New Marines of Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, completed their battalion commander’s inspection Nov. 8, 2016, on Parris Island, S.C. During the inspection, recruits are assessed on their uniform, bearing, knowledge and discipline. The inspection is the final graduation requirement for new Marines. @@Nostalgic_033 Well, not exactly; its the National Defense Service Medal ribbon. Which is awarded for those on active duty >180 days during specified periods, i.e. during the Vietnam conflict and other designated periods. My initial award has a star denoting second award [Vietnam era and 1st Gulf War; service in combat zone not required.]

It depends on the infraction but I have never heard of anyone failing final inspection.

We had a handful of people in our company that failed the Battalion Commander's inspection, which is the final inspection you have at the end of boot camp. They ask you knowledge questions, chain of command, ranks, and pretty much everything you've learned throughout boot camp. They also inspect your uniform. The people in our company that failed had to remediate the inspection later on that day and if they failed again, they would get dropped to the company a few weeks behind us until they could pass the inspection. It's rare, but it happens. Usually the remedials pass the 2nd time and proceed to graduate boot camp.

As long as your uniform, bearing, and knowledge are squared away, you almost have to try pretty hard to unk final inspection.
