Thank you Bridget for all your help! I gave birth to my first born in February, at home & unmedicated. I had a wonderful midwife with me and of course my husband. He was born within 4 hours of the arrival of my midwife. The way she massaged my back and compressed my hips helped the most with pain, also the birth pool and staying mentally in control that I can do it.. Personally I preferred giving birth while on my back. I couldn’t move into a different position because I was in too much pain lol. 2 big tips from a veteran momma (4 births, 3 med free) is DO NOT scream during contractions. Moan and groan. Drop your jaw and vocalize. When you start screaming you tense up. Which leads to my next tip is to keep your body relaxed. If your jaw and hands are clenched then your body is tense and you can’t move baby down. Luckily the pushing stage only lasted a few minutes for me.

Old doula here (about 25 years). Thank you for addressing “moo” breathing. It’s a great tool I don’t often hear of being used unless a mama has a doula! The other wonderful effect is the “internal effleurage “ of the vibration in the chest and throat of the mooing. Nice video!

I just wanted to take a minute to thank u for all your videos. Specifically this one. I just had my baby. Ended up having it at home alone in my hot tub because my husband was on the way back from work and didn't arrived until the baby was already here. 6 hrs of labor and all that time i never felt i needed any medication or anything. I actually didn't realized i was in labor until like 30 mins before baby was born. I thought were braxton contracting. I used your breathing technique the whole time. Thank u. U are wonderful. 6 hrs labor, 13 mins pushing. I'm officially a vbac momma now and I successfully achived an unassisted, natural home birth.

I just wanted to stop by and thank you so much for these videos! I had my baby boy last week, and my entire labor was 9.5 hours (and I am a first time mom). I had to be induced, but my cervix was soft before the induction was started. The breathing techniques helped me go through most of the labor beautifully, and I believe the reason why I had some issues coping towards the end was that I did not realize I was already in the final stages of labor and was using the wrong breathing technique! Nobody, me included, expected I would progress so quickly, but I did have a contraction after contraction in the last couple of hours. I am so happy that I was able to do it all without epidural and looking back, the labor was much easier and less painful than I ever imagined it would be!

For anyone reading this, as a mother who is a grand multipara... I can say this video is completely accurate!!!! "10 cm" does not mean your baby is ready to come out, unless there is an emergency do not pay attention to the practice of 10cm = ready to come out/push... coached pushing usually gets you straining unnecessarily....

I gave birth October 7th 2019. I was due October 12th. The weekend before my delivery day I watched your video. I'm here to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. I'm a FTM and I used every technique you said. We got to the hospital and once they admitted me I started breathing and breathing. I wanted to go natural but I only lasted 9 hours until I couldnt take it anymore. I was 7 cm open thanks to you! All the nurses said I was doing really well and pretty much were implying I should keep going but I asked for the epidural. :P You helped me get through my pain. When it came to pushing the nurses had just switched shifts and I was super nervous. Luckily the nurse that just started her night shift gave my husband and I, a crash course on how to breathe and when to hold it during labor. I pushed my baby girl out in 11 minutes. I have to say you and my nurse gave me the best birth expeirence ever. During contractions I had told my mother in law this is it. This will be my only child. Then once my baby was delivered I told my nurse I'll do it all over again if youre my nurse. She laughed and said we'll have the same team.

💗 Tip for all of these techniques: Rather than blowing out with an O shape of the lips - relax the mouth open like a soft Ahhh... (similar to a sigh of relief.) The pelvic floor and mouth are connected and mirror each other - so when you close your mouth or purse your lips into an O (like blowing out a candle) that automatically creates a similar contraction of the pelvic floor. Whereas, when you relax your jaw completely and exhale with an Ahhh (can be audible or silent), that automatically relaxes the pelvic floor and creates a softening and widening sensation that allows for a much easier passage of your baby without tearing. 💗💗💗

While I think that should be an absolute no-go by hospital staff, all I can think of is to get your partner (or whoever will be with you when giving birth) on board and make it his task to ensure that your wishes are heard. During labour and especially during contractions, the last thing you want to do is to argue with the staff! Make your partner take on that task. I'm sure he will be happy to be at least of some assistance and take an active role in your childs birth.

Old doula here. I tell my clients that they can do pretty much anything they want to in terms of positions. You may try to be ‘commanded’, requested, or manipulated, but there is NO reason to not give birth in any position you prefer. I don’t recommend being on a toilet, for obvious reasons, but any position that is safe can be accommodated by a midwife or physician. You are more likely to get flexibility with a midwife, though. If after all appeals to flexibility in positions have been exhausted, I counsel my clients to just graciously and calmly say, I’m good here. No, too late, I’m pushing this baby out here. Not belligerently, that is not productive and not necessary. Just stubborn and determined! If they try to physically move you, calmly tell them to not touch you. If they don’t respect that, there are major flaws in that health care system. Remember, always calm, polite, determined. It is so helpful to have whoever is your labor support to tell you what is being said by staff that may be suggestive of them doing things you didn’t agree on beforehand (breaking the bed, pulling out stirrups or leg supports, giving meds you didn’t agree to, etc). They cannot refuse FOR you, but they can advocate for you by keeping you informed of what is going on.

