Its interesting but Im slightly surprised the engine likes it since in almost every case 2 minor pieces is better than a Rook and pawn or even a Rook and 2 or 3 pawns oftentimes. Perhaps the engine likes it here since youre already up by material and it lets you trade of pieces for a quicker victory

You know what, I really appreciate your comment! I have found from my experience that having two minor pieces is better than a pawn and a rook. I am going to lean toward the fact that I was already up in material.

if im understand correctly, the king can move to a square adjacent to the rook and recapture the knight. in that case you’ve taken a rook and a pawn, and they have taken two knights. if a knight is worth 3 pawns and a rook is worth 5, then how is capturing the rook making you “up in material”? 1:06

Hello Drew, I appreciate the response, and you are right. Looking back I didn't explain that part of the video clearly. What I should have said is that I was up in material before the exchange, and still up in material after the exchange.
