I just made the turmeric body butter today, I came back to let you know I love it. I used the oil I infused after watching your video on how to do that. I really love the consistency. I had to sub a few things out as I didnt have the extract, I used papaya extract and a light scent with Frankincense oil. Thankyou very much for your videos, sharing formulas, all the extra info... Thank you Tara for this well explained formulas .... you are right, in India turmeric is being cultivated and used as in plain powder form mixed with milk or rosewater, sandalwood, rice powder or any herbs as a scrub before a bath and washed off ..... it brightens skin. Hi Tara hope you are well. I make this scrub today but instead of sunflower wax, i used bees wax as thats what i had. My turmeric is infused in sunflower oil. I also forgot to cool down my oils and just added my sugar after the melt and hand blend mixed it. My scrub is extremely oily! Was that because of the bees wax? Also, whats the purpose of the cool down phase please?

Honestly, I love that waxy, kinda oily after feel, that scrubs leave my skin after a bath... Leaves my skin feeling smooth and conditioned! Best of all I don't have to apply any body lotion after a bath, as I normally do on days I don't scrub.

Emulsified products are also always a good option, because you can double-dip and not have to worry about the body products turning rancid if you use the product in the shower.

Study up a little more on what your preservation system can do in an emulsified product, you absolutely cannot double dip and not worry about mold growing in it, your preservative is not formulated for any amount of additional water that will drip off you hands or the steam that lands in there from your shower. Even adding more preservative you won’t be able to account for how much water will enter from just steam alone.

Yup you could use any oil instead, it just obviously wouldn’t be a turmeric themed products anymore. & yup, rice powder should work. I’ve never used it myself. But I’d imagine so.

The 2% is correct because when you add the percentages in the formula they don’t add to 100% however if the extract is 2% then it makes a full 100%

The BTMS 50 already adds a really soft luxurious feel, but you can add it if you would like. It will increase the viscosity so I would lower the cetyl alcohol or btms 50 percentage a bit.

Hi Tara ! I heard that turmeric doesn’t really brighten skin Instead it colors it hence why one would h’think hyperpigmentation is fading. What is your opinion on that ? I also heard that licorice is way more effective to treat hyperpigmentation.

Licorice is a wonderfully brightening ingredient too, but I’ve never heard that about turmeric. So not sure. I knows it’s been used in India for many many years for it skincare and medicinal benefits.

Actually it’s been said to not LIGHTEN dark spots but it does brighten them, making them less dark. But like Tara said licorice root is definitely Greta for hyperpigmentation

For an emulsified body butter what is the ratio of liquid oil to butter to wax do I use?. For example i have on hand distilled h20 and glycerine...avocado oil, mango butter and emulsifying wax nf and stearic acid. Batch size 200gr I know a formula in % need to add to 100%. So will this make sense... Water phase. Distilled h20 20% (40gr) Glycerine. 4%( 8gr) Oil phase Avocado oil 40% (80gr) Mango butter 10% (20gr) Shea butter 10% (20gr) E.wax nf. 10% (20gr) Stearic acid 5% (10gr) Cool down phase Preservative germall plus at .5%(1gr) Frag .5%(1gr) Also if I'm doing a body wash is distilled water to sci and betaine 50%?. I can not find that info anywhere....is sci to betaine ratio best 1:1 and water added 2:1?...that's what I've been doing and it working out just want to be sure. Also will the more c. Betaine I add create more bubbles?. If I uses scs noodles with betaine? Just made this up working backwards from the batch. N e ways my question is do I continue to formulate by trial and error or there is a water to oil ratio I need 2 be in. I feel like I need more water. Thank u for all u do. Also ur should write a book bc I learned so much about surfactants and phases calculating percents and grams and just being a better researcher so motivated by ur channel that I started my own business.!.

Please help! I would also like to add some concentrated Curcumin. Curcumin is not water soluble, but there are Curcumin powder extracts on the market that claim to be H2O soluble. Is it possible to make an oil infused Curcumin extract alongside ,as well as, the tumeric extract ? Or, is it possible to add Curcumin powder straight to the butters and melt it into the recipe? Should I get regular Curcumin powder, or the one that claims to be H2O soluble? Any advice would be majorly appreciated here!!!

Hi Tara! Question!! If you’ve already added preservative to the product you then pH balance, do you need to add more preservative since you’re introducing more water? And if so would it be okay to add preservative to the citric acid solution to avoid the guesswork of adding more preservative to the main batch?

You could add a preservative to the Citric acid buffer if you want, but the pH may be too low for any preservative to be active. But since you are only adding a few drops to the product it shouldn’t throw off the preservative system.
