if they don't like it. If the bridesmaids get to pick their own dresses - either one dress as a group or on their own within a set of parameters, then they can possibly discuss other options because they will pick something affordable and that they will want to wear again.

When my oldest got married she went to the local David's Bridal and chose the color. She told the bridesmaids (they were scattered) that they had to go to David's to get their dress. They could choose what dress they wanted as long as it came from David's, was the color she choose and floor length. That way they could pick out what they thought would look best on them and in the price range they could afford. They all looked great, the dresses were burgundy and the maid of honor work a beige belt on hers

My bridesmaids were comfortable spending $75 on their dress exluding alteration costs so we agreed that if the dresses were going to be over that cost, I'd cover the remainder. I have also stood for 3 other weddings where I ended up having to spend $350+ on a dress and choking back tears while leaving the store because my fridge and gas tank were going to be empty for awhile.

There's no way I'd ask for my bridesmaids to pay that much for a dang dress; and on the other hand, I'd rather decline being in the wedding (or somehow ask for a cheaper dress) than go broke and without. Sorry but I'm poverty poor and have kids now, but even before I had them there's no way I was gonna be going without to pay for a dress I'm only going to wear that once, especially if it was over say $150. When I got married I did find a dress that was $99, and all my girls was fine with that. We spoke about a budget and even if they wanted to pay more, I wouldn't of made them. Bc that's disrespectful af. And one of my girls wasn't able to pay all at once so I helped. It was the least I could do.

I stepped out of my younger sisters wedding party at the bridal shoppe. We had no selection to chance to pick. She had chosen from a fashion magazine and took us to a shoppe that had these ugly black stewardess suits, with a white neck ruffle . Anything over a size 10 was plus sized and cost 100.00 extra. So I was thinking ok I can swing 200 for this ugly thing. Nooooo, base price without the extra fee and alterations was 500.00 bucks. Crappy fabric, and looked like an old fashioned steward3ss pencil skirt and jacket. Then she announced everyone needed to buy mstching designer shoes. I asked any room to negotiate? Nope! All her still in university friends had zero problems spending that much, so I excused myself. Tons of laughing at the outfits at the wedding, quietly of course, comments about offering cups of coffee for your flight etc. So my older sisters had roles doing readings etc. They sat at a special table, I was put for punishment with everyone's grandparents at a table. Final fact, in my wedding years before she refused my choice of dress colors, and my mother paid for the dress. So i had a colour not of my choice, and she made sure to tell evryonexat my wedding she'd never wear the dress again. SO why not wear the colourci chose for my wedding since it was free to her! Ugh.

FYI - in many countries the parents of the bride purchase the bridesmaid dresses. My daughter has been a bridesmaid in both Scotland and Australia. These were not destination weddings but the home of each bride. In both of these weddings not only was the dress purchased but also shoes and hair. When my sister was married my mother paid for the bridesmaid dresses. (We live in the US.) I believe part of being a bride is to respect those you have invited to be a part of the wedding party. When I god. Arrived I asked each of my bridesmaid to wear a short teal dress. Though I did not pay for it, each of the friends could pick something that they loved and could wear again. My maid-of-honor was a single mom that financially struggled. I did pay for her dress.

When I was a bridemaid for my BFF I was thankful she didn’t even think of asking me to pay, I was living 7 zones away in Israel from the NYC area. My plane ticket alone was nearly $1,500 roundtrip. The dress ended up too big despite me having a friend measure me, but the shop had one they were able to size down (turned out it was the shop’s error, my measurements were correct and we’d given more body parts then needed 😅) but the bust had to be sewn up so my chest wasn’t on display for the ceremony (I’m wearing it in my KZbin pic)

If you’re on a tight budget, hit the clearance racks. Seriously. I found the dress that I wore as a bridesmaid at Dillard’s. I paid $45 for it. Also, if a bride isn’t willing to take into consideration what her bridesmaids can do financially, then maybe she needs to check herself. At least with my friend Shannon she told us maids what the colors were. She said to get what’s comfortable to wear and purchase.

