Having vacationed there every summer as a kid, she’s at the Jersey Shore. Hence the houses kind of atop each other, the fish decor on outside of a couple of houses, the gravel or concrete front yards. While the Jersey Shore is certainly IN America, I would be loathe to extrapolate it to being like most of America (because it isn’t). These Brits/Euros would have a lot more credibility if they said the Jersey Shore is like …..x, y and Z. Its like an American goes to Geneva and says all of Europe is a French- influenced city with a big lake, lots of high end watch shops, etc. as if that applies to say Tuscany, or rural Poland. 😂 Plenty of states you can buy alcohol in supermarkets. Again, she’s having a NJ experience and painting with a broad brush.

She said she’s in New Jersey. Many of those homes looked like shore homes (she was probably near the Atlantic Ocean). These homes tend to sacrifice nice yards/gardens for proximity to the ocean. NJ is one of the few states where you cannot buy alcohol in convenience stores or supermarkets. You can only buy it in what we call “liquor stores”. Also, fun fact, NJ is 1 of 2 US states that does not allow you to pump your own gas/petrol. NJ is quite expensive, yes, but salaries are some of the highest in the nation.

In my 55 yrs I have NEVER had a server try to persuade me to either buy more food or a more expensive option. They will automatically tell you about any current "specials" the restaurant has, which are typically a CHEAPER option, but other than that, they've never made unsolicited suggestions or actively tried to upsale me EVER. For her to claim it happened "several" times??? I think she's completely full of shiz for dramatic effect. Which is an awful thing to do. Edit: As a few others have mentioned, I've of course been offered dessert towards the end of a meal or adult beverage or appetizer while waiting or immediately after being seated. I suppose some people might perceive that as "up selling", however, I've only ever viewed it as part of being an attentive/courteous host, simply letting you know it's available if you'd like. No push, pressure or feeling obliged.

12:08 yards are dependent upon: 1. how big the lot is (1/8 acre, 1/4 acre, 1/2 acre, 1 acre, multiple acres, ect...) 2. where on the lot the house was built. 3. if it is part of a multiplex housing unit. 4. if the home owner WANTS to have a bigger back yard, bigger front yard, equal sized front and back yards, ect... 5. if the home owner wants to 'develop' the yard or leave it in a sort of 'natural' state (grass cut but nothing else done with it). some owners want bigger front yards to show off to others, while some want bigger back yards that they can use as a retreat or for entertainment purposes. it just depends on the owner... ect, ect... so don't put any thought into "they don't have a back yard" statement....

Back Yards: The neighborhood that she is walking in is probably the "city" area of a small town, where they don't have much of a back yard, and not truly representative of a suburb. Notice how the houses are all 2 or 3 stories tall. Most American suburbs have homes that are 1 or 2 stories tall, and with a larger foundation - built 'out' not 'up'.

And even though the apartment didn’t have a backyard it did have a rooftop garden/deck that we went on all the time. My backyard is large enough that the people who lived here before us had a pretty large above ground pool on one side and a nice play set on the other with three swings, a slide, and a ladder going up to a playhouse. We kept the play set but not the pool. We didn’t want the liability. There is plenty of space to play in the back. I don’t know of many houses that don’t have a backyard.

I’m 72. I was born and raised in the northeast (New Jersey), but have spent the last 46 years in the south. (Tennessee)There are lots of differences between the way things are done in the north and the south. If you order tea in a restaurant in the south, they will automatically bring you iced tea. You have to specify HOT tea, if that’s what you want. In that case, they bring you a cup with a tea bag, and boiling water. Suburbs in the US have both front, and backyards, with mailboxes at the end of the driveway by the road. In the backyard, some people have pools, some have play gyms or trampolines for their kids, many people have patios or decks out back where they barbecue. If the homeowners like gardening, they grow flowers or vegetables. People either own a lawnmower and mow their own yards, or they hire a lawn service. People who live in rural areas have much more land, and are more spread out. Some own cows, or horses, or sheep.

The US rail system is over 170 years old and built primarily for goods. There is a whole documentary about Amtrack and people moving. There are no bullet trains. Still old fashion diesel and a max speed of 60 MPH. Upselling is what they call it when a server recommends higher priced items to mark-up the bill. A lot of states in the US only pay servers a "Tip Wage", which is $2.31 an hour, so servers have a bit of motivation to get a better tip in those states. It's a common practice, in a lot of regions.

Your out of pocket insurance is far more expensive than what Canada pays. Unless you have union negotiated medical insurance (most do not). Also, medical insurance has a lifetime cap. If you or a dependant suffers a catastrophic illness or accident, your insurance will stop paying after the cap is reached. This does not happen in Canada. Canadians don't lose their homes due to going into debt with medical bills. I'm fortunate to have "Cadillac" union negotiated medical insurance, but that is subject to the whims of management and the union with every contract negotiation. How nice if we had universal health care like Canada, not have to worry about losing our insurance or our homes because of medical bills, and be able to negotiate a higher salary without insurance coverage taking a huge chunk of what management is willing to give.

9:22 - Our trains run about 80 mph outside of cities. They can't really go faster because the tracks were built 100+ years ago. The only place where the tracks have been rebuilt is along the eastern seaboard, so they have some trains over there that can go 120 - 150 mph. Also, the passenger trains in the US share the same tracks as the freight trains.

