They liked Season 1, but you can tell it hasn’t hooked them yet, Season 2 (especially the later half) you can see the hooks starting to wedge themselves in and now Season 3, the hooks are completely latched on now and it’s not letting go 😂😂 love to see how people gradually get so invested because the writing is just that good

Even if Mai told Azula that her beloved one and her uncle were on that gondola, it won't excuse herself. If Mai & Ty Lee fight back after disabling Azula, I believe they could handle all the remaining guards, releasing all the prisoners and work together to escape the boiling rock.

@@Nanika-px7 Mai used a lot of her weapons just rescuing Zuko. I doubt she has anything left in the tank. She knew it was futile to continue fighting. They'd have to subdue all the guards, secure the gondola, and some how keep anyone from stopping it while they made their escape. Not a chance.

@@IamnotJohnFordWRONG, Mai is one the most agile non benders training all her life with Azula and Ty Lee in the Royal academy for girls, she could just hand to hand combat or grab the knifes she threw, Ty Lee is the best non bender in the entire Avatar verse and she took the entire Elite Ba Sing De earthbenders team, they didn't even could see her when she blocked all of their chi and a most important point here is how Ty Lee defeat Azula with two single punchs here, she could do it with all those guards too, you clearly are underestimating them.

If you look at Azula's movements right before Ty Lee used her pressure points thingy, you can tell she was about to straight-up execute Mai. Ty Lee realized it and immediately reacted to save her. Ultimately both Mai and Ty Lee were only "friends" with Azula because they were terrified of her. But Ty Lee and Mai were actual friends. And now Azula has no one. The only people she may have trusted, or at least could rely on, betrayed her. All that's left of friends and family is her father, but she's his subordinate, the ruler of her nation, and we've never really seen them have any kind of meaningful familial relationship the way we have with Zuko and Iroh. She does the fire lord's bidding but does he even love her, or just use her as a weapon against his enemies? She's psychotic, but she is still just a child, and her world is falling out from under her. It's got to take a toll on her emotionally and mentally. This is where her sanity really starts to slip.

@@yesimarangel Well since bending is martial arts, the actual moves are entirely consistent across the series, so if you've been paying attention to the fights previously you can tell exactly what she's doing.

Azula confessed in the Amber Island episode that her mother loved Zuko more than her. When Mai said "I love Zuko more than i fear you", she kinda ignited Azula's childhood trauma. I'm sure she was ready to kill Mai right in there and she would do if Ty Lee hadn't bloked her. In Boiling Rock, Sokka and the others weren't the only ones who escaped from the prison, Mai and Ty Lee also went against Azula and freed themselves as prisoners of her. Also, Back to Ba-Sing-Se, Azula's speech to the Earth King was a foreshadowing:"It's terrible when you can't trust the closest people to you." It's the best cartoon ever! 💕

For those whom didn't pay attention, Suki being in prison is the out come from the Azula vs Suki encounter in APPA's LOST DAYS. To think that fans had to wait nearly a year and a half for the out come, huh??

Zuko is the crown prince of the fire nation , not just her bf, so Mai actually showed strong loyalty to her country by saving Zuko. Azula wants the power , so by getting rid of Zuko she becomes next in line, she saw Mai's move as a direct challenge to her goals I bet . Just like her father she's a dangerous younger sibling to have .

Some of Zuko's moves are already incorporating the Dancing Dragons, and this is the first time he's affected Azula's flames. Usually he tries to deflect or dodge but this time he completely dissipates them.

He's significantly more defensive and his moves are more fluid too. Now that he understands dancing as the core of firebending, it comes naturally to him

The look on Ty Lee’s face during the tense confrontation between Mai and Azula was that of a child when parents argue. Psychologically a long, long fuse has been lit in Azula’s mind after that betrayal It still amazes me how the writers can apply comic relief in unlikely scenes. team Sokka’s attempt to start a riot and how it’s really done cracks me up😂

The thing you have to remember for the “rematch” on the gondola is that Sukki has been training like a beast in prison so she isn’t the same as before and Zuko has learned the secret of Firebending so he is better as well. It’s truly a great match up at this point.

