The song for Hawaiʻi is actually a now famous medley of two songs: “Somewhere over the Rainbow” and “What a Wonderful World” recorded by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole from 1988. The original ”Somewhere over the Rainbow” is from the 1939 classic film ‘The Wizard of Oz” 20 years before Iz was born. According to Wikipedia, The medley has topped the World Digital Songs charts a record 358 times/weeks (over 7 times more frequently than the 2nd place song Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ at 50 weeks), and has only failed to rank somewhere in the chart only once since it’s inception.

@@jariemonah That is the problem with this video. There is no context to any of it. I get that they used a Jackson 5 song for Indiana because the Jacksons are from Gary, and a Stevie Wonder song for Michigan because he's from there but a lot of people do not get the connection. A lot of people think Elvis is from Memphis, but he's from Tupelo, Mississippi. Professionally I am an editor with 20 years experience in broadcasting. Context is everything. That's why this doesn't make sense.

I've seen many similar videos, good on you for picking the best one. I watched it recently and binge-watched his channel. Some people who use similar formats reuse a lot of tropes and identical characters. This video did good to differentiate.

Not quite, some states come off well. Country Roads for West Virginia, Freebird for Alabama (agree, should have been Sweet Home Alabama, but at least it's not a diss), Georgia on my Mind for Georgia and Dust in the Wind for Kansas (not a reference to the Dust Bowl days, but a great song by the Kansas band called Kansas). But a lot of the choices were way puzzling.

The song "Over the Rainbow" came out 20 years before Hawai'i was made a state. But, this version of the song is sung by IZ Kamakawiwo'ole, who is definitely Hawaiian.

Love that Texas got two songs. George Strait is a LEGEND in Texas. Pantera are Dallas natives, we love them here.. Selena would’ve been the perfect third song,.. and Mike Jones from Houston to represent the hip hop scene

An odd list. It's hard to tell what the criteria were for picking the songs. With all the songs about California, why YMCA, for example? Some choices I might have made: Arizona by Mark Lindsay California Dreaming by The Mamas and the Papas Back Home Again in Indiana by any number of artists (Red Nichols, maybe) For Louisiana, Mardi Gras in New Orleans by Professor Longhair Massachusetts by The Bee Gees For Tennessee, Rocky Top by The Osborne Brothers

Florida really is the Swanee river as technically it’s our state song. The second Florida one represents the massive Cuban influence in Miami, Orlando it’s more Puerto Rican. The further north you go up the state the more cities disappear and random backwoods reckneck places become common. Basically if you’re not white and speak like them you better keep to the highway and gas up in Gainesville and Tallahassee then make for Atlanta. The last major stop in Florida is Gainesville which is the university town and Tallahassee the state capital but after that you have to gun it to the border because there’s nothing to really look at for 8 hours during the trip. Honestly it’s just the Florida border tourist stop and then nothing but grassland and the occasional farm maybe a business but not much else until you hit Atlanta.

These are the types of comments of why the South gets a bad wrap. I assume you've never spent a great deal of time around North Central Florida. If people really had the mentality of "If you aren't white and speak like them get away from there..." If that were the case, almost half the population there wouldn't be black. I've spent a bit of time down near the Suwannee River and people really get along there and would give the shirt off their back to help you out. I find it incredibly ignorant to stereotype a group of people because of their accent.
