Wow Jake, you and I are the exact same age (not even a week apart) and you still have your grandmother! That is amazing. My grandfather taught me to fly and ignited my lifelong love of planes and flying, because of him I was a Marine corps aviator and now I fly cargo, all over the world. I have so much I would love to tell him. Enjoy your Grandma while you still can Jake.

Jacob was an everyday man, doing everyday things, but one day he discovered a hat, and fabulous secret powers were revealed to him the day he held aloft that magic hat and said... By the power of Zoltar...I HAVE THE POWER" and that day he transformed into The Carpetbagger saving the planet from boredom and introducing us to a World of Wonder.

Being from Chicago, I'm a little bit obsessed with the Colombian Exposition, and am proud that the world's first Ferris wheel was in my home town. Even if the bridge isn't from the wheel, it's still from the same foundry, which is pretty cool. Also, you should never go on an Adventure without your Hat. Safe travels and happy wanderings my friend.

You shouldn't be sensitive about balding at all!!! That's the style now. Millions of people shave off their hair to get that look!!! Your right in style, but I do love your hat, even the pith helmet looks cool, cuz I am a total hat person and have a trademark straw hat full of buttons just like yours almost, so I totally get it!!; I love when you go inside those photo ops at the parks where you insert your face n you stick the hat on top of the cut out!! That is always a hoot!!!

You are so fortunate to still have your Grandmother and Mom . I am glad you are spending some time with them. Enjoy them while you can. I remember the old playgrounds with the metal slides that would heat up and burn any bare skin in the summer. Loved hearing the stories behind the pins. You are a great storyteller! Agree with your theory on the bridge. I looked up the Ferris wheel immediately and it seems very different structurally and much bigger. Of course people would not have pictures at hand at the time to easily compare and a legend was born.

Your hat is the Carpetbagger's trademark.....it is a part of you. Years ago I was dating a dude who took me with his family to their vacation spot at a lake in Wisconsin. I appreciated their generosity, of course, but we didn't last long after that. Lie around the lake and fish. For a week. "Where are all the historic sites, battlefields, amusement parks, gift shops, quirky restaurants, natural formations and yes, museums?! You call this a vacation? The supermarket is full of fish and I have a bed at home!" No, I said none of that, but I got good at going to a quiet corner, stuffing my fist in my mouth and turning what would have been "AARRGGHH!" into "mnfgghh." ...I guess that's why I appreciate Jacob's vlogs so much.

I if remember correctly, I think I learned somewhere that Walt Disney’s dad helped assemble the Ferris wheel for the worlds fair and this sparked his interest in rides and attractions and later built Disneyland and Disney world. Also the bridge story reminds me of how for the longest time everyone thought that the roller coaster Highroller at Valley Fair was actually the Pippin from the old amusement park that is now my home town (I think it was called Excelsior Park, it closed in the late 50s early 60s). This was because the pippin and highroller had a very similar design. But years of research concluded that the pippin was completely demolished when the park was closed and torn down and that highroller and the pippin were made in different years from different manufacturers based off tags and emblems and other official info about the rides creation, plus they had slightly different materials used in their construction that further debunk that belief. Now the only thing I can’t debunk and no one else seems to, is that the old trolley that used to cross the lake and carry passengers (its a fairly sizable lake, its White Bear Lake) to and from the camp grounds to the amusement park ever existed as well as was sunk to the bottom of the lake instead of being scraped with the track when no longer needed. Also maybe when you get your car back they may have found your pin and give it to you, that would be if they decided to do a deep clean on your interior to make it nice and like you have a brand new car, sometimes they do that as a slight curtesy. If not it should still be there if they didn’t mess around in the interior too much. I really hope to go to Knott’s sometime and visit the first ever camp snoopy (the sister location at MOA closed years back) and attend the boysenberry festival.

On the plaque there is a picture showing it being assembled in 1904. They did not dynamite the original ferris wheel until 1906 so if the date on the photo is correct that means it could be steel from the 1893 Expositions buildings but not from the ferris wheel. Love your channel by the way keep posting neat stuff. I have seen farmers recycle stuff that ends up looking nothing like what it looked like originally just because they got it cheap and when they have free time they need a project to pass the time.

Nice investigative work. It's definitely not the Ferris wheel though, because those pieces look nothing like the Ferris wheel from Chicago. They don't look exactly like the struts from the machinery hall in the photo, but definitely closer to that. I could see them being arches from A building at Chicago, or just something from the foundry's catalogue. As for that hat, I hear ya'... I used to have magnificent, Robert Smith, Goth hair, but my genetic destiny decreed that I should now wear hats forevermore.

I looked at photos of the original Ferris wheel and your photo of the machinery hall and the structure definitely looks different to my eye, even if they augmented it for the bridge. Maybe they could have used some of the steel but it would no doubt be safer and easier to engineer the bridge from scratch to meet the structural needs of the span it crosses along with the weight requirements. But who knows because they probably didn't have regulations around a structure the size of the bridge in those days. Lots of if's! Having said that I am still glad you brought it to your viewers attention because urban legends like this have always fascinated me.

On the topic of urban legends growing up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, there is this one urban legend. I always remember hearing it's surrounds the CN Tower. This is something really crazy! So during the construction of the CN Tower Legends believe somebody who was working on the elevator shaft. I believe the story states shaft number 3 cuz there's three shafts that go up to the main tower. Well, technically now there's two because the third one is now a service elevator. But anyway, so during the construction of one was shafts, a worker's harness failed, causing him to fall the entirety down to the basement and dies. Some people believe he haunts the visitor area. Some people think he hunts the third shaft and a certain time of the day or at night. If you're in the building, you will suddenly hear somebody scream on the top of their lungs from the shaft. Now it's just an urban legend that I heard as a kid to you know discourage people from being stupid in the CN Tower
