Kinda sounds like it might have a flat plane crank in it. This is so badass. I see you have a distributor too. If wasted spark is easy to do on this design, I've adapted more than a few Chevy HEI modules to different engines. You can use an ABS sensor for the pickup on the crank. I hope to be even half the engineer you are before i die hahaha merry Chistmas
@Skwisgar2322 Жыл бұрын

Abs sensor works for pickup on hei distributors? I’m assuming you have to weld a magnet too
@policerKJO Жыл бұрын
Sounds like an old flathead ford
@dukecraig2402 Жыл бұрын
@@Bustedkuhnuckles No, the magnet is in the end of the sensor, all it needs is something made out of a ferrous metal with teeth sweeping past the end of the sensor for it to work. The ABS sensor for the back brakes of a Ford Ranger pickup truck I had mounted in the rear end housing and used the teeth of the ring gear to sense rotation, if the ring gear stopped the ABS system knew and took over the pressure to the rear brakes, some GM cars have the sensor built into the front wheel bearings, they're the ball bearing type and as they rotate past the built in magnet sensor it knows the wheel is spinning. Electronic speedometers in some vehicles work the same way, the sensor mounts in the tranny case and uses the teeth of the main drive gear sweeping past it to know how fast the driveshaft is spinning so it can display the road speed.

@jonathoncouchey7151 Жыл бұрын
Just, a tip if you ever wanted to make some more power on this. The Intake and exhaust can be tuned to sonic ram the next charge of fuel depending on rpm. By changing the length of the intake runners. And the scavenging effect of the exhaust as well. Set yourself up for a torque cam grind for about 2500 rpm and you could have yourself a torque monster.

This is a rather fascinating project I most certainly will have to go back to the beginning to see where you started. There's a few suggestions I'd offer for optimization, but I'm sure you know where the weak spots are that need a tweak. The easiest to handle would be to open up (read 'stretch' your wall diameter) your exhaust runners to get a more aggressive sound and better flow that one might expect out of an essentially flathead V8, especially the exit pipe section. Back pressure is essential for these engines, But, balancing between bp and getting good flow has more potential than just sounding good.
@Cougracer67 Жыл бұрын
Why is back pressure "essential"??
@C-M-E Жыл бұрын
@@Cougracer67 It has to do with how the valve system works versus in an over head cam engine. With the flathead valve arrangement, backpressure helps keep the intake charge in cycle longer rather than blowing out of the chamber as soon as the valve opens. TLDR version: more efficient, more power.

Nice job.. keep going with the fine-tuning.. Sounds a little flat on the throttle. If it were a small block Chevy, I would say check the accelerator pump linkage position. Try another hole. Also advance the timing until it pings at accel, then back it off slightly from there.
@Desmouffe Жыл бұрын
My Weber carb don't have any accelerator pump ( Fiat 600 196?) But the timing is an issue. No vaccum clock on distributor. And the centrifugal weights dont seem to work. So when it runs nice on idle 10 dgr adw it does not change when I try to rev it up, so I need to look on that.
