When she says that she can take care of herself, I don't think that he's upset that he's not her rescuer. I think it's more that, in a partnership, most especially a marriage, you're supposed to take care of each other. It alienates him when she makes that statement. Everybody needs to be needed. Can't wait to see how it plays out!

Oh absolutely! And I didn’t mean rescuer in a bad way. But we’ve also established Colin is a people pleaser. Of course he wants to take care of those he loves as any good partner does! But that part of his journey too is realizing he is worthy of love on his own, that he doesn’t have to “earn” it. Part of his journey is making sense of his place. There’s going to be a lot of levels at play exactly because of what you bring up; Thanks for mentioning that nuance!

I agree with you, even though for the time and in their social class it was absolutely expected/customary for the man to completely provide for and “govern” his wife (for lack of a better term) - and his initial reaction to Penelope-as-Whistledown may incorporate this perspective briefly before he fully processes the situation - Colin is a good guy, he’s not so weak or shallow as to be intimidated by her financial success/independence. I suspect that Penelope is partly reacting in anger / lashing out just at the shock of being found-out - like she says in that other shot with Eloise, “Whistledown is power,” losing her anonymity would take that power away - and it’s her words to which he’s reacting. After suddenly realizing he loves her, they already have a deep connection having known each other & been friends for years, and what she says cuts deep. Like, “I thought you loved me… you don’t need me?” ☹️ At least, that’s just how it reads to me, obviously it’s just a short clip of a scene. In any case, we’ll get the whole context in a week.

Speaking of insecurities: when has Penelope ever experienced being truly seen and appreciated? In her day-to-day life, not so much. She was best friends with Eloise, but as we all know, Pen kept so much close to her chest, and the feelings she did share were often missed by Eloise. And now she has to expose her greatest secret. I hope to see a lot of real growth for Penelope and for Colin. This could prove to be so satisfying emotionally. Hoping the writing offers Nicola and Luke the opportunity to deeply explore being vulnerable - both actors are more than capable of conveying these deep emotions given the opportunity. I’m really sad we won’t have the featherington scene after the carriage. That was by far my favorite scene in the book. And it really shows us that Colin loves every aspect of Penelope. It wasn’t just a lust thing. He explains in details everything he admires about her. Also the scene is so funny and here it seems it will be more tension

I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts! I absolutely loved the trailer. Cressida's red dress totally reminds me of Scarlett O'Hara's iconic red dress when she goes to Ashley's birthday party in Gone With the Wind. The dresses look so similar. Also, did you see the Queen entering the ball with the flower prints floor to ceiling? Roses are everywhere and the guests are wearing red, cremes, pinks, and greens. In that scene, Queen Charlotte totally looks like the queen of hearts from Alice in Wonderland. You know the scene in the rose garden where the queen of hearts yells off with her head? So much to take in! It feels like part 2 might give us the Bridgerton drama finally.

For me the sexiest thing that can happen in part 2 is Colin quickly realizing what a rock star and bad*ass Penelope is to have pulled off Lady Whistledown and respecting the crap out of that. I will give him a short while to mope and be weird about it but he needs to come out the other end even further in awe of and in love with this woman. If anyone should realize why she did it and what it meant to her it should be him. Saw a great analysis about the difference between his family and hers, his position in society versus hers, and just straight up the different ways men existed versus women during those times. When all of those are taken into account he should come to his senses!

I had the day off today and overslept and woke up to the Bridgerton/Polin fandom having a meltdown. Such a great surprise! And this is a PROPER trailer I was not expecting. Also I was ready for more clock/countdown type of PR but they went full on with the tension and drama, and honestly it worked. It has me so hyped up!

It is so weird hearing about or seeing Anthony being protective of Penelope without thinking of the fan fiction I read of them as a couple. But am glad we are seeing how important Penelope is to the entire Bridgerton family. Wish we got more of that.

