When you said "they have a value beyond what you can see or beyond what you can experience playing them" that was huge. But if I can go back to the core question of "why do this?", as a gameboy homebrew dev I've always found it a fun learning experience. I do it for myself. I'd rather make a bad/experimental game on cool hardware than to make something that gets swallowed up with all the other indie PC games.
@lewis4654 Жыл бұрын
completley agree with the education part, cant say iv created anything as bold as the homebrew games shown, i havent even made any personal project games at all. but the learning experience of how a console works seems like one of the first reasons that came to mind when thinking about it. its easy to take things for what they are but understanding how they work is more important.

I was playing the talos principle again, giving it another try, and I remember one of the audio logs saying something I found kind of profound about, paraphrasing here, how we are hardwired in our DNA to solve problems and not just out of necessity but we do it for fun too. I think thats the appeal of modding hardware and doing emulation because you are discovering new utility outside of the intended purpose of the device and that in and of itself is rewarding and fun.

I modded my Wii later on and it was my gateway to classic games on my CRT thanks to most third party emulators having 240p support. Still is the simplest way to get a pretty capable system plugged into a CRT for 2D games. Back when you could actually give Nintendo money for VC games, they supported 240p too. Add in Gamecube support and the Wii remains an amazing entry point into retro gaming.

That is, what has fascinated me on the Wii, the possibilities of the hombrew software. The first time i tried it out, i actually wanted to try some Game-Cube games, that i had on my hard drive, but i was so fascinated with the homebrew (-channel) and the capabilities of the console, that i completly forgot about the Game-Cube games. There was some kind of a super hero game, where you are like some kind of Super Man fighting enemies, that spawn randomly in a city between skyscrapers. There was nothing more to do, you have no timer, only a score counter (for the defeated enemies) and you could fly around and goof around and it was actually boring. But something about it fascinated me, it has something unique to it. The other thing, that i found very interesting, was Quake on the Wii, it is still kind of crazy to me (in consideration of the wii's hardware, it technically should work flawless, but still), but there it was, Quake on the Wii, as crazy as it sounds to me... I think i should buy a Wii again, just for that (and some other things, i would like to try out) 😂 Now i get the Urge to revive my modded 2DS to look into the homebrew channel again (and to install quake and quake ii) 😂 Thank you for that video, it brings back some nice memories. 👍

Modding a Wii for the first time must be how it felt to gain eyes on the inside. Suddenly every self-proclaimed truth of the world becomes irrelevant and infantile.

Whew, got all philosophical towards the end! I really did enjoy the little tangent - it made the video a lot more memorable :D

I have a modded Wii (as well as Wii U), and a Wii Guitar Hero controller. I've plenty of experience with Wii U modding and tinkering, but Wii seemed more finicky at the time (probably ~2 years ago now). Anyone have any tips for how to get Guitar Hero 5/World Tour working on a Wii? I have the ROM files and the Wii is modded already.

11:09 Even if it was real you can't really use that 10 TB on the Wii. The sd card must be formated to FAT32 which only supports up to 32 GB There is a way to get it formated to FAT32 with 10 TB memory. You can use a tool (if using Windows) and then delete the 32 GB partition. It won't get recognised by the Wii though. Without deleting the partition it works fine with 32 GB
@KopperNeoman Жыл бұрын
Wrong. FAT32 supports up to 2 TB. Some format utilities refuse to format anything larger than 32 GB as FAT32, but the filesystem itself supports up to 2 TB.

hello. I use a 256GB micro SD for Wii and they work perfectly. They have to be class 10. I have the Toshiba brand. They are expensive but worth it. I have a 512GB micro SD and that has given me problems in emulation. the games don't run smoothly
@NightVision40211 ай бұрын
@@0arsoluto0arsoluto70 An SD card with more than 32 GB doesn't get recognized by the Wii. You probably formatted it to FAT32 and it automatically only uses 32 GB. The rest is just unnecessary.

@@KopperNeoman I'm a bit late but just saw this. Yes, you're right. But the Wii still only supports FAT32 formatted SD cards with 32 GB assigned. I tried using a 64 GB SD card formatted to FAT32 with the full 64 GB but it didn't work. When I made a partition with only 32 GB assigned it worked fine

For Xiaxis, yeah, there's no movement/running away, you are expected to kill everything before it reaches you in the center of play. There are upgrades to the weapons that you can purchase with credits earned from killing monsters, press home then + after killing a few to switch through settings to the shop, where you can swap the pair of weapons for others, buy a radar or upgrades to the energy reactor that powers all the weapons. The laser in particular shoots through enemies, but the color of the laser chosen will affect enemies based on their color, so a blue laser will damage a blue enemy differently than a yellow one. This gives some bit of strategy to choosing a pair of weapons and upgrading their fire rate, efficiency, the overall charge rate of the reactor and picking weapons that compliment each other, the homing rockets being good at difficult to hit single enemies, while the lasers or charge weapons good at taking out groups. The procedural generation is just the terrain being created from scratch with each level, the height of which grows in later stages, so doesn't show at all on the first stage, and eventually is a problem to see monsters as they are hidden behind hills or in valleys.