I really want to thank you for this video. I actually had my baby back in July of last year. Because I’m actually an anxiety sufferer as well as panic disorder (diagnosed 2020, after two children already) the idea of any sort of drugs for labour scared me! Mostly because of bad experiences with my first two labours. For my third labour I stayed home as long as I could, and did breathing!! Thankfully I had also learnt breathing techniques for my anxiety which also helped with breathing through my labour. Once my contractions got intense it was time to drive to the hospital, and I had to do the rapid breathing for the transitional part of my labour in the car! Contractions at this point were incredibly intense, incredibly painful, but because I was so focused on what I was supposed to do breathing wise, it was bearable! I arrived at hospital at 1:39am, midwives examined me and I was fully dilated, ready to go. Unfortunately for me I had covid during my labour so they would not allow me to have gas, which is what I asked for if I needed it, and the bath for water birth was filling up. The only pain relief they would give me was morphine and I was anti that!! I got on my knees, on the bed and focused on my breathing, and the midwife said to me “wow, you are just breathing this baby down!” I was so impressed with myself, and I pushed her out, with this Moo breathing, I also had a hand held mirror to see where bub was she was born at 2:19am, 40 whole minutes there and she was out. I did my full birthing and labour with no pain relief. Just these breathing techniques. Also having been through two previous labour, I understood my body a lot more this time. These were incredible techniques and I thank you for it.

I just birthed my 3rd baby 4 days ago, and my experience in breath was ENTIRELY different from my 1st two babies, even though I felt very prepared and accepting of the birth process. In this birth I felt so much less panicky and more accepting of the process. Especially when I hit transition, when I hit that wall of “I can’t do this, I don’t wanna do this” (ha!). I have been rewatching the video my mother took of me pushing my baby out, was so much more calm than my other two births, and it happened so fast! So I was kind of between “breathing my baby out” and actively pushing, but definitely followed my body’s and baby’s lead and it was an amazing experience.

My first birth last year I was pushing for 2 hours I think... and my breathing was out of control. Honestly I felt like the worst part of the whole thing was that I just wanted to sleep and was starving. I had barely eaten that day or slept the night before, and I went into labor in the evening! I’m due with my second tomorrow. I hope this time, things have been stretched out already so the pushing hopefully won’t take as long? And this time I’ll be at a birth center.

When I had my son almost 6 years ago, I wish I used my voice on what position I wanted to push in. I was having him naturally (unfortunately had to have pitocin because I wasn’t not progressing after my water broke) without an epidural and by 10 cm I was on my side and did not want to move. The nurse actually had my husband and dad pick me up and position me onto my back. Pushing like this was soooo hard and frustrating. Now due with rainbow baby boy #2 coming in the next month, I am educating myself more on positions and going to voice this. Breathing is what saved me with my first and I’m praying I can do it again with this baby

Great video! I instinctively did this sort of pushing with my 2nd baby, but I'm not sure if it sounded like mooing for me. I definitely made some type of low pitched noise... maybe groaning? I got to the hospital about 15 min before pushing, so there wasn't time for monitors or anything and it was so nice to push when and how my body wanted to! ❤ (first baby I had an epidural and I HATED having people counting at me!)

Hello. I'm 38 weeks and have a few questions. When do you switch from the "degressor" breathing to the "j breathing" to move the baby down? Also, do you continue to do the "moo breathing" while pushing as well or is there a separate kind of breathing while pushing? Also, I've seen that at many hospitals, the nurses will tell you to not push until the doctor gets there even if you feel the urge. What do you suggest I do if that happens because I plan on pushing anyway and listening to my body.

New subscriber!! I am so upset with the birth of my first child 5 years ago. I did have an epidural, I was 10 cm, but I pushed for 3 hours just because I was 10cm... I tore inside and our needing 6 stitches and it was so so upsetting. I had no coaching on how to actually birth my baby. By the end of pushing I was so so sad and angry that I took my own legs up and within 3 pushes he was out.i wish I did more research before that. We are preparing to try for baby #2 now and I will be doing so much more research. Thank you for your videos!

Thank you, with my 1st birth, the nurse kept coaching me to hold my breathe and push and it felt so unnatural and counter intuitive to me, I kept doing it wrong and I just felt like there was a better way... I just want y’all watching this who haven’t given birth yet to know it’s okay if it doesn’t work for you. It’s okay if you get the epidural. Your body will tell you exactly what you need - listen to it. I was so disappointed I did not have an unmediated birth, but my baby and my body needed the emergency c-section so that both of us could be safe. Look up all the tools! Go ahead and plan for what you want! Do NOT be disappointed or discouraged if things change. You’ll get your baby out whatever way.
@wendymtzc
@wendymtzc Жыл бұрын
I think it’s perfectly normal and understandable to be disappointed, I was with my first one who ended up being born by C-section, I just didn’t let disappointment prevent me from enjoying my child and from trying again, I went on to have 4 normal deliveries, one was medicated because I was induced, thankfully it was not with an epidural
