You missed the end credits where they showed all of the different characters played by Eddie and Arsenio! There are a lot of them! That was Eddie playing the singer for the band “Sexual Chocolate” and Arsenio was the preacher and the guy who put the chicken leg in the offering plate among many others that I didn’t notice you pick up on. Even the old white Jewish man in the barbershop was Eddie! 😂😂😂 For another great movie where Eddie plays multiple characters you should check out “The Nutty Professor”. You need to watch more of his movies from the ‘80s and 90’s he was essentially a comedian who became huge in stand up and then went on to act with great success. After that watch Dreamgirls the part he won his Oscar for, it was an extremely different direction for him and he was outstanding imo
@mildredpierce4506

Eddie Murphy was a standup comic first. Then he became a sketch actor on Saturday night live. From there he went into acting in movies. His first movie was 48 hours with Nick Nolte. Even after his movie success, he still did a few notable standup routines. One of them being Raw. The other one was called delirious in which she wore red leather. In the movie Beverly Hills cop, there is a scene when he’s in Beverly Hills and two guys are walking towards him wearing leather and he starts laughing. It wasn’t scripted because he was not aware that they would be wearing the type of leather suit he wore in his standup routine delirious.

You really should watch it again to figure out which extra characters Eddie and Arsinio played. Yes that was Cuba Gooding Jr. John Amos was the owner of McDowells and Lisa's dad. John Amos had his own tv series called Good Times, as well as being in other movies. James Earl Jones is the King. He was also the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars movies. He is a trained Shakespearean actor. He has been in many movies. There is no mistaking his voice. Arsenio, of course, had his own talk show. Eddie has a number of movies under his belt that you might enjoy: Trading Places, Dr. Doolittle, Beverly Hills Cop (1,2 & 3), Harlem Nights, The Nutty Professor ( in which he played several family members) Daddy Day Care, Norbit, Dream Girls ( he sings in this one)....and others. Check out his 1987 televised Comedy Show "Raw". He produced some of his movies. Also has a record called "Party Al! The Time ( video, also includes Rick James) Eddie has had an extensive career going way back to the start of Saturday Night Live. (2nd yr. I think)

This is by far, my favorite Eddie Murphy movie. In fact, it's among my favorites movies of all time. Eddie Murphy was a regular member of the Saturday Night Live (SNL) cast a long time ago, when SNL was still funny. Many of the cast members created their own weekly characters and wrote the scripts for the skits (short scenes) their characters would perform in, so Eddie had gained a lot of experience writing by the time he wrote this story. Some of his more memorable (and hilarious) SNL characters were Mr. Robinson, Buckwheat, Gumby and Mr. White. There were other characters he created but I can't think of them right now. Arsenio Hall was the perfect comedian to play Semmi (and Reverend Brown, and Morris the barber😆). Louie Anderson played the perfect, clueless, fast-food, employee. The entire movie from cast to comedy is nothing short of genius.😄 Peace Kabir🕊

This movie offers a small sequel to Trading Places with Jamie Lee Curtis and Dan Ackroyd; a fine movie that we usually watch around New Years. Beverly Hills Cop is my favorite but Coming To America highlights the real skills of Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. The barbershop crew is an excellent model for the appropriate use of whiteface/blackface in film, imo. I hated that you skipped the Paula Abdul choreographed dance at the beginning but wasnt that amazing! Great reaction. Please do more classic Eddie. Big ol thumbs up and have a great weekend!

Yeah, that was Cuba Gooding, Jr. I never noticed it before. Fun fact here - John Amos was actually a McDonald's manager before he became a big star. Even appeared in a commercial for McDonald's, too. He was also a professional football player before he broke into show business - he played for several teams, & the last was the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs' manager, Hank Stram, read a poem Amos had written, & told him to quit football & pursue a career as a writer. He wrote for a couple of tv series, then switched to acting.

I really love this movie, but unfortunately the story was plagiarized. Not by Eddie, but by the production company. Art Buchwald actually wrote it and called it “King for a Day” and tried to sell it to all the major studios. They all turned it down, but Paramount literally wrote as much of it down as they could. Art sued them after the movie was released and was given a huge chunk of what the movie made. Sad since the movie is so amazing. But despite its origins, Eddie and Arsenio did a great job portraying multiple characters throughout the movie.

[Edited to include info on settlement] I don't know if anyone else posted this, but Eddie Murphy wasn't the only writer. A comedian and writer named Art Buchwald wrote an original script for this exact story, which Paramount Pictures stole and let Murphy (re)write a script they turned into Coming To America. Buchwald took them all to court and won. I don't know the particulars about the settlement. Note: A couple articles state that, while Buchwald technically won the lawsuit, the lawyers got All the money. We were warned by Shakespeare about these lawyers. It's so interesting and so Very American/Hollywood that the most amazing two mythologies about Africa-Black American interactions were written by Jewish people: Stan Lee wrote Black Panther and, of course, Art Buchwald wrote Coming To America. And they made Wakanda and Zamunda incredible places we all would love to visit, and maybe even live. Though I'm a Shire, Naboo, or Cloud City kinda person myself. I mean, Alderaan would've been great, but...

Murphy plays at least two of the barbers, the singer at the church and maybe more. i never realized the kid at the barber shop was Cuba Gooding jr.

Ok (clap! clap!) listen up: The evidence is clear - "Coming To America" & "Life" are Eddie Murphy's two (Best) movies!......You just seen the greatness of "Coming To America", but there's a good chance that many of you have never seen "Life", a movie starring both Eddie Murphy AND Martin Lawrence. "Life" is a movie by these two top comedian/actors that everyone predicts WRONGLY in terms of (what type of movie it's gonna be. However, everyone that sees it comes out "much more" fulfilled & entertained than what they first predicted!......Kabir, "Life" is the other Eddie Murphy movie that you should "consider" - without a doubt!.........Good reaction!

I've been in like five churches where the preacher talks like that. Radio DJs have a style of speaking that's called "puking" in the business, and I guess preachers have their own version of that.
