Nobody sings this like Alfie Boe. It’s a difficult song and the way he sings it is so full of emotion.And that last exquisite note…..

Colm is the king no one will take the crown from him. Boe’s pretty great though. His reprise at the end with the 3 others was truly special. “The summers die one by one how soon they fly on and on” such a great delivery. But I do find this performance to be a bit too soft and high. When he pushes it just a bit he’s really amazing towards the end. Would be amazing if he could sustain that throughout the whole song.

Not his best performance of "Bring Him Home", but Boe is the best to sing it. I think you meant that you couldn't breathe.

From My Review - Jean Valjean is magnificently portrayed by the opera singer Alfie Boe. It was widely thought that the 1985 version of Valjean with Colm Wilkinson and his signature song, Bring Him Home, could never, ever be supplanted. That conventional wisdom was obliterated by Alfie Boe’s tour de force in 2010. Boe got a 5-minute standing ovation after he belted out Bring Him Home, with him actually having to break character as the on-stage cast behind him were in tears. Boe’s performance at O2 was the greatest in the history of Les Misérables…bold words indeed.

I've heard about Les Miserables since I don't know when, also love the song I Dreamed a Dream, but have never watched the play/movie in full. I've tried to watch the movie, but can't stand the singing so I only manage to watch around 20 minutes or so. But last year I watched the 25th anniversary concert with Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean and I was blown away by the story, the songs, the singing, the emotion. I shed tears countless times...

To bad u did not give the movie a chance. It is terrific. Forget the quality of what is pleasing to your ear as the singing is concerned. The styles fit the situations. The actors are exceptional. They sing as they would say the words for the first time. So, forgive what is not pleasing to your ear and to concentrate on the story. I guarantee, you will love the movie. You just have to let your go your expectations, and just listen. Listening is a lost art today, if it was ever an art, most people think about what they want to say, and are not really listening to who they are talking to. Go find on you tube, behind the scene of making the movie. It gives understanding to the making of the moving. All actors came out of the wood work and wanted to be in this movie. Watch it..Then you will understand. Keep an open mind. Listen. You will learn a lot. This is how we learn.

I've just seen Les Miserables in Glasgow for the live arena world tour and Alfie played Valjean. I don't know how this man sounds better live than on recording, he has made this song and this role his. I've been wanting to see and hear him as Valjean since getting the DVD of the 25th anniversary and I'm so happy that I finally got the chance. Alfie delivers this song like no one else ❤

@EthanWilliams-eh5jc Жыл бұрын
Are you a fan of the John Owen Jones version? I think he’s the perfect of Colm and Alvie’s performances. Vocally, it’s hard to compare due to how different their voices are. It’s more about preference. These are three outstanding professionals who have their craft down pat. Alfie is imo, the most technically skilled with his background in classical opera (duh), but to me, something is missing from his performance of the song. It sounds stunning, precious, and pained, but it doesn’t quite have the longing that Colm and John bring to the table. Colm I think puts a little too much heart in sometimes but he’s the original so it’s hard not to love him and be bias towards him. I would say that John’s interpretation understands the character best. He sings a soft lullaby prayer, as Alfie does, but here, you feel not just the hurt and the pain, but the final plea as well. In Valjean’s mind, God has done so much already for him that it almost pains him to ask for Marius’ protection too. But he knows he won’t be here forever and accepts that Cosette will need someone else when he is gone. So he makes a desperate final plea to God. You can hear the desperation ooze through John’s performance as the song progresses and then he quickly calms himself to regain composure with his very last humble prayer.
