TL:DR - black mirror plus art Garfunkel equals watership down memories that leave me in tears, hip hop hooray. I can’t hear this song without seeing scenes from watership down in my brain (a mandatory in-class movie viewing in grade 3, which we then had to write a report on). Most of the kids were 8-9, I had just turned 7 because I’d skipped first grade. When I tell you, almost every parent was called to pick up their kids early because all of us were in tears by the end of the day lol. Especially my 7 year old self, who was an animal lover and a very sensitive kid. Didn’t matter though, we were all still expected to write a report on it the next day. lol. Ah the 70s-80s. Inducing childhood trauma via cartoons. So glad this song came up own black mirror episode…didn’t even realize what song was playing in the background of the episode until my partner asked me why I was crying…I didn’t realize I had teared up. And he goes “ugh I hate this song, always reminds me of watership down”…and bam, that’s when it hit me and I realized my face was leaking because I heard that song in the background lol. And, in fact, I LOVE this haunting and beautiful song!! But damn it sure brings back sad bunny images. lol So. Thanks black mirror and art Garfunkel for reminding me of childhood cartoon trauma. It’s been a pleasure.

This song was etched into my memory as a child after Watership down was watched many times daily. So when Black Mirror added it to the Demon 79 episode I was literally stopped in my tracks of what I was doing. My mind associates this song with dying and suffering animals. I can’t listen to it without being reduced to a sniveling wreck. So I’m trying to keep listening to it so I can stop that. Still working on it. Beautiful song.

There's a fog along the horizon A strange glow in the sky And nobody seems to know where it goes And what does it mean? Oh, is it a dream? Bright eyes, burning like fire Bright eyes, how can you close and fail? How can the light that burned so brightly Suddenly burn so pale? Bright eyes Is it a kind of a shadow Reaching into the night Wandering over the hills unseen Or is it a dream? There's a high wind in the trees A cold sound in the air And nobody ever knows when you go And where do you start? Oh, into the dark Bright eyes, burning like fire Bright eyes, how can you close and fail? How can the light that burned so brightly Suddenly burn so pale? Bright eyes Bright eyes, burning like fire Bright eyes, how can you close and fail? How can the light that burned so brightly Suddenly burn so pale? Bright eyes

@@benjaminsidneykidd-bentley3966 I read the book several years ago and if memory serves I found it wonderful, hard only because of the sadness I felt.

Like many others here I just watched BM and remembered this in Watership down, I was born in 76 I went to the cinema with my brother and my parents and saw this I must have only been 2 years old, cannot believe how violent this movie was 😂 this explains a few things for me, but I'm still working on the rest.... ✌️

As a fan of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel and each of their solo, an animal🐴🦘🐕🐘🐿️🐫🐓🐦🦜🦈🐬🐳 especially a rabbit🐇 lover, an admirer of Richard Adams , as well as a passionate reader of Watership Down myself, the song 🎶🎤🎸🎼🎷Bright Eyes enchant 💕me a lot.

When you truly love animals.. You can see God's beautiful spirit glowing in their eyes. And because you love them so much, when they die.. Part of you dies with them. The void they leave can never be filled again. 💔
