It's funny - George III went mad (not that anyone's been able to decide concretely what was wrong with him, there was a theory for a long time but now people are arguing against it) and lost America (or the colonies as they were called) and yet in the kings and queens of England deck of cards I have he's in the regular deck while George IV is one of the three jokers (alongside Edward VIII and someone standing in water). From what I've heard of George IV when he first was declared Regent he was known as 'gentleman George' and was seen as a slender and cultured figure but by the time he was finally coronated had become fat and was basically seen as a living joke - by all accounts no where near as stupid as he was in Blackadder the Third but still basically described as "a fat flatulant git", plus his coronation for some reason cost nearly 3 times what his father's had.

@@liambudd9834 It is to us, but keep in mind that married people often barely new each other and lived separate lives. The series is, in many ways, far too informal to be historically accurate. In practice, Anthony's siblings and mother would have addressed him as 'Bridgerton'. Simon might have used Anthony's first name, though men preferred nicknames over first names amongst each other. I guess they didn't go for historical accuracy because the audience would be weirded out.

The whole thing with Anthony and Berbrooke was pretty poorly done. It really makes no sense at all. They just make Anthony seem like a moron to not realize how awful Berbrooke is. I honestly thought that he had some arrangement to sell Daphne off to him. They have Anthony scare away every other suitor besides Berbrooke than rush into a marriage agreement with him. Makes no sense at all.
