In the moment when she threatened him he probably wasn't too worried because they'd gone toe to toe many times before and he feels like he is an even match for her. people forget that Katara felt the most for her mother's death because her mother basically died for her, she was the last one to see her alive, and she never got help in time... it's not that Sokka didn't love her as much as Katara did, that's just her rage and anger speaking instead of explaining her guilt and grief.
@bch7905Ай бұрын
Right, I see a LOT of reactors and the general fandom criticize Katara harshly for that statement and while it came across horribly, she isn't even wrong. She's not even saying Sokka loved their mom less, he just didn't have the same love and was not affected the same way. Sokka openly admits that he relies on Katara's mothering and struggles to visualize their mom, because Katara quite literally began emulating the missing mother figure in their family to help them endure their grief. She barely had time to really process her own grief without shouldering the responsibility left behind, she really had to grow up quickly by the age of 8! Sokka (and the others) were given that allowance to grieve up until their dad left later, and even then we learn from the first episode that Katara still plays role of caregiver, and it becomes her role in their friend group as well. I don't think she per se resents that she has morphed into that role, but her mother's death shifted her identity dramatically, so at that point her innocence is lost and she can never be "just a kid" anymore. That's why she's so hurt and vengeful, because Yoh Rha did more than kill their mother, but he ended her own life in a sense.

There’s a theory that the Southern Raiders didn’t take Katara’s mother as a prisoner when she offered because the Fire Nation may have viewed waterbenders from the Southern Water Tribe as especially dangerous, due to rumors of 'unknown waterbending techniques'-likely referring to bloodbending-that had been used on Fire Nation soldiers. After Hama escaped from the Fire Nation prison, waterbenders were no longer captured, and firebenders were warned never to engage them during a full moon, regardless of skill level. The bloodbending incident may have served as a cautionary tale for firebenders invading water tribes, highlighting the potential dangers they could face. Even Admiral Zhao spent significant time researching how to prevent waterbenders from drawing power from the moon.

God I love these episodes SO MUCH. I’ll never not laugh out loud to ember island players and You could legit pick apart the layers, parallels and deeper meanings in southern raiders for DAYS. I think most importantly not only is it an amazing episode for Katara and her growth, but it maintains her agency and autonomy throughout. It was kataras story through and through and it was HER who decided for herself at the end and “ moved on” in some capacity, but it also has a beautiful parallel with her and aang. The same way she helped aang through his rage and anger in the avatar state when he found Gyatsos body or when Confronting the sandbenders who stole appa he did the same thing for Katara here. He never invalidated her or told her she was wrong for feeling the way she did. But like Katara did for him he pointed out she was in pain and rage and WASNT acting like herself, lashing out cruelly at her loved ones NOT unlike Jet. It’s just an incredibly mature and nuanced conversation, and the way it parallels around with Zuko who STILL sees violence as the solution to his problems, a lesson from his family and nation he NEEDED to see directly contradicted by Katara sparing Yhon Ra and admitting aang was right at the end. The growth and depth in this episode alone is better than some series have in their ENTIRE runs for their Characters😤👏

@bch7905Ай бұрын
The creators basically admitted that they ran into an issue at the end when they realized they didn't want Aang to kill Ozai, which I guess is fair. I think he fully expected to knock him out and imprison him, but with Zuko's revelation in the finale of Ozai's plan, it becomes a more pressing matter of "oh, so this guy might actually need to die." It's why I enjoy that Zuko enters the group when he does because he is a product of Ozai's cruelty and basically gives him a reality check. This is just my personal theory based on the writing consistencies but it seemed like they kinda had to have Aang be an alternative voice to Zuko for Katara in order to extend the philosophy to someone who is the active oppressor. And it's always built up to it-- Jet was a victim, but he would harm innocent people; Yon Rha was cruel, but he is following a mission in a ruthless war; now you have Ozai, who has the power to stop the war, but is the cause of continuous oppression.

Critics were negative toward the production, calling it merely "watchable".[2] During its short time in the theater, however, this play truly made an impression. Some of the audience members liked it so much that they even dressed up like their favorite characters. It was not uncommon to see several "Prince Zukos" excitedly watching the play. Team Avatar was aghast at how unfaithfully they were portrayed, particularly Aang, who was shocked at the fact that a woman was playing him, and Zuko, who felt that the play portrayed him as "totally stiff and humorless". Toph, however, had a positive opinion on the casting, especially with her character, but did not like the play overall. At the end of the production, they declared it to be horrible, though Sokka commented that the effects were decent and and like really like the katara don't forgive but decided he was too pitiful to kill

I think it’s really smart how they planned the Zuko field trip episodes: - Aang and Zuko’s relationship is most important and most plot relevant so they go first. Aang also most readily accepts Zuko. - Zuko and Sokka have the least interaction so get a two parter. Also despite being the weakest Team Avatar members they hold their own against Azula. Sokka’s readiness to accept Zuko is in between Aang and Katara. - Katara’s trust is the hardest to earn so they go last and have the most serious adventure. It takes much more effort for Katara to show forgiveness.

I love the recap play, and honestly, it perfectly portrays how I feel about Katara, she is a super annoying emotional crybaby who compares the death of her mother to the literal genocide of the Airbenders (along with everyone else's massive trauma) and she is overly/hypocritically preachy!

I'm ready to join Patreon as soon as Korra drops. That's my level of commitment. I just finished the season 3 finale of Korra on Patreon on another reaction channel, and it's been a fantastic journey, though I've watched it many times already.

I like the nuanced and adult take on 'forgiveness'. Yes, it's best (often for oneself and also for society in general) to forgive the 'small things', to forget small (possibly unintentional ) slights. Most things done as children and young teens (MILD bullying, selfishness, etc) can easily fall into this category. But things like rape and murder, large scale theft, (in relation to the economics of the victim, ten dollars can be alot to a poor person): these should be up to the victim and shouldn't even be considered absent some effort to earn said forgiveness. Zuko admitted his wrong doings and had set about trying to apologize and make things as right as he could. He had arguably earned forgiveness and I'm glad Katara gave it to him. Yon Ra, on the other hand, was only about saving his own skin. He never really even tried to earn forgiveness and I'm glad Katara did not give it to him. And it was those choices: to punish or forgive or neither the man who killed her mother that Katara needed to have.
