Anthony’s objections actually make complete sense. It’s made obvious in the books that all of the Bridgerton’s consider Pen as one of them. She’s allowed (as is Felicity) basic free rein in the house. Anthony even walks Pen home and has nice, brotherly conversations with her. I’m actually so happy they included this bc the closeness of Pen and the family isn’t as pronounced in the show as the books.

Agree 100% on the nuance - I genuinely understand the viewpoints of Penelope, Colin and Eloise. They all have valid feelings in this situation. Honestly, aside from Simon's Dad in S1, there aren't really any true villains (except maybe Lord and Lady Cowper).

I'm so glad you mentioned the lack of nuance with the fandom, it's been exhausting, like are all these critics such perfect humans who never lied, pretended to be someone they are not, or acted in a vindictive way? I don’t know if it’s intentional or not buy I love that this season is exploring the sort of arrogance that comes with a friends to lovers trope. The characters in this relationship usually have this idea that they know each other well enough to marry as soon as they confess their love for each other, but the truth is they haven’t gotten to know each other to that level yet. There’s just something so…delicious about exploring that dynamic and the arrogance that comes with that.

Hope you feel better you are a trooper! So excited for the Colin analysis!!! He is one of the more complex character and on every rewatch of the show i find something new about him! One thing i kind of missed and only realized recently is that Colin lowkey (highkey) has a substance abuse problem in season 2! He is drinking in most scenes, and kind of drowns his sorrows in it! He almost uses it as a coping mechanism bc everytime he talks about his purpose and how he feels lost he is drinking! When that fails, he trays out a new personality in S3 as another coping mechanism. I truly hope the writers do him justice in part 2 and delve into his journals to really highlight his struggles because while I get him so deeply I can understand why his character is lost on the General Public (or more like on people who arent insane and have not rewatched the show 1000 times) .

Here are my thoughts: Colin: I agree that he is going to feel lost because he feels like he needs to protect Penelope. However, he might also be struggling with his life purpose. He may see that Penelope has found her purpose in Whistledown, but he struggles to find his and that might create some resentment. What he needs to understand is that the reason she can take care of herself is because she has had to. She didn’t have a loving family to rely on like he did. He needs to make her understand that he is never going to leave her, that he is her partner, and that she can depend on him. Penelope: She has had Portia dripping poison in her ear all her life. She has always felt that the only one she can truly depend on is herself. She also feels that if she tells Colin about Whistledown he is going to make her give up her dreams, ie Portia poison. Colin gave her what she always needed by sticking up for her in front of her mom. She needs to trust in Colin’s and realize she is not alone anymore. Hopes: What I want is for Penelope to encourage Colin’s writing, he will then have a purpose and he will be more supportive of her endeavors and I want Colin to get her far away from Portia, when she is away from Portia and realizes that Colin doesn’t want to control her but wants to love and support her, she will be a lot happier. I feel that these two have the possibility to one of the strongest marriages if not strongest marriage of the Bridgerton clan if they can understand each others needs and support each other. what do you think?

The comments on Hyacinth & Anthony have me pining for a side plot for them next(?) season where she (and Gregory!) struggle with their place when Anthony becomes a father! He’s all those babies ever had besides their mom (the others being real big sibs vs parents) and it would be PRECIOUS to have that as their introduction into the show limelight + to see Anthony processing he’s got this fathering thing halfway down already because his firstborn isn’t his first. It’s his THIRD proper child, because Greg and Hyacinth are his firsts!!! 😭💕

Actually, Eloise would be his "first", considering she was like 5 when Edmund died, at least in the book and there is a really beautiful moment between her and Anthony that I'm hoping will be taken in consideration by the writters for her season. When she says "so many times you were my father when you should've simply be my brother" and I think it's a really well done set up for their relationship, because what she has with him is less playful like with the other siblings and more "obedience", respect as like an authoritarian figure and drives them apart a little bit which helps Eloise's character perceptions in parenthood.

I think the main issues people are having is that because of past seasons build up Colin's arc is a lot more subtle compared to his brothers. Probably cause this season is kinda focused more in penelope than him.

I have a theory! The 'spicy' scene we get a glimpse of in the trailer will not be the mirror scene, it will be their first time scene. I think the beginning of that scene might play out similarly to the 'mirror scene' in the book, where he describes the fantasy then says 'later'. THEN later on after the Whistledown reveal is cleared up between them, we will get the ACTUAL mirror scene!!

That's what I like to think too ! I also think it makes makes sense that Anthony specifically didnt know/made that comment! I think the three people that were likely to be the least surprised were Mama Bridgerton, Eloise and Maybe Benedict bc they attended almost all the balls up until this point this season. Mama Bridgerton's reaction is great, eloise's reaction makes sense given the circumstances, and im really hoping that scene with Lady Arnold and Benedict will go along the lines of her asking him if this was completely out of the blue and for him to say something like "im shocked it happened now but not surprised bc they always have seemed to seek each other out". Anthony has been away this season, last season he was too focused on his own stuff (understandably so) and in season one he was focused on the sienna/daphne situation. The way the brother scene is cut in this trailer leads me to believe it was part of a longer conversation and im hoping they touch on Colin's cluelessness to his own feelings!

