I think a pelvic floor assessment should be standard care for pregnant women as well as a postpartum assessment! This would help so many women avoid so many problems but sadly our healthcare system just doesn’t prioritize this yet😪

Totally agree!!! In some countries such as France, pelvic health physiotherapy is covered for 10 sessions after birth. So great that they acknowledge the importance of healing this part of the body after birth! There are ways to "self-assess" your pelvic floor meanwhile if you feel disconnected from these muscles after birth - here is a video that will guide you through this :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHnao3eah8uEr9k 💜💜 Good luck Valerie!!

Exactly, but some doctor not even mention that will happen, you will be shamed if you consider not having a vaginal birth but whatever happens after is "it happens with all women is normal"

Hi Rachel - I am a pelvic health PT working with moms and you're totally not alone in this!! Here is a blog post I wrote to help postpartum women in returning to running: beyond-birthing.com/2020/09/10/postpartum-running-program/ I also have a video about the "pre-requisite" tests to do in order to assess if your body is ready to return to running: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6uxpnmPbpKefq8 I am planning on releasing more videos in the future about the specifics of running technique to support the bladder postpartum - stay tuned for this!! But I just want to give you hope that these symptoms can most of the time be fixed with proper running technique and pelvic floor and core strength 💜

This is so important! I’m seven months postpartum and have been seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist for five months on a weekly basis. I still have a long way to go, but Physio has been amazing. An unbalanced pelvic floor it’s not something you should have to live with. For anyone making excuses about not going for pelvic floor physeal, just know that they can work on your other aches and pains too! I Collett my one stop shop now because we work on pelvic floor, pain in my glutes and thighs, and headaches from shoulder tightness. It actually saves me time.

I had pretty severe urinary incontinence during my pregnancy! Any sort of stress- not just sneezing or coughing would cause an issue. I had LOTS of problems when vomiting. I lived in depends. I did a lot of exercises etc while pregnant. I only pushed 3 times and my daughter was born. It took 12 minutes from the time the doctor walked in and found I was 10cm. After she was born- a lot of the issues resolved pretty much immediately. Now- I occasionally have issues- my doctor has prescribed physical therapy- but, unfortunately due to covid most things are limited in my area.

This was a great video, very informative! Thank you :) I would love to see a video focused on relaxing the pelvic floor/lengthening for birth! I had such a hard time pushing baby out because I was too tight. I was assessed by a PFS and told I needed to learn how to relax but then the pandemic hit and my specialist closed down before I gave birth so I couldn't go back to see her (ah! lol). I was pushing for 3.5 hours! Up-side I had zero tearing and a very easy post-partum recovery so it was fiiine but for next time I would love to learn. :)

Hi Jamie! Such a great suggestion! I am a pelvic health PT working with the pre and postnatal population and this is always a big part of my teachings - how to relax the pelvic floor! I made a video about perineal stretch to help improving the flexibility of the pelvic floor for birth: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4q5ooB_lsRqabs However you remind me that I will also make a video specifically about visualizing the release of the pelvic floor and how to achieve this. Meanwhile you may want to check this video where I teach different cues to engage and release the pelvic floor: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJm8nHx-jreYqJY You want to focus your attention on the release part of the exercise. There's also this video where I explain the 3 different ways to self-assess if your pelvic floor is contracting and releasing properly - again the release part would be where you want to focus your attention while doing these self checks! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHnao3eah8uEr9k I hope this helps and thanks for your suggestion - I will get on it soon!

Hi, I just gave birth to my son a week ago and I labored terribly. The pain was horrible. Was that how it was supposed to be? I was crying and didn’t sleep for more than 24 hours. I couldn’t think straight at all. The pain was quite traumatic for me but when we brought him home I cried tears of joy in the shower and bedroom where I labored 🥲 I would like a 2nd child but that amount of pain gives me pause.

Hi, I’m not a professional but I am a mom whose read a lot of stories of other women’s experiences and I have my own experience. No two births are totally alike, even for the same woman. There are things you can do to better prepare for birth and manage the pain during labor. If you want a second child, I encourage you not to let fear of pain stop you! Bridget is a great resource on this topic! I hope you’re able to heal well from the trauma of your sons birth. Blessings to you, mama! You got this! ❤️

I'm on last days of my pregnancy and I already can say that my pelvic floor is very weak, I have problem when I sneeze or cough, since I got pregnant I'm always using pads in my underwear, I'm honestly scared that I'll not be able to cure it, what if after giving birth it gets worse... Will try these excercises for sure, have high hopes everything will be alright.

Hi Bridget! Random question, what kind of leggings do you wear? I’m a first time mom (beginning second trimester) and looking for some comfortable maternity clothes. I’ve looked through your videos to see if you have a video for that. If you find time or feel it’s worth it, it would be great to get your feedback on the most comfortable/practical maternity clothes and “new mom” clothes. Thanks so much.

@d.l831
@d.l831 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely get checked out. You might have a prolapse. (That’s exactly what it sounds like. This was described in the video a little bit) It can be fixed and worked on, but you definitely do not want it to go unchecked or untreated because it will get worse over time and can cause some issues. Your doctor should be able to refer you to a physiotherapist. I have my first appointment with one here at the end of the month and I’m feeling fine...but It’s something that they should have recommended you do.
@d.l831
@d.l831 3 жыл бұрын
You’re not broken though! But for sure get that checked out. Also I recommend waiting on any exercise or heavy lifting or anything straining until you get checked

I know your comment is a year old, but in case this helps, I just gave birth at TMC (Tucson Medical Center) under the care of the midwife team from El Rio Health, who attend births in that hospital. TMC has a midwifery center in the hospital where women can have water births if they want, but they are also very open to natural birth in the regular Labor & Delivery wing. The nurses on staff at TMC were also fantastic! Or if you need it, El Rio Health in Tucson has physical therapists who specialize in pelvic floor health.