Too much expectation for a ceremony ? Do the guests get back the money and gifts if the marriage doesn't work ?

Also, for such an important friendship, and delicate situation the bride should have discreetly spoken to her best friend on their own and promised that if the dress went over what she could manage, whether £100/150 or £200 SHE would discreetly make up the difference! Not nice either how the other bridesmaid said she could afford to pay in a way that showed up the friend that couldnt afford to. NOT nice traits in the women ,enabled by the assistant. Why not have each one get a similar style dress in the same color in their price range….why do they have to match? I’m thinking having those in your wedding who have positively impacted your life is more important than a special kind of dress…and if someone is important to you, you shouldn’t put them in an awkward financial position…after all it’s a couple of hours in one day in a lifetime they will be wearing it…. A day later no one will remember even what they had on…except MAYBE you

I was my best friends maid of honor at her wedding 16 years ago. She had 5 girls standing for her. Her colors were blue and purple. I told her i was honored to be her maid of honor, and since i was more financially stable back then, i told her i had a budget of 500.00 to spend on a bridesmaids dress. It was super easy finding dresses for the other girls. They were on the tall side and here i was, 5ft 3 in and chubby. Lol. The other girls found their dresses at the store Debs in the prom section. The dresses are extremely pretty. Sorta like a plum color. However it was harder for me because with being the maid of honor she wanted my dress to be lavender. So with only 5 months before her wedding, i lucked out. We ended up at a second hand store in our hometown. I found a dress there. It was a lavender floor length tube style dress. And it was only 86.00. I actually loved that dress, which is funny became i hate the color purple. Lol.

Bridesmaids dresses are ugly as a standard. As such, they should be as cheap as Walmart clothes. Haven't seen one single "special" dress worth more than $80, ever. I paid for the dresses my two bridesmaids wore, and they were only $25 each (1973), and the girls were able to wear them for a few years after. The ugly stuff on the market now means a lot of wasted money on flimsly fabric and "styles" that aren't able to be worn past the wedding.

I think the tradition of Bridesmaids paying for their own dresses is tacky and old fashioned. Brides should pay or help pay for those dresses. I remember that I paid for my bridesmaids dresses and for dresses for my mom & sisters and that was back in the 70’s.

If you agree to be in a wedding, you agree to pay for the dress.

Don't be a bridesmaids 😊 clearly you can't afford any of it and the bride friendship to you clearly has a budget you can't afford and she refused to pay. 😂😂😂😂 fake friends.

Or, don‘t be a bridesmaid if the bride is so selfish and doesn‘t think about the ‚friend‘ who she knows hasn‘t much money. If the bride would be a good friend she should pay if she want a expensive dress for her bridesmaid…

Or don't be a bridesmaid to someone who calls themselves your friend but doesn't understand and empathize with your budget. Not everyone can afford an expensive dress.

The bride deliberately said don’t tell them the price of it knowing one of them was not able to. If she truly wanted her friend to be apart of the day knowing her financial situation she should either figure out a way around for her dream wedding or just own up to being a shitty friend and ask her to step down😊

Including in-laws is a nice way to help give everyone the sense of being part of the same family.

8-months pregnant before you got married at the first marriage. Sounds like nothing is sacred anymore

Well, Holy Tamoly, Batgirl. How many judges you fit in your britches today? Lest ye be judged alone, I'll join you, 'k?: a) 8 months pregnant = She kept the baby. Does that score 1 point?; b) Pregnancy is not spontaneous combustion = takes 2 to make 1 sacred. Not sure the sacred score. 3) I'm more aware so few lessons learned in 2 altar trips. Hiding a dress price tag, no intention to help pay = pre-meditated on purpose entrapment? Mmm, pitiful. I'll skip on, hop to: Bridesmaids dresses are the devil's workshop. Would anyone choose, wear, +/or pay $300 for that same frock if it wasn't a wedding shoppe til ya drop? Does it spark joy? Or is it destined for a future Halloween?
