Big plastics are the best way to go but you need more weight. The lure needs to sink fast enough to make it swim on the way down . Don’t know how long my best flatty was in length, but it was 24 cm across the head.

Go heaps easier on the drag bro, wear em down with the rod, 20lb is plenty for the big girls. I have pulled in plenty of 70-80's on 6lb 👍 also get yourself a net for the yak haha, bassaction or skulldrag make perfect yak nets, short handle with deep scoops.

First time watching your show. Gotta say it's pretty good man! Ochre is definitely gorgeous! Better treat her right 🙂! See I'm from the USA and when you said "flatty" I thought you were talking about"flathead catfish". But they get way bigger than a meter! They get up to 60,80 pounds and about 5 feet long, but the real treat is that their heads are really wide and flat making them look gigantic! A 60lb Flathead has a month you can fit a soccer ball in! Even the smaller flatheads (5lbs) is able to eat something about 2/3 of its size! Sorry if you're already aware of the flathead catfish. But if not, check them out! Their pretty gnarly! Also the flattys your catching.. are they fish or some kind of water lizards? Thanks for your time and your show! It would be nice to hear from you two! Might hit that subscribe button! 🤙🤙🤙🤙

Luv ya vids Briggsy, when I was on the coast I used rock leader 16 to 20 lb when chasing the big flaty's. It was also good for smell to medium jacks and gt's as its layered and has really good abrasion resistance. There might better stuff on the shelf now but I couldn't count the number of times I got a big fish in with the leader hanging by a thread

I love the fact that you take the time to tell everyone all about reels rods braid trace lures makes and models of all year gear that you use weather its of the rocks with your mates or on the beach with your kids or in the yakka with your better half its very impressive that you stop and take the time to tell your followers about the gear you use especially the new comers either to your channel or people that are just starting out . Hi mate, get Ochre a glove so she dosn't get flatty thumb, it will give her more confidence handling fish as well.
