This channel follows a format: "Join Henk-Jan, whilst he cruises with Lady Liselot".
That's it. This automatically means: no boat tour and no boat jobs. These subjects do not fit the format. Waarom ik alles in het Engels doe?
Omdat ik video's kijk van Fransen, Denen, Noren, Spanjaarden, Portugezen, Duitsers én heel veel Engelstaligen die allemaal Engels lullen en ook bootjesmensen / liveaboards zijn. Want alleen dan kan je je ervaring wereldwijd delen. En wat blijkt? Mijn video's worden in 127 landen bekeken (zie S03/E01 voor de lijst). Veel van mijn kijkers en abonnees zijn Engelstaligen die mijn video's helemaal top vinden, omdat ze óf familie hebben uit Nederland, of hier jaren geleden zijn geboren en door omstandigheden nu elders op de wereld wonen. En, dat ik dan Engels spreek met een accentje (net als de Fransen, Denen, Noren, Spanjaarden, Portugezen, Duitsers overigens) dan interesseert hen dat geen reet.
Weet je dat Nederlandse ondertiteling aan kan zetten? Doorgaans zo'n 4 uur nadat de video is gepubliceerd. Klik op de video, en kies uit de iconen die rechtsonder verschijnen dan voor [ondertiteling] en kies daar voor Nederlands. Dan wordt zelfs mijn steenkolen Engels (knap he van die jongens en meisjes KZbin) vertaald naar Nederlandsch.

Dear Henk. I am late but better late than never. Have a very happy, succssfull and healthy new year. May all the troubles that you - (and us, following Lady Liselot) - went thru turn into opportunities. I have always believed that problems like that make us become better human beings. In 2020 I lost my main engine, and also the generator due to bad fuel. I was with my wife 80 miles offshore at 03:30, February 12th, trying to run away from a cold front coming from Argentina via inland. This is always bad news in Brazil. At 08:00 we maneged to start the engine again but we could not go over 1100 RPM from the 2300 available, 3.5 to 4 knots when we were lucky. 31 hours later we arrived to the nearest port with dirty thanks and a cut in my left knee that took 9 stiches. Other than that, we were happy. We wish you all the best to you and we cheer for your dream to keep turning into reality.

Hoi Henk, Gezellig dat je er weer bent met het vervolg van jou avontuur naar de Belgische kust vertrek punt Tholen met weer eens stormachtig weer jij houd wel van een uitdaging 😉Tot dat je er achter dat eigenlijk iets te hard waait ivm met de brug die open moet en dan is het best lastig manoeuvreren in die sluis. Hallo Ab, het is fijn om hier weer te zijn, maar ik moet enorm wennen aan de herrie die er constant is. Snelweg, trein, aanvliegroute Kaagbaan. In O, was er alleen op vrijdagavond herrie als er 3 jongens met een brommer zonder uitlaat door het dorp scheurden, totdat iemand op z'n vingers vloot en dan was alles weer stil. Het is echt een enorm verschil.

Scherp. Velen denken dat het filmmateriaal van 2023 is, maar het is echt al in 2022 opgenomen. Zo heb ik van nog 32 andere reizen materiaal liggen, waar ik nog niets mee heb gedaan. Kan ik nu mooi gebruiken, in tijden dat we met een paar dagen in het ijs vast liggen. Op Netflix kijk je ook films van 2010 en jonger of ouder. Als we het maar naar onze zin hebben, nietwaar.

Sharp eye. The rope hanging out is never single, always double (like a loop) and always secured with one turn on the bollard. In 1999 I ruined a trip because of that stupidity, so I learned my lesson.

Just ego and the bracket ;-) the fenders did their job but with the cam was a little out to much. I was very happy with the solution they suggested. Clever thinking. They also could have said: “not possible, you are not in a hurry, drop anchor and wait (and without zero speed stabs this would not been a problem at all in 5m water - hahaha)

Ik loop tegenwoordig elke dag in mijn oranje overall, de hoeveelheid soorten gereedschap aan boord doet niet onder voor de rekken bij de bouwmarkt en de kisten met spareparts hebben inmiddels een troetelnaam. De waarde van al die spullenboel overstijgt die van een knappe gezinsauto.

Well... it's a 4th hand foldable ladder almost every Dutch household has. (www.houtenladders.nl/houten-plateautrap-grenen.html) I adjusted it so it fits Lady Liselot. Because it sticks out I have to pay attention in marina's with pilings near the mooring, but because of the angle of the stairs it's way easier to climb with two bags of groceries' and even a foldable bike than the 'stick to the hull' ladders you see elsewhere.

Are you noticing any difference with the engine noise/handling of Lady Liselot with the reconditioned Perkins?

Nope. Same sounds, response and blue smoke. In 2022 I had the nozzles of my injectors checked and people said “she will not smoke again” but she showed the same blue smoke. As now. So I guess it’s the quality of the fuel I buy at the station.

De beste wensen voor 2024! Volgens mij lag je tot nu toe altijd bij Kempers Watersport in de winter, in welke haven lig je nu dan?

Omdat ik zo vaak voor anker lag, was het zonde van het geld om voor een ligbox te betalen waar ik geen gebruik van maakte. Dus ik heb 1 zomer en 1 winter bij Kempers gelegen. Verder steeds voor anker. Storm Henk lag ik bijvoorbeeld ook op de Kaag voor anker. Mooi kunnen oefenen met ankeren en de snubber. Dus lig nu ook op de Kaag. Kids wonen in de buurt en komen wekelijks buurten. Dat is de enige reden waarom ik hier lig, anders was ik veel meer onderweg of op andere plekken.

@@marcoopdam9598 gewoon in de havens. Zelfs als het kraakt dat het vriest heeft menige haven wel een watertappunt. Zuinig zijn met water helpt, uren douchen zoals men aan de wal wel gewend is, is alleen mogelijk als je heel veel water aan boord hebt.

Je ziet "TravelBoast". Het is een app. Je typt het vertrek punt in, dan de destination en zodra de app de lijn tussen 2 punten heeft getrokken, kan je zelf routepunten op die routelijn aanbrengen en aanpassen, zodat het een route wordt die ergens op lijkt. Dan de lengte van de te maken video aanpassen, de afmetingen en 'renderen' maar.

Ik zie dat je vaak vaart op 1 motor zet je dan de motor uit of laat je die lopen? En waarom op 1 motor is dat zuiniger?

Die vraag wordt veel gesteld, dus ik plak het antwoord dat ik daarvoor altijd opgeef: Adding a 2nd engine cost 100% fuel burn (at least 10-15liter in a non-current water way @ € 1.85/liter as I write this) per hour extra, but only giving 25% more speed. So the calculation is simple. I only use two engines for maneuvering near bridges and in port. I run them separately to keep the running hours in balance.

@@MVLadyLiselotThat is the perfect strategy. We used to limit throttle when using one engine to 75% as you torque up the gearbox earlier when one shaft is trailing. A good example of exploiting the cube law - especially ‘profitable’ on a long passage.
