I have the exact same scooter. And I’m running into a problem. I took it for a ride after new batteries were installed and then went to charge it. Wanted to go for a ride and it went 5 feet and the back wheel locked up and the throttle lights up all 3 lights. I tried to replace the controller but that didn’t work. Any ideas?
@OldSneelock Жыл бұрын
Not sure how expert you are at checking but I would start with checking the battery voltage. New batteries should be okay but it is an easy test and they can be bad. One battery is 12 volts. Two batteries in series makes 24 volts. If batteries are okay then test the motor in the wheel. Running straight 24 volts from the batteries using a jumper wire should have the motor spinning. If not the motor might be bad. You replaced the controller. Check the wiring and make sure it is correct. Not being able to see it that is the best I can recommend. Let me know what you find and we can go further with more information.

How do you check the motor if it’s bad?
@OldSneelock Жыл бұрын
I would use some jumper wire and go from the battery pack to the motor leads. the motor should spin if you connect to the batteries. If it does then the controller is suspect.
@joshbeier Жыл бұрын
I jumped the battery to the motor and it freed up. Replaced the controller and the throttle. It works again. Only thing is the battery gauge on the throttle after a fresh charge goes right to half when I first take off.

I did'nt know there were electric scooters. The ones I rode were HAMMERHEAD powered and not mine to start with but I liked them anyway. If the electric doesn't work, put a weedeater motor or a chainsaw motor on it. You've got smallish feet and could stand to make a larger carbon footieprint. If it was mine and ran I'd be hunting dual wheels and high flotation tires. Good find for $50 but why doesn't that surprise me.

Check the connections in the battery cables. The battery box on mine isn't water proof. The cable connections can get corroded. A tube of dialectric grease from the auto parts store will help prevent the corrosion. Also check all the other connections. I had the plug between the throttle and the controller work loose. Lewie McNeely The last one was the worst. Just some road rash but it could have been a whole lot worse. ~ Warning ~ Story from my youth My softball team had won a game. Since I was pitching it was a real big deal for me. I left the field and headed back to the house. At the hospital stoplight I decided to let the Harley Panhead run wide open for a block. Youthful exuberance will kill you quicker than anything. I was doing about 60 when I saw the lady making a left turn in front of me. She was having one of those deer in the headlights moments. The Harley was running straight pipes with baffle washers so when I opened it up the windows rattled for two blocks. She must have heard me coming and froze. I clamped on the binders and tried to steer around behind her. Too fast and too sharp a turn. The back end broke loose and slide sideways. The bike grounded on the derby cover and lifted the rear tire up off the pavement. When it came down again a half second later it flipped the bike up and threw me into the right hand lane on the other side of the ladies car. I was still moving at about 60 when I hit the pavement. I landed on my left elbow, the seat of my pants, and my heels. There use to be a commercial for Sinclair gasoline with a stop motion series of people sliding down the road on their butts instead of being in a car. That's what I was doing. I pushed myself upright and slid for a block and a half on my wallet and the heels of my shoes. As I'm writing this I can see the car door handles of the cars I'm passing zipping by my head. The bike was chasing me in the left hand lane throwing sparks in a rooster tail. It passed me and I figured I must have stopped sliding. I pushed up with my hands and was up running down the center of the right hand lane. I ran up to the bike and picked it back up on it's wheels. I did a quick check and the only real damage was the foot shift lever was bent in a U. It was a drop forged steel bar about a half inch thick. I don't think I could bend it with anything less than a three foot lever but I grabbed it and pulled it out straight. My adrenaline level must have been maxed out. I hopped on the bike kicked it over and it fired right off. I smoked the tire to the next corner and headed back to my house. When I got home and pulled the bike around back I went inside to take stock of the damage. I had a scrape on my left elbow about 2" long, both back pockets were worn through, and the heels on my loafers were worn off at a 45 Degree angle. The only reason I'm still here is that God loves me and the devils afraid I'll take over.

Clean all the connections with contact cleaner first. The cable connections get corroded. Then test your motor by jumping around the controller direct from the batteries to the motor. If the motor runs my bet is the connectors. The controller is the sealed box. Nothing to check inside. That is a pain. Only way to check is replacement. Checking and cleaning the wires is easiest and cheapest do it first. You might just find a loose/bad connection.

Hope I didn't trigger anyone ) Also the high pitched hiss on the soundtrack could easily be filtered out with CoolEdit or many other editing softwares in 3 clicks. My friend found it very annoying to be in the same room while I was watching this video because of the annoying hiss. Otherwise, enjoyed the video. I have an S350 passed down from my brother where the cog that the chain attaches to on the motor broke off. Hopefully I can find a way to replace the shaft and save the motor because it barely got used before the shaft broke. It's been sitting in the garage for 10 yrs. But batteries and motor sound strong! Its very difficult to find a PRACTICAL scooter like this these days with a nice seat and large wheels. And if you do, they want a lot more than a grand for it. I think the s350 was like $300 brand new. The range kind of sucked. But if I can get the shaft replaced, I'm planning to upgrade the battery pack to Li-Ion and charge it outside of the unit if necessary, although onboard charging is much more convenient. This should be a fun and rewarding little project. I'd like to have something like this that can be basic transport over short distances and can be energized with a solar panel, in case the grid fails from a Zombie Apocalypse.

