Welcome back to the Sunday Morning Golf Show, of which this week I am at the STUNNING Stoke Park Golf Club which was made famous by Sean Connery in the James Bond Goldfinger Film and later by Daniel Craig in Layer Cake. I am visiting Under Armour at Stoke Park where they are showing off their current and 2025 shoe line up to Head Pro's around the country so I thought I would be a fly on the wall for you. Thanks for the show Dan, I remember playing that course years ago to, it was then called Stoke Poges. A John Lewis society day, one guy (new to golf) wheeled his trolley right across the then practice putting green right in front of the main house on a frosty morning!!! Looking forward to playing Churston next weekend.

That course is stunning to use a favourite word of yours! Glad you enjoyed your time with other head pros. I know you’re busy and like to film everything, but I’m sure there’s no downside to spending time with other pros when you can. Never heard of that golf ball brand but sounds like it was impressive. Great Sunday morning show! As mentioned previously Titleist are mad and Under Armour now my go to shoe having picked up 2 pairs recently to go alongside some Eccos and I was always Footjoy. Now also looking into UA clothing to add to their colder I use. Love Stoke Park, used to play club matches against them for years - great members and food as well! Keep up the great work.

Stoke park means so much to me , as won my place in the UK Diners club pro am in 2000. 5 days in Dubai ,22 teams and finished 2nd overall, now been to Dubai well over 30 times now. Nice to see SP open again.

Funny thing. I've been lacing my shoes that way since the early 80's. I have bigger feet but little ankles. I have no idea who told me to do that but it worked so well with my high jump spikes in high school that any type of athletic shoe I lace up like that. Been using Seed balls for 2 years and for a hacker like me they are great. I see no difference between them and the Z-Star I used. And for the price I can order 3-5 dozen at the beginning of the year and be set .

Some of the guff these companies come up with to sell a shoe always makes me smile. Laces are narrower towards the toes because of the anatomy of the foot. Also that style of lacing shoes through hoops has been around for decades, especially in running circles (especially fell running) as it helps lock the shoe in place. Good luck for this year Dan, looking forward to seeing the boys back on the channel.

Loved Stoke Poges, not sure why it changed to Stoke Park. I am a member of 1908 club, so we played Stoke Park very cheaply. Didn’t know it had been purchased, what on earth will they do with such an iconic club?

I used to be a member at Stoke Park (and before that, when it was Stoke Poges). My crowning moment was a hole in one at the 7th (the hole you talk about that was the model for the 16th at Augusta). It was a great Harry Colt design and very well bunkered. It has clearly changed a lot since I played there but I enjoyed trying to spot which hole you were on. It looks in great condition although I suspect a game there could be £££ now!! Great video, as always.

Have played there a few times back in the day. Beautiful 3 nines but the Harry Colt one stood out. Pity if the owners hide it from the public.

Great looking shoes. This was the Goldfinger venue indeed. I even spotted a putter I have in the trailer 🎉. I remember you making fun if the Seed ball! Wilson have nice balls too.

Good to have the Sunday morning show back. Interested to learn more about Under Armour shoes having been a life long Footjoy person. Good to see a company that appears genuinely passionate about their customers rather than only interested in the sale. I would also be interested if you were to review hack motion particularly around the putting.

I like the combat golf series, it really does force you to be creative with the clubs you have, which can only improve your game and lower your scores. Quite understandable that you have to advertise to stay afloat and help feed your family. I’m not offended by it. Anyone who has ever owned a business clearly understands this. Cheers.

Loved the bag, it reminded me of the bag(s) I had through the 70’s & early 80’s! I’m sure that golf club’ although known as Stoke Poges GC then was used in the British portmanteau horror film Dead of Night, a favourite of mine, where one of the golfers upon losing a bet while playing 18, walks into the lake and drowns himself!

Always been a good club. I've been a member of two Golf Clubs previously which were taken over, it it was made clear that we were no longer members and would have to re-apply for membership and pay a joining fee. I left both of them and moved on one actually went bust and it was bought out by another group and the other one closed.

Great views mate and looks like it is starting to warm up finally.... never had under armour shoes but they look great so might have to look into it, not sure why but they are hard to come by over here in aus. Loved the format on the vids during the week with you and Berny reminded me of how we all used to play growing up as you said. Our greens growing up were hard and bouncy so going high all the time didn't always work. Cheers.

Great looking golf course. I'd forgotten about. I remember both those excellent movies well though. Interestingly it was Daniel Craig's performance in Layer Cake that got him the 007 gig. A lot of hype around Under Armours footwear but do they offer big sizes and wide fittings like Footjoy and Adidas? I've got a big hoof, as do many guys these days, and that's always the first consideration.

Under Armour for me is the go to for base layer clothing, you just can't beat it. Never really thought about shoes and that lacing makes a lot of sense. The Seed ball I have personally tried, but as I don't use Prov1 balls comparing it with my 5 piece ball probably wasn't fair. It was ok however, the same with Cut, Trust and Vice. That venue, I can only imagine how much that will cost for 18 holes 😱. It does look gorgeous though, expect a sub handicap round is probably not on the cards. Good show today

Sunday carry bags are so bad for your posture, never thought they would make a come back. I carry all the time, use a Ping Hoofer lite carry bag, only weighs 2kg, and includes a double strap, so much better for your back and posture. My Pal had his hips replaced, and the doctor blamed the one strap bag for the damage to his original hip, he had used one for 40 years

Understand your comment about the previous format in Ireland however the normal golfer would not play such a fantastic links course with that format. At your home course as a different challenge, most definitely. Paying to play with that course with that format, most definitely not. Good to see the sunday morning show back 👍

How do golf shoes change your putting and chipping and pitching where most golfers save their shots? Don’t think a new Laciing system works for that?

That is a good question, I will for sure ask the question, however stability and freedom to swing is always a good point. From my experience its is a combination of technical and mental strength that generally hinders most golfers in the short game

I have bought a pair of these shoes. They are different and they are better. Loved the course blog. No issues with that. What I always think is sad when a super rich family buys something and keeps it for their super rich mates. If that’s what they will do. I’ve seen the Ambani apartment block in Mumbai. A floor for each family memener. Three floors for their cars. Mad. They own the Mumbai ipl team.

I know you have to do this advertisement work but it just leaves me feeling cold to be honest mate. There is no magic club or magic ball or magic pair of shoes that are going to improve us. Just hours having heaps of fun playing this crazy game haha