Yes, I definitely hope the scene with the ABC brothers is long enough and substantial. I agree with you, I want Anthony and Benedict to ask Colin about his own cluelessness, and see the brothers having a nice long talk together. Of course we love the romance part, but the sibling scenes are something we are all looking for because we love this family and their interactions so much. Very interesting this idea of lady Arnold asking Benedict if he had any clue about this relationship, I'd like to see that happen.

I have a feeling when the clips of announcement card trays come out and surround Polin on the dance floor, it may be during their engagement party, or the next ball event after that? Penelope hears people’s reactions, becomes upset, walks away from the crowd to process in private. Colin observes her behaviour in that moment and finally suspects that Pen is Lady Whistledown. Everyone is dying to know who she is, but Pen isn't acting "normally". Maybe that is the extra thought behind his smile when she says 'I have always loved you Colin' in the church. I really hope they have a proper heart to heart conversation before the wedding, so they can fully enjoy the celebrations... I hope that weight is finally lifted before she walks down the aisle.

Love your reaction. I agree about wanting them to really hash it out and it doesn't seem like they will. I don't want them to just move right past the fact that she has always loved him. That news would really affect sweet sensitive Colin. And I wish she would address all the times he has unintentionally hurt her. I did not love that apology in part 1. Mostly, I just hate that so much of this "romantic" love story is being made to be about Whistledown. We love the history they have and so much of it should be talked about but there will be no time for it because of the Whistledown of it all. Like I'm tired. Let them be happy and love each other, please. Your Bridgerton reactions are the absolute best of them all.

For me, it feels like the last bit of the trailer where Penelope is in dark green may mirror the book where she had ‘retired’ whistledown, but Cressida reveals that she is whistledown. And not wanting Cressida, her constant bully over the years, to take the one thing Penelope is so proud of accomplishing, she publishes her denial that it is Cressida. In the book it appears early at their engagement party, and when Colin already knows she’s LW, so maybe that’s why he looks so upset. In the book he wants her to be safe and she’s put herself back in the firing line.

Sammy, a few comments from an old lady! Everyone forgets Marina tried to trap Colin into marring her. Penelope begged her to choose someone else to marry. Marina then tells Penelope I know you love Colin but he will never love you. Penelope did what she had to do to save Colin from this mistake. Yes, it was harsh, but justified IMO. With Eloise, she was taking chances going to the bad side of town. Penelope tried to warn her several times. Eloise did what she wanted to do. The Queens footman saw Eloise leave Anthony's wedding and followed her to the print shop. The Queen then suspected Eloise as LW. Again IMO Penelope did what she had to do to save Eloise from herself. Sorry, everyone thinks Penelope did horrible things writing about Marina and Eloise but she had valid reasons. I loved this trailer! I love your discussion on Bridgerton! I suspect the discovery of Pen’s secret will come when she submits her last edition to say good bye to LW. The Cowper thing will happen, then at the wedding and not the engagement Pen’s rebuttal will take place & the wedding will have the consequences of the engagement in the book. Presuming they follow the rules of the ton at that time. Colin confessing to his brothers his intimacy with Pen will mean he could never back out without complete dishonour. Totally ruinous for him & Pen could sue him for a breach of promise. All good fun.

It's good to see you sammy 🤗 For your video priorities I would prefer to get the recaps of the other episodes of part 1 first. I can wait for the Colin character analysis after part 2. Your idea to make this video before part 2 is released so that people would change their mind about Colin is highly commendable. I have a lot of respect for you having this idea. But alas I fear a lot of people's state of mind right now is not very open to welcome a change of mind 😔 (it kinda joins with the immaturity of a part of the fandom that you mentioned in the video) because everyone's on the edge of their sanity waiting for part 2 for one, and those who have decided that part 1 was crap (and for many won't give solid explanations as to detail why they think that way) will keep dissing. Waiting after the season has finished is probably a better option as we will have the full arc for Colin, and people can come to your video in the future when the situation will have cool down, with a more level-headed mind. But again, I completely understand why you wished to do it before part 2, and I absolutely love the idea you have in mind with it. It makes me appreciate you and your channel all the more. And if you end up setting this video as your top priority I am totally fine with it. omg THANK YOU for talking about the fandom needing to look at eloise with more nuance. i've seen so much "eloise is the real villain" discourse and how she should just let colin and penelope be happy like ??? penelope almost ruined her last season. no one even talked to her in all those months off-season except cressida because of what penelope wrote. not to mention the marina situation. of course, she would want to warn her brother who has point blank stated that he despises whistledown. they're both teenagers dealing with larger-than-life situations. they're going to mess up and act selfishly at times, but they're both doing the best they can and hopefully they can reconcile.

