The Pentagon also has about twice as many bathrooms as you would expect for that size building, because when it was being built (finished in 1943) Virginia law required segregated white and "colored" bathrooms.
@daniel_sc1024
@daniel_sc1024 Ай бұрын
@@ronansan When Roosevelt visited the building before it's dedication he ordered the "whites only" signs removed. When the governor of Virginia objected, Roosevelt responded that the building was a federal building, under federal jurisdiction, and its military and civilian employees would comply with federal policy. As a result, the Pentagon was the only building in Virginia that didn't enforce racial segregation laws.

Some more fun facts: When originally built, it did not have any elevators. The general overseeing it did not want to see fat generals using elevators; everyone would have to use the stairs. When originally designed, it was expected that after the war the DoD would be reduced to its pre-war size, they wouldn't need such a large office building anymore, and it would be converted to records storage. Hence, it has rather low ceilings for its size.

The planets were named after Greek and Roman gods, which were religious to the Greeks and Romans...Mercury was the god of travelers and thieves, Venus was the goddess of love, Mars was the god of war, Jupiter was the king of the gods, aka Zeus, Saturn was the god of agriculture, Uranus was the god of the sky, Neptune was the god of the sea, Pluto was the god of the underworld, aka Hades to the Greeks. Technically, Earth was known as Gaia, the mother of Zeus and the daughter of Uranus. The Greeks and Romans knew there was something in the sky and assumed they were the god watching down on us and assigned the different colored dots in the sky their names, not knowing they were planets in orbit around the sun. Also the Sun was called Apollo, the god of light and the moon was called Selene, the goddess of the moon. Most ancient cultures had pantheons of gods representing different aspects of life, like Thor was the god of thunder and lightning and Loki the god of mischief, which the American Indians god of mischief was Coyote and they had pantheons, too.

Luckily at teaching hospitals they are more focused and aware of the latest medical science versus long term practicing doctors who may find it more difficult to keep up with the latest information or science. And the door to Club 33 is not secret. It's right on the street in the New Orleans area right next to Pirates of the Caribbean, at least at Disneyland. The number 33 is prominently displayed. Also next door is the Blue Bayou restaurant. It's not hard at all to uncover the button and press. The hard part is having the reservation to get any further. While discussing Van Buren he perpetuates another common false truth. George Washington was not the first president. John Hanson was the first president. It's forgotten that the US had a structure prior to the Constitution. It was the Articles of Confederation. John Hanson was the first president under that document which was the guide to federal government for the first 10 years of the United States.

#8 is incorrect: the first US president born a US citizen was John Tyler. Tyler was born in 1790; the first one born after the adoption and ratification of the US Constitution (1789), which established the US as a sovereign nation. Tyler's nine predecessors in office (Washington thru WH Harrison) were born on what is now US soil, but, because they were British colonies at the time, they were British subjects at birth (though they were all given posthumous retroactive US citizenship by an Act of Congress in 1976)

The Delaration of Independence established us as a sovereign nation, the Treaty of Paris of 1783 led to Great Britian recognizing it as such. The US Constitituion just esblished a new form of government we were still a sovereign nation during the Articles of Confederation. Van Buren was born in 1782 so you could make the argument we weren't a country yet since the British didn't recognize our independence yet so it would still be John Tyler.

The otter thing is cute but the reason they do it is they are related to honey badger and they are op,their intelligence rivals children thry hold hands cause the river flow will carry them off if asleep holding hands means if that happens 2 can find there way back

These are not myths, because they are true. They should be labeled as “misconceptions”.

Coke started out as a medicinal product. I have little cousins that are twins but one was born the day before the other so they have separate birthdays.

You can’t be serious. You actually believed that the planet Pluto was named after a Disney character? And I thought education was bad in the US. Jeez!

No, was pointing out that there is a character named Pluto. Not that it was what helped name a planet

Pluto is the Roman name for the god the Greeks called Hades. Pluto, the planet, has been downgraded to a Dwarf Planet. That means that it doesn't have the mass (gravity) to clear it's neighborhood of debris. Our planet's actual name is Terra.

I always thought the Pentagon was built as it was because of the 5 branches of our military (now 6 btw). They were army, navy, airforce, marines, and coast guard (now spaceforce too). But I was wrong. The US airforce was created in 1947 and the building was built in 1943. The piece of land they had to work with was bordered by 5 highways. So they built it to fit the land. It has 6 zip codes and it one of the most secure building in the US.

I live right near it - I once asked my phone where the closest Starbucks was and it tried to direct me to the one inside the Pentagon 😅 Also, the highways around there are extremely confusing. Everyone ends up in the Pentagon parking lot by accident at some point. There is always a bored twenty-something with fatigues and an AK who knows you're only there by mistake but has to ask you anyways.
