Getting it done in a week would be wonderful, but not on our timeline... we're slower than other DIY/Reno KZbinrs I think :) My work and homeschooling, etc. take some time away from us but we also have to wait for the money to come for the next steps. Luckily that usually isn't a big issue because of the slower pace. LOL For example, the past two days have been spent removing the old gutters from the home. 8 hours of working and only 1/3rd of the home gutters have been removed. LOL S-L-O-W going!!! :) Anywho, we both really appreciate your watching us and comments!

I just wish my mobile home had a roof like your mobile home. Mine is a 14 x 70, but it has a rounded roof that is domed in the middle. It has no center peak. I was thinking about doing a roof over, but, was told that with the age of my place that I would have to put poles in the ground and build the roof onto the poles. I was thinking about running rows of 2x4s along the edges and a row down the length in the center and basically making a peak so that I could lay the plywood on the roof. I was thinking about putting a metal roof on top of the plywood instead of using roof tiles too. The metal roofing will last longer too without the worry of the high winds we get here lifting any of the tiles up.
@sam-and-angela4 жыл бұрын
There are several mobile homes in our area that are older than ours with the same roof where they have framed up elaborate structures on top--much more than what we're doing! I thought it may be an interesting video to show the various ones around here for inspiration, humor, or otherwise. I don't know how prevalent roof overs are for other areas, but they're popular out here! I don't know about structure strengths or if they did anything to support the new roofs internally. I'll have to do that at some point soon. It would be interesting maybe.

How often do you have to change that gas cylinder? I'm sure it is too late already but White steel is the way to go to keep your mobile home cool. I have put it on my home and 3 other buildings and I cannot tell you how much it cooled my home vs. the old black shingles I had. On my barn, you can actually touch the underside of the white roof without burning your hand...its just that reflective.
@sam-and-angela4 жыл бұрын
They say the gas cylinder will last for 1,000 nails. We went through about 3/4 a box so far. I bought two boxes (1,000 each) and hope it’s enough. We’re getting the same roof we used for our other structures we’ve built here so they match. The color is brown-ish but it is a cool touch coated panel. It’s got a reflective coating to where you can put your hand on the bottom of it in summer too.

I have a similar project planned, but after watching the difficulty you had squaring up the first sheets so the rest played well, I’m starting to wonder about my plan. I want to add a 2 x 4 on top of each truss for a 2 foot overhang but I have plywood deckong now and I’m not sure how I’m going to locate the trusses and get them square. I think I’m going to have to run a very tight and accurate string line at the peak so I can measure down when the wind is not blowing lol

What did you do for venting the roof.? I would have added 2x4's on the flat then laid the plywood and used a fascia vent or sofit vent combined with a ridge vent. With your current configuration, the sun will heat all the roof and without proper venting, the inside will be hot in the summer and colder in the winter. I am trying to vent my roof now, that's why I watched your video, Cheers.
