There's a middle aged gentleman on Marketplace that has a Raptor 660 for sale for $1000.00. The add says that it starts and runs good but has an oil leak on the bottom. Could be just a gasket (hopefully) but IDK, I've never owned a quad before but I've ridden a few times a few different ones. Most of the mechanical aspects of it looks fairly straight forward I'm just hoping that it doesn't have major engine or transmission issues because I don't want to have to pull the engine out first thing and have to do a full rebuild or replace gears etc etc but if it's in pretty good shape $1000 sounds like a good deal. I'm thinkin about it.

@hidinfrombiden6251 2 жыл бұрын
@@smokeybandit4910 Little bit of info here for the one's who don't know, or can't remember. It was on the 2001 model only. If you don't know how to tell a 2001 model from an 02-05 model, a dead giveaway is the remote reservoir rear shock and the square tube aluminum subframe that came on the 2001 models only. 02-05 came with heavier round steel tube subframe and had the reservoir mounted directly on the shock body. However, it is possible to run a 2001 model subframe and rear shock on a 02-05 model but you'd have to relocate the voltage regulator too as the voltage regulator on an 01 mounts at the tailight, and on the 02-05 models it mounts there on the frame where the remote shock reservoir mounts on an 01. Or you could just change the wire harness, but you'd have to change the CDI box too if you did that because the 01 models have a different wire harness and CDI box than the 02-05 models. With the way bikes get parted out & the way people hack & mismatch parts on bikes now days there's only 1 way to know 100% for sure which year model raptor you have & that's by looking at the 10th digit of the vin number as it identifies the year model. But just because a person's 10th digit might be a "3" meaning an 03 model, that doesn't necessarily mean that someone didn't swap an 01 engine with the weak transmission gears on it? Or maybe they swapped an 01 engine with the upgraded 02-05 transmission in it? Shit's confusing right😂? At that point the only way to know if you have an upgraded 02-05 transmission is by splitting the cases. The upgraded 02-05 transmission went with a 4 dog setup on the gears instead of the previous 3 dog found on the 01 model. And the updated 02-05 transmission gears have a groove cut into the ridges of the teeth to aid in oil lubrication of the gears. I hope all this refreshed some memories lmao😂.

I built a 2003 Raptor 660 also. I did it all. Rebuilt engine with a Big Bore kit, Complete top end, bottom end was tight. 2 new carbs with dyno kit, k and n filter, full big gun evo exhaust. Then dynoed. Changed every bearing,bushing, chain , sprockets, swing arm bearings. Im $10k deep into the build. 😂 Engine was built in a shop. Everything else I did myself. Check my channel out might have a pic not sure. Next is take all apart again send all metal for powder coating, then new plastics and graphics thats last. Power and mechanical first 👍🏼 I like how ya work. efficient with right tools

Generally speaking, transmission issues are relegated to the 2001 model year. The 2nd gear dog gear is weak and breaks. This problem was more or less addressed in 02-05 models with a stronger 2nd gear.

Hi! Joshua here. I was just wondering if you wouldn’t mind telling me what your job occupation or title is. You’re living the exact dream I want to do. Have a garage home where my work can be. There’s something so satisfying about a loft and garage to me. I feel I have a calling, but don’t know exactly how well I should know cars. If I want to do detailing, fixing, dent removing, or what have ya. They say learn from your idols in the profession that you seek. I have to say you are it. The only one that I found to the t. Already grateful I found you, but I would be forever grateful if you told me your job title. Please help me. I’m clueless and new to all this. Like a baby lol But we have to start somewhere. Sorry this is so long. I appreciate you in advance! God bless!!!

Hey Joshua, I have been a full time mechanical engineer for about 7 years, I didn't start KZbin until about 3 years ago. I've had a small fabrication business on the side for about 6 years. I am completely self taught with anything to do with cars, fabrication, and welding. Of course being an engineer can help to understand how things work. My biggest advice is to follow your passions. It isn't always easy to know what your passion is and I admit I'm still figuring it out myself. You need to try many different things so you can really nail down what you want to do. If you put your heart and soul into what you're truly meant to be doing and enjoy doing, success will come. Also don't get caught up on getting a job just because of pay, the most important thing is to live below your means. If you do that, the amount you get paid really doesn't much matter. Work hard and stay patient, good luck to you and I really appreciate your support!

@@Kordare Wow!! Thank you, brother!!! Words to live by!!! I really appreciate you acknowledging me and taking the time out to reply. Truth be told, I believe this is supposed to be the door to all my other passions and everything. Ever since I was a kid and watched the Hustler’s Ambition music vid by 50 Cent (I know this sounds silly, but that’s how dreams and passions work) I saw the most basic rundown loft and was inspired, I wanted that. Well lately, since a f&f movie (again, I know kinda bizarre) I saw a loft/garage and work space. That also hit me just right. Finally, I was thinking about doing cars. The night of the day I took it serious, I had a dream/vision of a slanted shed that was a living space in the back and huge double or tri garage in the front. I knew while I was seeing this, that the garages were where my car work was. I literally could work out of my home. The revelation hit me like a ton of bricks. Like my whole life built up to that moment or something. Less than a week later I see a garage shed just like the one in my dream. I didn’t even know that exact frame really existed! Give or take around another week, and I stumble across your channel!! And I am floored by what I see!!! I do not believe I came across you by accident. Thank you for being a pioneer and for being bold and brave. I hope you find all you want and are meant to! I hope more dreams come true for you!!! You have a lifelong fan and supporter!!! You are awesome!!!