I’ve always found it odd I haven’t really gotten in to Bridgerton fanfic. Maybe because historically I use fanfic for non cannon ships or to expand on relationships I feel don’t get enough and-in theory- romances are a complete and satisfying emotional arc. And yet, you’ve got me here like “wait do *I* need to read Anthony/Penelope fanfic” 😂

Something interesting that has not been brought up is maybe Penelope is keen to holding on to Whistledown because of the financial situation that her family has always been in. In that era women were expected to rely on the male protagonist for support. She has witnessed first hand how that can easily fade away by the lost of her father and the other male family member betrayal. I also believe she has a clearer understanding of the working class since she is around them often. I also believe she truly enjoys deep down being a girl boss since Something like that was unheard of in that day in age. My prediction is that it will cause Queen Charlotte to have respect for her if they have the queen eventually find out.

She's a young lady in a world where old men make the rules and women, and even more the young one have little to no power depending on their beauty, their money, or their father/husband power. And for most of the ton she have none of them. (Yes she made a good glow up but she still lack some charisma when chatting with people)

A bit back there was an interview clip floating around where Luke is responding to a different question and ends up saying something like “it was fun to confront Portia.” Then Nicola replied something like “we love Polly, but Portia…” And Luke continued with “yeah, she’s being so mean to Pen and I overhear it and sort of put her in her place; it’s a great scene.” Based on that, I’m fairly sure Mama Featherington vs Colin is happening. Unless it got cut from the show and the actors weren’t aware of that when this particular interview happened.

I think they will drag that part out to be their character arc for Season 4 since they are coming back. I could also see it being a really good cliffhanger. I have a theory! The 'spicy' scene we get a glimpse of in the trailer will not be the mirror scene, it will be their first time scene. I think the beginning of that scene might play out similarly to the 'mirror scene' in the book, where he describes the fantasy then says 'later'. THEN later on after the Whistledown reveal is cleared up between them, we will get the ACTUAL mirror scene!!

At min 1.51 there is a very short scene of people dancing at a ball (on the left you can see Penelope). From the enlarged standing picture it seems that some have on masks (look at the two dancing women in the middle, their faces seem unnatural, like they have on masks). Streamlining the narrative in terms of the number of people within the Featherington household when Felicity is more developed than Prudence or Phillipa-and knowing they wanted to expand Portia’s role-I would imagine. Additionally, without Felicity it cements Penelope as on a kind of island in her own household which ups her stakes and makes her motivations clearer. It will become a wrinkle come Hyacinth in terms of her having relationships outside her family but we’ve got a while to solve that one.

I definitely got book vibes from this trailer. Spoilers for book. Sorry. I can’t help it. It is clear we are getting the mirror/bedroom scene we are looking for. I love the theory of them dancing in the church being a replacement for them dancing in Berkley square. I hope so because I loved that scene in the book. The “what good am I to you” seems to be him following her to the church or print shop like the book. I just hope his silent treatment and anger doesn’t last long. From both trailers, it seems we are getting the Cressida black mail at the engagement party.

Also: I don’t think the Featheringtons’ scene doesn’t really fit the show because Portia is made to be a way more caring mother in the show than in the books. She still has faults but again and again it is portrayed to be out of a place of love and care. So I don’t think they would be able to nail the scene without destroying two seasons of character development for her.

To me, part 2 Colin of the show has nothing to do with book Colin's storyline anymore. I am not a book fan. I.e. I likely read it once in like 2019. TV show Colin has a whole different set of conflict to address. This, as much was it was in part 1 as well, rightfully should be shifted to address a younger Colin and a younger Penelope. I.e. the featherington drawing room scene, as adored and influential to the context as it might be by readers, is inappropriate for 23-year-olds Colin. He fully isn't the Colin of the book. He's not there yet.. so to expect them to put a scene in there that doesn't make sense with the character we're trying to expose as the true him.... I think changing that saved them from some level of disingenuous.

Absolutely! And I think his conflicts, while being distinct from book Colin as you said, still feel close to those same inner conflicts from the book. I’ve really enjoyed how the honor the spirit of the book while telling their story, so I definitely more approach it as how the two are in conversation more than trying to be a purist.
