"Christmas time is here/ Happiness & cheer/ Fun for all that children call/ Their favorite time of year./ Snowflakes in the air/Carols everywhere/ Olden times and ancient rhymes / Of love & dreams to share." I'm old enough to remember the debut of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" on network TV. Also, Vince Guaraldi was a jazz composer, so you can kind of expect a bit of minor-key composition in his Christmas music.

The composer for "The Charlie Brown Christmas Soundtrack" was jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi, who performed the instrumentation with the Vince Guaraldi Trio. Great music. Most famous and most popular is probably the "Charlie Brown Christmas Dance", an instrumental. Other great instrumentals from this album: "Christmas is Coming" and "Skating".

You should do a reaction listening to these Christmas songs. It would be fun to watch. I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas is one of my favorites. It was actually a campaign to raise money for a zoo to purchase a Hippo. The song worked and there were donations from families due to the pleas from kids to help her get one for Christmas. The zoo got their hippo and we all got a catchy Christmas tune. Also, I am in agreement with the rest of the comments that you should listen to Grandma Got Runover By a Reindeer. It was proof that Santa really existed. It's a lot of fun. You should break it out at your family's Christmas gathering to have a good laugh.

The Hippo song was sung by a child star who moved to Oklahoma City and with the local Zoo got this song which made the funds and a baby hippo available to the Zoo. The hippo Matilda lived for about 50 years and when she passed they were able to use the proceeds to acquire a pygmy hippo in 2017

"I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause" is a song from the 1950s (1952), the decade I was born. The same decade brought us the Christmas classics of "All I Want for Christmas is My Two-Front Teeth" (technically 1948) and "Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer" (again, technically 1949). There are a number of iterations of it, it being covered by a lot of famous singers. It starts out: "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Clause Underneath the mistletoe last night They didn't see me creep Down the stairs to have a peep She thought that I was tucked up In my bedroom, fast asleep" Most of these songs Laurence mentions are what are called 'novelty songs'; they aren't meant as serious seasonal offerings, just songs meant to entertain, including the two I mentioned previously. (The Charlie Brown song is actually serious and quite pleasant.) That said, I specifically hate the "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" song. When you go to KZbin to hear the other songs mentioned in this list, add these two novelty songs written and performed by Weird Al Yankovic: "Christmas at Ground Zero" and "The Night Santa Went Crazy". Merry Christmas!🎄 OH! One more 1950s song (1953): "Santa Baby" sung by the incredibly sexy (and originator of the role of Cat Woman) Eartha Kitt. More recently it was covered by Ariana Grande (2013) and Miley Cyrus (2018).

[Edited song title] Saddest Christmas song ever for me is "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas." It's a song from the movie called Meet Me In St. Louis starring Judy Garland (who played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz). It's weird because the lyrics are joyful and optimistic , but the melody, like the scene in the film, is very sad. My favorites tend to be kind of low key anyway: *O Holy Night *Glory, Glory (Beethoven) + Ode To Joy, the orchestral section played in "Die Hard" *Silver Bells *Do You Hear What I Hear? *It's Beginning To Look Like Christmas (Nat King Cole) *There's Always Tomorrow from the Rudolph TRnR tv show *God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen The most fun is the "Snow & Heat Miser" song(s) from a Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer animated TV short. It beats The Grinch Song, though that's awesome, too. haha

@@pollywollydoodle831 Really? I wonder what the original lyrics were? I mean, these lyrics are Great. Even the music. Do They Know It’s Christmas is very popular here. Do you know what it’s about? It was a charity song to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. It’s the song that lead up to the USA’s charity song, We Are The World, and then Live Aid, the mega charity concert performed in London and Philadelphia on the same day. Do They Know It’s Christmas included American band, Kool & The Gang in the lineup. When that song was released, my local record shop played it non-stop on a loop for days.

Can’t say I’ve ever actually heard “Dominic the Donkey”. It has a very familiar melody but the song itself is new to me. I think it’s one of those songs that was popular way back when and faded out. The grandma got run over by a reindeer song was referenced recently with the new mortal kombat fatality with a version of Krampus driving Santa’s sleigh with undead reindeer running it and the opponent losing their head to the sleigh blades. Very cute song. ~ I am 70 & have never heard the donkey song. ~ Definitely check out the fun & silly Christmas song, Grandma got run over by a reindeer. Very fun. The Chipmunk song is also adorable & kids especially love it. Listen to these songs. You will be smiling. I promise. Also, many country artists have original Christmas songs, as do other genres too. Kenny Logins has a lot of songs you might've heard for movies. "Highway to the danger zone" for the Top Gun movie and "Footloose" for the movie of the same name come to mind right away.