I will keep that in mind to troubleshoot when I get to that point too! I managed to get the throttle installed, replaced the fuses(they were melted) and got the batteries charged, but the power light doesn't light up when switched on and the engine doesn't start either. I've read that some may start with a"fast walk and throttle it on" to prevent accidental roll aways, but do you suggest that as being the problem, since the power light doesn't come on?
@OldSneelock7 жыл бұрын
Rob Nero My 500 starts from a standing stop and pulls quite strongly. There is a common problem that many who work on these mention. The electronics are not sealed. All the connections are right at the front of the battery box with a big hole directly behind the wheel. Any, and I mean any, water that enters the box through that hole corrodes the connections. The controller shuts down when the voltage drops below a certain point. I think that on mine I am fighting resistance issues in the connections. Fully charged the batteries generate 24 volts. If I'm losing just 2 volts to a bad connection any voltage drop causes the controller to sense a discharged battery and shut down. My intent is to clean all my connections after I repair the flat tire. You can buy contact cleaner in spray cans. Try disassembling the connections one at a time. Clean and reassemble each connection before moving to the next. Marking the cleaned connections will help prevent missing one. @OldSneelock7 жыл бұрын
That's always a judgement call. I fix things because I can and I enjoy it. If I was trying to make a living at it I'd go broke pretty quickly. On mine, and research shows with most of them, the batteries go bad. It was $50.00 for a set for mine. The wiring is exposed to water if it rains. The connections can be cleaned but the joint between the wire and connectors is hard to clean without replacing the connector. I'm over the weight limit for the scooter. The range is supposed to be 8 miles. I get about a block before it shuts down and I have to wait for the controller to cool. Not worth 15 minute wait for a one block ride. So my answer is that if you want to play with them go for it. If you think you might make money selling them, chances are it won't be very much if anything.

Old Sneelock's Workshop yep sounds right, there are cheap batteries on Amazon that you can replace with that pack, and it'll work like new! Here are the batteries for 36$ www.amazon.com/UB12100-S-Universal-Battery-Replacement-10000mAh/dp/B00LRW1SZG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1482590194&sr=8-2&keywords=10ah+lead+acid

Clean all the connections. The front of the battery box is open to water from rain picked up by the wheel. The batteries go dead if left uncharged.

Hey, I am pretty sure I just broke my gear shaft in my 50cc scooter... is this fixable? or will I have to replace the entire motor/trans? Thanks... It's a chinese Qigqi...
@OldSneelock5 жыл бұрын
Check for parts availability first. I would look into a repair manual. That should have a a schematic and parts breakdown. If you have the skill or the patience to learn, fix is usually cheaper.

Never heard of a Quigqi before. That's just the first steps I try with anything. When I get ready to buy something I ask about service and try and get a service manual.

Is yours the same model?
@waynefilkins83945 жыл бұрын
@@OldSneelock Yeah same exact model and color! I ordered the correct batteries, they are a bit thinner than the ones I had ordered so they can lay down in there. I got 2 of these scooters from my cousin but they didn't have batteries or speed controllers and also each one had half the parts missing but there's enough between them to get 1 full scooter, after ordering new controller and batteries. I really hope the controller I ordered works, should be able to run it tomorrow with the big batteries, then replace small ones when they come in. Might tape big batteries in there somehow temporarily haha
@waynefilkins83945 жыл бұрын
I actually considered cutting off the back ends of them and weld them together to make an off-road 2-wheel electric skateboard, but I figure getting it going and stopping will be hard as it will want to fall over probably due to 2 wheels lol

My scooter starts running as soon as I turn it on I don’t know how to stop that
@OldSneelock5 жыл бұрын
Unplug the throttle control. If that stops it then start checking the throttle grip. If it doesn't stop the controller might be bad.

No you don't. It doesn't mean you can't. I had a little difficulty finding it when I went looking. To prevent a reoccurrence I downloaded it. Also I printed it out so I wouldn't have to have my phone out and on while trying to work on the scooter. It's handy to put notes on the back of the diagram too.

Yer way too big for that bike. I have a 1000 and it is only rated 180lbs
@OldSneelock5 жыл бұрын
Yup I am. It was purchased for my wife. She is well under the ratings. Fortunately I am not afraid to push the limits. Otherwise she would have been the test pilot. I've found that I bounce a lot better than she does so I would rather risk wrecking a $50.00 toy than her safety. P.S. It held up just fine. Must be a lawyer wrote the ratings. Don't want to get sued by an injured party.
@xxlcountryguy833 жыл бұрын
Those weight ratings are lies. I have the s400 along with many other scooters... I'm 6' 5" and 350lbs. They all work fine for me albeit straining to get speed with my weight. I always add another 12v battery to overcoat the motor and I'm good to go no problems even when climbing hills.