I think you are most definitely right about the piece of furniture they're gonna have their first time on. Little SPOILER ahead (you've been warned): I just saw a short in which Luke said the fact that the furniture broke is included in the actual scene, also they laughed as it happened, and Luke said them laughing because of it is also included. I quote his words : "we also laugh in the moment like it was written into the scene, it's a beautiful moment but we also laughed in real life when we broke the furniture." So as they broke the furniture the scene was rewritten to keep them laughing in the moment and I find that absolutely funny/adorable/endearing/hilarious/hot/crazy. I literally cannot wait to see the whole scene

That is what my problem is. If Pen as lady Whistledown does not face consequences, It really wouldn't be realistic. But Bridgerton is known for that. Daphne never had to pay anything for her actions. She never even said sorry ( even in the books she's the worst Bridgerton sibling for me or maybe simply her character growth worst because she doesn't have one.)

I think it makes sense for other people in their lives to not have noticed their budding relationships in terms of character arc/development. Both Penelope and Colin live in the shadows of their siblings and parents. No one pays attention to Penelope because she has the lowest prospects/no one expects her to be desirable on the marriage mart. Colin is ignored (relatively) by his family because they are more concerned with getting the older brothers and younger sisters married first. To me, it makes sense that no one really noticed them falling in love, and no one expecting the little Bridgerton brother/least marriageable Featherington to get married. I don't think it's "lacking observation" as much as it's people putting their focus in other places. In particular, part of Colin's character journey is stepping out from behind the shadow of his brothers, differentiating himself from the other Bridgerton boys, and developing his own personality. Anthony brother is the viscount. Benedict is the artist. But who is Colin? He's trying to figure that out.

The “he can’t possibly love you if he doesn’t know…” phrase hit me in a weird way. Aside from the obvious meaning… Eloise basically broke up with Pen when she found out. Does she also mean by that that she doesn’t love her anymore since she knows “the real” Pen? …

Sometimes you have to keep a certain distance from people you love because you are hurt. I think Eloise shows her love for Pen is still there when she asks Colin how is she doing, saying she doesn't want Pen to be friendless, just not close to her. Their love is still there, but there's too much pain and hurt in the middle of it that neither Eloise nor Pen has yet dealed with. I'm excited to see how the show will mend their relationship again.

You change the story if Colin questions that Pen always loved him... In the book, he simply says "I know" and then it explains how he always knew (although he doesn't say it to Pen) but does fully express his feelings

I think Colin in the book knew deep down that Pen loves her but never analysed it because there were 10 years gap between the 1st book and Colin's book, he bound to notice at any time given the years Pen had feelings for her. My guess will be when he declared to his brothers rather petulantly how he would never marry Penelope Featherington & Pen walked right into that conversation after having tea with Eloise & the others. Judging by the pain, embarrassment & hurt in her eyes, even Benedict realised that Penelope has feelings for Colin. I think Anthony realised it too since he escorts her back to her house. If A & B knows, then C definitely realised it too but was feeling too guilty to acknowledge that. Plus, Pen never gave Colin a hard time for not liking her. She simply killed any hope she had for Colin to ever even like her a bit, let alone love.

I want more scenes of Penelope with each of the siblings so much, even though there's logistically no time :( Now, I detest how Eloise shows such disregard for her family but how are people saying she shouldn't be saying what she says in the trailer? Other than when she's been showing covert compassion to Pen in pt.1, when I saw the trailer I just thought "THERE SHE IS, smart loyal Eloise has come home". So agree about not ever getting a Kanthony wedding. Also only just noticed that Lady Tilly is next to Benedict for the toast scene. I think Pen is criticized so extremely because people that never grew up in a family like the Featheringtons or were trusted enough by someone to have that knowledge from them, dismiss the hardship of being made to feel guilty for every breath you take, how your family would literally be financially better off and happier if you didn't exist. They just expect Penelope to magic healthy coping mechanisms and strategies out of her ass without a therapist. For Eloise I think her criticisms come from the assumption that she will never suffer consequences for her actions, so people punish her because the show won't. Daphne never suffered any meaningful consequences for her choice to SA Simion (imo), book-Eloise never suffered almost any consequence for her actions in the lead up to the meat of her story...personally I don't expect show-Eloise to ever acknowledge or apologize for how she gambled with her sisters' reputations (even unintentionally), despite knowing they didn't share her views on marriage and her being their big sister and is supposed to be conscientious of how her actions impact them, but I don't discount the possibility she will grow to treat her family better than she has, unlike her critics, I think. She's already showing growth, just a shame people can't see the possibilities for her or how she's already started to change her ways under her...trauma response/behavior? if that's the right term for her conduct in pt.1.

My theory is that Colin will find out Pen in LW sometime after Cressida takes the credit (maybe he catches Pen in the act trying to discredit Cressida like he does in the books). He tells her to let Cressida take the credit not understanding what LW means to Pen. Pen delivers her writings anyway, and the LW issue calling Cressida a liar gets delivered at the ball at which she’s wearing the red lipstick.