Ty Lee's betrayal is something they've been setting up right from the first appearances of Mai and Ty Lee. It's one of my all-time favorite story turns. I'd like to note that I don't really see it as a betrayal. Ty Lee does not want Azula to hurt Mai, so she acts. It's not an issue of a lack of loyalty to Azula. It's strictly to stop her from hurting Mai. This won't stop Azula from seeing it as an enormous betrayal. I love noting that the events of this episode did not involve my 3 favorite characters, Katara, Aang, and Iroh. Toph is yet another great character who was not there for those events. GOOD. SHOW.

just for the record: fire benders can’t all just fly whenever they want. what azula did was more akin to a halo grenade jump. if she could fly, she wouldn’t have needed the handcuffs to zipline or the other gondola to get back

An interesting note, after his and Aang's visit to the Sun Warrior temple, Zuko no longer grunts when firebending, or at the very least, not as much. "Firebending comes from the breath. Not the muscles."

You mentioned you were surprised about them taking a few more episodes away from Aang towards the end here, but as youve seen with the next episodes, they took a few episodes to really cement Zuko into the group and give him some much needed redemption time. I think its very necessary and ends up being some of the best episodes of the season imo.

Now for my usual post about the betrayal of Mai and Ty Lee. It's NOT a betrayal. They are privledged slaves/prisoners of Azula. Prisoners escape and slaves revolt. Ty Lee was essentially Shanghaied on pain of death. Mai is smarter and knows to just do whatever Azula says with a smile on her face. There are a couple of time Ty Lee tells Mai they need to do something even though Azula isn't around. You can tell Ty Lee is afraid of Azula. Mai defies her a couple of times because Azula isn't around, and she can get away with it. Azula has no friends. Her only allies are servants and soldiers. Not a friend amongst them. Azula allowed two repressed but hot blooded teenage lovers to get back together, and didn't foretell they might form an unbreakable bond. She miscalculated because she simply doesn't understand love.

Yes, it's an escape (attempt), not really a betrayal, but the way Azula would view it is absolutely as a betrayal. She doesn't understand friendship, but she nonetheless thinks of those two other girls as her friends, and certainly they know enough to let her think that they like her. So to her, this was an unthinkable act of disloyalty. It shatters her world. Her first reaction is to try and execute Mai outright, and then when Ty Lee also turns on her, she's shocked and horrified, she just wants them to go away so she doesn't have to look at them and think about them ever again. But of course, it's still going to nag at her, and tear at the fabric of her mind.

@@fakecubed There is a parallel that I never realized between Zuko and Azula. Both Azula and Zuko are heavily influenced by Ozai. Both are isolated and insulated by their stations. It's not until they travel that they both experience and have to deal with other cultures, different views, the victims of their policies, relationships other than subservient interactions, and emotions. Zuko has struggled with it for years. Now, Azula gets to struggle with it. Azula has suppressed her emotions since day one. Blind Loyalty and Nationalism does that. Mai and Ty Lee were indeed friends in her eyes. Now she sees the truth. And, truth can be harsh.

@@IamnotJohnFord Doing a lot of really undeserved work for Mai here. She's not some scared, timid person just going along with things out of fear. She's the member of the trio that is the first one to go for the kill in the majority of fights, including the very first time she encounters Aang and co. I wish people wouldn't just try to sweep Ty Lee and Mai's actual characterization under the the rug simply because Azula holds a position of power over them. Even before Azula shows up Mai is shown as entirely callous. She's the daughter of a governor lording over an entire city of prisoners/slaves with complete disregard for them, as if she's just a regular teen being forced to go on some casual family outing. She is literally complaining about how annoying it is to be there before Azula arrives, and when Aang first stops the assassination attempt on Mai's family, she's not angry about the attempt or scared for her family, she's DELIGHTED that she gets the chance to fight and kill people and then sighs in bored when they get away. She wasn't forced to go with Azula, she was happy to. She didn't give up her brother because she secretly loves him lots and was scared for her life, she's just a really terrible sister that doesn't care much for her immediate family.

I've always been frustrated with Azula rocketing up to the cable. Using fire to make a larger jump I could understand. One quick burst at the start, and suddenly you're propelled at an inhuman jump. But the sustained burn like an actual rocket never made sense to me.
