I bought a 1971 super two years ago as my first car. It was cheap and looked ok so i thought classic car for good price alright. Since it has become a mini resto project for me and my dad. You and your videos have helped me tremendously. Without you i would not have near the knowledge I do today about classic VW's and for that I greatly thank you. Keep you loving what you're doing and helping youtubers like me with their cars. Cheers

No, oval dash actually came in middle part of '52. Split windows ended at the very start of March of '53, so ovals started March 10th of '53. So it reality, 53 is a very short year for the oval window, and it is the only year that the oval had 25hp, thankfully I have that original motor for this bug. Go to my website and see the progression on this car, it is stunning.

That video is available, I mention it a few times throughout this series. The bugmevideo series has a dvd on heater channel restoration. It is out there, and has been for over 10 years.

Mr Chris i hear people say so many things concerning rust proofing which rust proofing do you think is best for undercoating and inside the car which one stands up well fading again sun light and which brand stands up all round and is long lasting over all.

I have a question not about the heater channels but of the actual car. Wasn't the 53 the last year of the split window and the first year of the Oval Window Dash???? I could be wrong.

I'm new to the restoring a bug thing but we grew up with a squareback in the family. I'd love to build a fastback but guess they are almost all gone like the notch and square.

Serio needs better eye protection. Those micro arcs can scar permanently! I know some old timers that have issues from plasma cutting with no shading. Another interesting video Chris. Mike from Oregon

Do you have a video on rear cross member
@classicvwbugs11 жыл бұрын
Hmmm yeah, I dunno man, you can do it, but I do not recommend it. To do the job right, the body should come off the pan. You need to get the BugMeVideo dvd on floor and heater channel replacement.

I have videos on my site on "what to look out for before buying a bug" Like 9 part video on what to look for. Also, in this video and the part two of this video, I mention that you can use an angle grinder and a sawzall.

so what exactly does the heater channel do? I have to replace mine but i thought it was just for chassis reinforcement. Whats the heater part about it mean?
@classicvwbugs8 жыл бұрын
uh... heat travels through it.
@ubacow71098 жыл бұрын
Chris Vallone but what for? modern cars dont have them? is it just to bring in heat to the interior?
@classicvwbugs8 жыл бұрын
yes it is heat and structural support.
@ubacow71098 жыл бұрын
How does it exactly take heat from the exhaust? I would think am exhaust leak into the cabin would lead to terrible things.

@allisonwatson72049 жыл бұрын
That's one way to ruin an oval window beetle! Proper panel removal should be the reverse of how it was installed, by removal of the factory spot welds even with very rusted panels like this. By hacking it apart with a cutting torch you make an uneven surface to reattach the channel which can hurt it structurally and devalue the car by making a non factory style repair. And if you plan on making an educational style video, wear the proper ear and eye protection!! I cringed watching episode 3 when your guy got the molten piece of steel in his eye!! You obviously need more education especially before you try selling these cars. Buyer beware!
@suharinos6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, hurts my eye to watch something like this that is done such shit way. And they make videos how to do it, oh my god is all I can say !! They completely ruined this body and hopefully someone will do it correctly and restore this beautifull vintage peace. This idiot should move to a India and shipwrech harbour where they ripp ships apart with torch.

Another sad video how you do things quick and shit. Now this time we use blow torch to get rid of some metal... Drilling off welds and carefully preparing edges to joint new sheet metal part once again together never crossed his mind. Why not, just do it shitty and sell it fast. Another good VW raping video on KZbin.

Hey ladies and gents what we have here is just another internet Gangsta HATER. The type of guy that is a lot stronger sitting behind his computer screen POUNDING the keyboard as he sits in a basement waiting for his mother to call him up for dinner, and to also tell him she folded his laundry too. See this guy would never walk into my shop and stare me in the face and rip like this. All kidding aside, this is just one way of doing things my friend, you have a better way of doing things? Then get off the computer and make a video to show the world your skills and contribute to the VW community instead of ranting. Last I checked, this car came out incredible www.classicvwbugs.com/2013/03/28/1953-oval-window-vw-ragtop-euro-beetle-bug/ Still holding strong, lets see what you are working on.
@classicvwbugs6 жыл бұрын
1st off these are not all the methods we use, this is just ONE way. We actually rarely torch, I think we only torched heater channels with just this car, the car still came out killer. If you are so good at what you do, a professional as you say, well then a pro would snap pics or take video. Text can only go so far, show us your talent and let the VW community learn from you. I do these videos for free on my own time along with running a VW business, I have over 425 videos on youtube contributing to the VW community on a weekly basis. What have you contributed? I see a lot of talk but no show.