Coffee is made from a large machine and put into a large thermos dispenser. You can choose freshly brewed coffee, decaf, breakfast blend, pumpkin spice, French vanilla, columbian, dark roast. Then you can add, skim milk, 1 or 2% milk, whole milk, half and half, light cream, french vanilla creamer, hazelnut and they have a can of whipped cream for hot chocolate. The coffee flavors change with the season. This is at 7/11 quik check or wawa's

Private health care here is not much better than public health. It took my wife 11 1/2 months to see a neurologist. We pay $525 per month for health insurance but it only covers 89% of the bill. She was in the hospital for 7 days and between the doctor bills, hospital bill, therapist bill and anesthesiologist bill it came to a total of $147,000. Our portion of the bills totals is almost $39,000. It's miserable. People file for bankruptcy most often due to medical bills. It sucks.

Creamers are bomb! Lots of us use them instead of milk in our coffee. And they come in soooo many flavors. Caramel, hazelnut, vanilla, mocha, coconut creme, toffee, I could go on. Also, I live in that state of Texas and we mostly have fenced in backyards.

Most supermarkets in the areas I’ve lived in and where I currently live, you can buy lower percentage of alcohols like wine, beer, seltzer, ciders, hard sodas, and the like in them but to get stronger stuff like whiskey, bourbon, Mead, and other liquors you do generally have to go to a specific shop

It looks like an older suburban neighborhood, so the mailboxes will be by the front door. More rural places, or newer suburbs, will have the mailbox at the street. Apartments have a central mailbox group.

IN MY VIEW We have many options how to receive our mail depending on where you live. Post Office knows better than anyone. Mailboxes in front of your home. Mailboxes all in one location inside foyer of your apartment building. Apartment individual mail boxes all in one location. You (walk or) drive to it. Mailbox next to your front door. Mailboxes at the end of a long driveway. You can pay the Post Office for a 'keyed' mail box located inside the Post Office Building. You pay for this service. You can ask the Post Office to hold your mail, while you are on vacation (holiday) or suspicion of unsafe mail activity. Pick it up later.

In the U.S.A., at many gas stations and convenience stores, the staff brews the coffee in a large machine and then it goes into a large metal dispenser with a handle on the bottom. You put your cup under the handle and pull it, and the coffee comes out. Then you add your creamer or sugar or whatever you want. You fix it the way you like it, and then pay for it at the cash register. Also, as far as alcohol sales are concerned, many states (and many counties) are different with their own alcohol laws. Here in New York, you can buy beer in a grocery store, a convenience store, and a beverage center. But you can only buy wine and liquor in a liquor store.

Long distance travel via public transportation. Our long distance travel with public transportation is called airlines. We don't use trains for that. There are a few AMTRAK train lines that have routes that take mostly scenic routes, but if you really want a scenic trip, you drive. You take airplanes when you wanna get somewhere quick. You can get across the entire country in about 3 hours on a plane. It'd take you a good 3 to 4 days to drive across the country.

Servers will tell you what are the special meals of the day. But they dont push you to buy expensive food. Plus, you can go online before you go out, and look at the menu and see the prices. Plus lots of restaurants have complimentary sample of the high end food. But that doesn't mean you have to buy a whole dinner. Check the menu before you go.

As an American watching these videos it is crazy to me the things you guys don't have and how tiny everything is in the UK!! We have drive-thru for everything, even pharmacy & liquor stores!! It's baffling that your banks and fast food places don't have drive thru!! Coffee here is brewed in a coffee maker like it is in a restaurant and has a much better taste than granulated coffee. We have so many flavors of creamers & syrups that people put in their coffee. Some do half & half or milk, I use sugar. Creamer is kinda like a milk substance but it isn't milk and is a little thicker. We don't have kettles here for tea. We boil our water in the microwave or teapot on the stove. Our tea is in tea bags and much larger than your little cone teas. We have lots of flavored tea as well. The town I live in does not sell alcohol in the gas stations. You have to go to liquor store or grocery store. Liquor store has more variety where grocers has beer. There are some towns here in Illinois that are called "dry towns" cuz they don't sell alcohol at all. You have to go to a bar that is outskirts of town or another town to get any. She was walking around in a pretty well-to-do neighborhood. There are lots of slummy areas that look rundown and unkept. Depends on what you can afford and what type of neighborhood you are in. I would hate to have to wait 5-6 months for an appointment for such an important issue like with your eye!! We have walk-in clinics that will see you the same day and prescribe medications or referrals to doctors that you can see within a few weeks! We have lots of medical places here, it's the insurance companies that suck!!

To answer what creamer is: it's milk or milk substitute that is often flavored to add a nice flavor to your coffee. Hazelnut, vanilla, etc is common in dairy and non-dairy creamer.

Some places make coffee in a large dispenser with a pump on top. You pay for the cup and go get whatever coffee/hot coca/etc... you want. In the US all trains use the same tracks. It doesn't matter if it's mail, cargo, people, and most of the tracks are old. So even if they get a new fancy train it still has to go on old ass tracks. Also If I'm not mistaken all trains have to give way for mail trains which can cause weird delays. The date is lowest number to highest a week has 7 days, a month has 28-31 and year is 4 digits

I’m not sure what she means by alcohol in supermarkets. Its true any establishment needs a license to sell it. But pretty much most stores will sell alcohol. Any Walmart, Target or big grocery store like Kroger will sell it. CVS also sells alcohol. Maybe she means smaller regional family owned stores?

It really really depends on location. In my State there are dry counties where no alcohol can be sold, but some dry counties permit a city in the county grocery stores to sell beer and wine, but grocery stores outside the city can not. All hard liquor has be sold through the state through special stores called Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC Stores) run by the state in counties that allow them.