That is actually something it has in common with the Chipmunk song. People forget David Seville was Ross Bagdasarian's stage name and he first used it for the original version of The Witchdoctor. While the Chipmunk song was the origin of Alvin Simon and Theodore which also became so popular an animated version was made later on. I hope you got to listen to every one of these songs, I know they are all on youtube.

The "Chipmumk Song" is a christmas song, and it introduced the chipmunks to the world back in 1958, by Ross Bagdasarian. I've listened to at least 2 different chipmunk christmas albums (I think they were released in 1965. I've seen that there are more.) in which they sing many of the various christmas songs. I'll admit I only heard of "I what a Hippopotamus ..." and "Dominick the Donkey" about 15 years ago. They're both cute though.

When i was 5 i was terrorized by a christmas song on the radio. The Santa stalker song. Its title is "Santa Claus is coming to town" . Every time i heard the words "He knows when you are sleeping. He knows when youre awake" i could always imagine him looking in my bedroom window. Gave me a chill every time i heard that.

Did Lawrence seriously say that the song from Charlie Brown's Christmas has no lyrics? He has to be deaf, that's the only excuse for saying that rubbish. He must have gotten Linus & Lucy which is a very complicated classical piece that does have no lyrics. But the song he played a couple seconds of is "Christmas Time is Here" and is sung over most of the feature. It's fully of lyrics "Christmas time is here, happiness and cheer, etc" I can't remember all the lyrics to it, but it has A LOT of them. His least favorites I have NEVER heard of except of course "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" that song is one of the best, along with the sequel "Grandpa's Gonna Sue the Pants off of Santa"

Yeah .. I was surprised by that too .. I think he has that song mixed up with the "piano" symphony by Linus ...

Charlie Brown was very popular as a comic from 1959 and as a tv cartoon from 1965. The movie A Charlie Brown Christmas from 1965 was so popular it still comes on tv today. But honestly it's popularity has gone way down. The height of it's popularity lasted into the 1990's but has since fizzled out for those younger generations that came after. Ok hitting on some really fun songs here... Gramma got run over by a reindeer and the chipmunk song... those are classic Christmas songs now....lol, although I can understand someone not from here being confused. Yes, those are played frequently all Christmas, in fact most of the older generation will go out of our way to make sure we don't miss them each year. There are very few Christmas songs that I won't listen to, as long as I don't have to listen before Thanksgiving, that's when they annoy me... you know the day after Halloween is a lot early for me. I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season, love and light.

"That's what I Want for Christmas?" Dennis Crosby? If so, you're the first person I've ever heard mention that song. Cool! If it's a different version (there are a lot of Christmas songs with the same title as other Christmas songs), Cool, anyway!

I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas, which is a favorite, along with Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer. Charlie Brown Christmas is an every year watch along with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and Santa Claus is Coming To Town. It's not Christmas without watching those 4 tv specials. Christmas Shoes is amazingly sad, but i love it. They made a movie out of it, and i love it as well. Box of tissues a must for song and movie. Oh, I forgot The Chipmunks. I love them as well.

Omg most of these are such classics here, our grandparents and sometimes great grandparents listened to them and as kids we performed a lot of them at our school Christmas concerts. I saw mommy kissing Santa clause, I want a hippopotamus for Christmas, the chipmunk Christmas song, and the whole Charlie Brown Christmas Album are all on the same level as frosty the snowman and Rudolph the red nose reindeer. Felix Navidad and grandma got ran over by a reindeer come close to that but feel a little less classic and beloved then the others

I'm 67 and have lived in the US all my life. I have never heard either the Hippopotamus or Donkey song. I would highly recommend A Charlie Brown Christmas if you've never seen it. It's quite a lovely story. The "sad" music will make sense in context. It was something we looked forward to every year when I was a kid.

Brand new subscriber here binge watching through a lot of your videos and loving that you are reacting to so many Christmas theme videos!! Feliz Navidad is just so.....unique I guess as a Christmas song because it dares you to somehow not want to dance to the dang thing. Says a lot that the lyrics basically say nothing much and are just repeated but it's still so amazing. One of my absolute faves to get in the mood. Would say I don't think there is any surprise about the ones Lawrence doesn't like because they are all basically Christmas songs for kids right? And most of them sung from a kids perspective. And yeah a few of them have rather grating voices singing them but I guess that was the point? I don't choose to listen to them much, but the idea of having these songs that have crazy lyrics only a child could think up, sung in an awful voice because children usually can't sing particularly well, adds such a unique charm to them. The fact they and others exist for Christmas here is almost really touching to me....its what the holidays are all about!

I love all these songs, but for me “Merry Christmas From the Family” is the quintessential Christmas song. It starts with “Mom got drunk and Dad got drunk at our Christmas party” It was written by Robert Earl Keen but like Jill Sobule’s cover better It reminds me of my family Christmases
